2007 Porsche 997.1 Turbo - One Take

- The Porsche 997 Turbo can now be had for just under half it's original $160,000 MSRP, and at that price, it's a screaming deal. Much prettier and with a better interior than the "Value Turbo" 996 that came before it, the Mezger-engined GT coupe takes well to modifications and provides a sporty and comfortable place to spend your time. This one's been modified a bit with a Speedtech exhaust and, more importantly, the DSC Sport Controller, which turns a passive adaptive suspension system into an active one.

You can tell that dude rips those roads himself too. He was calm as can be while Matt was ripping up that road. Great car
"put on by my previous owner" The man is one with the car. Like an enthusiast monk..
Matt - had a blast making the video, thanks again. Glad to see so much excitement over the video!
Lol these comments though...
Welcome to CZcams ;)
Sweet car, what do you do for work Lee?
Great car! The only issue I have with mine is that it's appreciated quite a bit in the past year (partly because the cdn $ has lost value) and now I'm a little more cautious with it. Still - it's a blast to drive.
Do you still have it? Is this the one with the Mezger engine?
One of the best Porsche's they've made. The 997 was a great size, and it really kinda saved the 911's reputation as a supremely good car. The turbo in particular just looks great with the massive side intakes for the intercoolers and the wing that isn't over the top. It's just such an awesome machine. 40-60 in 1 second in 2nd gear.
So fuck the car, we're only here to judge the owner right?
50% of the comments in these smoking tire threads. Lots of losers who drive their parents cars shitting on people because they are insecure.
Absolutely right. I had to stop reading the comments for the one-take yesterday
wade18 Those comments were completely unwarranted. I was baffled!
I really hate how judgmental the internet is everyone acts like they're perfect will half of these people I'd love to see them in real life with the comments they make. nitpicking people's crinkled shirts how old they are how fat they are how lacking in confidence their voice sounds. sometimes I click on their name and then find they have videos and they're way more Awkward and ugly than the person they are making fun of. so I've come to realize these people that make these comments whether they realize it or not are messed up mentally and taking it out on others. if you're happy with yourself you wouldn't be making comments like that. we're here for the cars.
Right. BTW 1:14 for the "these sunglasses will hide my wonky eye." You're all welcome!
I work at a mechanic shop and watch these at lunch everyday. Keep up the good work!
Oh Matt and his turning radius. Question: Matt, what is the absolute best thing about the 911 R, Answer: Turning radius lol
I stand by that statement!
"The new Carrera S feels faster than this" Because the car was going WOT uphill. 4:32 - 4:55
"Look at this fucking thing go, Jesus" Because the car is going WOT downhill. 10:52 - 10:58
I spy SuBros STi in the background! Can't wait to see that, also mad Porsche. Love this shape
I love this series so much...
One of my favorite cars and Porsches ever made. Great video!
I would die and go to heaven if we had a single road like that anywhere near Orlando
then you wouldn't be able to drive on it
I'm in Orlando too & I've always thought this...I'm sure there are roads with elevation changes further up the state...Ocala is the closest I've seen.
Yeah you pretty much have to go to North FL like Tallahassee area to start getting some roads that actually have corners. I've heard Ocala isn't bad though, never took a trip up there when I had my Mustang. Maybe when I get another one I'll have to go for a ride up
Go to hell
I just moved here from GA. There are some crazy roads in the mountains of North GA but there seem to be a few small stretches here and there down here. I4 is a PITA currently. So many potholes!!
Lol Matt's hesitancy when the guys asked about his Focus RS!
12:19 that silence then whispers ".........fuck"
"it's a 3inch exhaust all the way back" funny
All the way back, lol.
All the way back half a metre haha
Lmao this thread is hilarious. Shit kinda broke it huh.
because rear engine?
Robbspeed3 yeah
"420 out of the box" - Matt Farrah
dream car! looks so good in that color and proportions are just bang on... very nice upgrades dig it!
Love Porsche. I had a 1986 928 S4 and when I started it in the morning I'd wake up the neighborhood. At the time it was really fast, loved opening up this car on the highway and it really purred at over 180 mph. Loved that car, my all time favorite. This car would definitely be parked right beside it.
Purred at over 180 mph...yeah, right! Maybe with a GE J-85 jet engine bolted to the roof! First of all, the S4 wasn't introduced until 1987, and the 1986 S topped out at approximately 155. So, Porsche wannabe owner, get your facts straight and keep dreaming, Dork. You probably own a Nissan Versa, or a used Chevette.
Nice change of wheels! The car looks much better on the video than on the photo thumbnail.
Another great video. You have amazing driving roads in America. Some good driving roads in the UK but not as smooth as yours! Love the 997 turbo. One day for me, maybe :) Great to see the owner chose a manual box (stick shift) rather than tip tronnic :(
The exhaust note on this turbo sounds reallly nice🙂
This is the best of the water cooled turbos in my opinion. 997 looks great and is not too large like the 991 and it is the last turbo to use the Mezger engine. Perfect combination.
Dude the exhaust sounds so goooood
997.1 turbo is one of my dream cars.
Great car, great mods, love the exhaust ..
Not a Porsche guy, but wow this thing is fast and capable. Pretty much perfection on the road, except for subjective things [IMHO, the looks and sound are not to my taste]. Great vid Matt, keep em coming!
I agree many porsches sound like shit
Depends on personal taste... you can change the sound of any car with different exhaust. Stock they are very muted, with the wrong exhaust they sound like a Subaru... However I have heard ones that will make the hairs on your arms stand up when the throttle is blipped.... But then again if you don't like the sound of a flat 6 then nothing will fix that.
Great job as always Matt. Love these videos, so much better than the typical BS reviews on CZcams.
"I like ur rs..." - akward silence
Comments like these tells everyone about your social inadequacies
I doubt Matt wanted to launch into the whole, "ahhhh, I sold it," schpiel while canyon carving in a Turbo Porsche.
@@DouEditz responses like that show everyone how much of an unlikeable asshole you are
i like these watching these reviews for the cars, but also for the roads. I am so jealous that I do not have anything like these here in the pittsburgh area. it would be so fun to drive there.
Talks about how easy the car is to drive, proceeds to mess up 70% of his shifts. Only Matt Farah
Literally exactly what happened
How is he messing up?
Carlos Contreras you can tell because the shift sounds strange a lot of the time and he apologized a lot
Liked before even watching the video. "Hi my name is Von and I'm a Porsche fanboy"...*"Hi Von"*
What a car. Looks so good. And it was 160k new? Holy shit. I didn't think they where that much back then.
Lol @8:25 has been confirmed recently, regular GT3 will be offered with a 6-spd stick :) hilarious to come back and hear Matt talking about "wink wink" things he's heard. I didn't catch that the first time I watched this.
Matt, how is the low end torque in comparison to the modified 335i's or even the 1M or Dinan 1M you've driven?
Badass ride!
I never heard a Porsche spool like that. Nice
i like your focus this guyyy
Matt, which would you have sans price: 997 Turbo or the 997 Carrera S? Which one drives better?
You hurt his feelings @ 4:53....Savage!! LOL
I love my 997.1 manual base Carrera! Great value for anyone who wants to experience a Porsche.
look out for that IMS bearing
I'm all good. Its a healthy car with no wear or metal dust/shavings in my oil filter. I cut my filter open every 3K miles to check for warnings. Not all 997.1's have an issue. With that said, if I see any warnings, I will replace with the better bearing.
good deal. Hope you enjoy it!
Any mods? Or is all stock, I've seen a lot of one around here that are mostly stock with an exhaust, and wheels. Which honestly u don't need more. Great cars stock. But way to quite
It's a stock cabriolet black/ black. I have aftermarket 19x8 and 19x11 mesh style wheels. All you need to open the sound up a bit more is the K&N open cone intake system and do the GUNDO HACK to the exhaust. See videos of gundo mod. Makes it sound like sport exhaust without paying for pricy aftermarket exhaust system.
The owner kind of looks like Salomondrin
*****
Of course not, but there is a slight resemblance.
Doesn't look like him at all. Newsflash: lots of people have a beard lol
more like Chuck in Supernatural
Hit it Pedro?
I give this car 5/5 absolutelys
Haha sweet. This just after Zygrene did one. Surprised you two didn't color coordinate shirts for your respective drives as well :p
The exhaust sounds good, some of the exhausts for these are hit or miss
Matt, which car do you prefer 991 turbo s or 991 gt3?
Love the one takes, but one thing I would like to see more of is the exteriors of the cars. Basically you see the cars in the thumbnails and for a few seconds in the video, but I'd like to see you guys take a little more time to show the actual cars, even if they're stock. Not like spend several minutes, but maybe a few panning shots or whatever. DOn't know if anyone else shares my sentiments, but that's just my input. Love the videos regardless.
Beautiful car 😍
sweet ride
I would like to see you do a (One take ) episode with a Jeep srt8 WK1 with a few bolt ons.
Best Porsche ever made - period.
Great car!
I wish their were roads like this in the Northeast
For real
What kind of stereo head unit was in this car?
@thesmokingtire the car wash was in Harrison ny?
Matt can you do a video of all your cars? I've always have been curious about what's in your garage.
check out his wheelwell page
Search the channel there are videos of most his cars except his vanquish which lives in CT in his parents garage
In the UK I remember one thing about the 997 turbo. Road noise.
It is cool you are collaborating with Salmondrin. How do you turn on the auto rev match?
Matt rev matches himself
There's no auto rev match on 997s
LOL I SOOOO thought that was him then he started talking...
What's the maintenance like for this Porsche?
Hey Matt, what would you choose between the 997.1/2 turbo s, GT-R, or 991.1 Carrera S?
997.2 T
Is that Wil Wheaton?
"I like your focus tho"......"uhhh yeah"...."yeah"......"it is cool".... Way to show appreciation for the compliment
+TheSmokingTire Does this car have a wheelwell account? I'd really like to know which version of SpeedTech exhaust this car has. Is there some way of contacting the owner?
+SpeedTechExhausts Any ideas?
Beautiful auto! I can't add anthing else. Enjoy. 😊
Farrah and all the team, my 2008 Chevy Trailblazer SS came with the ls2 and its 395hp and after my mods I've got her up to 417 at the wheels. It's one of the few rear wheel drive TBSS,'s and I know without a doubt the fans would love seeing something different
. The car is a riot... Pullin up to stang gts or sti's and leaving them in the dust never gets old hah I'd love to have u take her for a drive so let me know if you want an suv that loves to chirp 1st to 2nd all day.. I live in Valencia and work in Sherman oaks so I'm alway around. I hope you get back to me. I can send photos and specs or whatever you need. Every where I go people have no idea what it is, with your help....lets show them. Cheers
hey matt is there a one take with a 911 R?
Guys where did you film this? I know it's in the US but the terrain totally has a Mediterranean vibe.
Angeles Forest in Southern California
love the video Matt!! r u gonna b sending ur focus to hennessey for hp upgrades?
He sold it
Ahh!!! My old 911 turbo!!!!! Lee!!!! The car looks great!
oooo the previous owner! Always nice to see when the owners join in on the comments. Hopefully Lee will chime in too.
Did you have any problems with the car when you owned it?
Zero problems with the car when I owned it. It was actually one of the best cars I've ever owned. Very reliable, tons of power and torque and the interior was very refined. Great leather, sound system and like Lee mentioned in the video.... if you just want to drive around town or go out to a nice dinner with your girl its the perfect car. Super good GT style car for driving fast in the canyons and then cruising around town as a daily driver.
The only reason I sold this car is because I wanted more of a track car, so I bought a 2008 GT3. Now the GT3 is a great reliable car with a Mezger engine as well (same dry sump style motor built but mezger in both GT3 and Turbo of the 997.1 Era) The GT3 is a raw car, bumps, rattles and creeks but I love it. Girlfriend on the other hand.... hates taking the GT3 to dinner.
If I could afford to keep both the GT3 and turbo and my other cars I would.
This is insanely quick but it lacks character. That's why the Turbos are usually so cheap to get second hand. A few months ago one of these ran in front of my friend in his Supra and me up the Nufenenpass in Switzerland. The Turbo stormed out of the corners but all my friend could hear (with the Targa top off) was my Cayman ;)
The Turbo is a strange car for Switzerland. Way too quick for our speeding penalties but so easy to use all year around.
What wheels are those? I need a set.
Fabulous car
this is the model with the turbo was available manual and the Turbo S was pdk only right so this is the last Turbo available with manual correct
I like this car a lot. But Porsche pricing is really hard to swallow. Used examples of this car are in the $70k range, at 9 years old and with ~30k miles on them. What else can you get for $60-$70k?
Brand new:
Charger/Challenger Hellcat
Cadillac ATS-V
Corvette Grand Sport
GT350/GT350R
Camaro ZL1 (not on sale yet)
And those are all brand new cars, all of them either comparable or faster than this Porsche, and cars like the ATS-V having some of the best driving dynamics on the road today. So I'd love to have a 911 Turbo, but I keep coming back to the cost, and wondering what else I could get for the same money. And there is a lot of choice in that price range now, and frankly I would go for a Corvette Grand Sport over a used 911 Turbo, for roughly the same price. I'd also be happy with an ATS-V or a GT350. And that ZL1 is going to be an absolute monster.
Come back in five years and the Porsche will probably be worth more than all of them except maybe the 350R, and you're not getting one of those for sticker.
The Porsche is a nearly $200,000 car brand new...so the fact that it is $70,000 now, despite being 9 years old, means it's a really good bargain.
you're high and you're comparing used and new and that Porsche will be faster around a corner then all the cars you listed. and if you think that Cadillac has anything on a Porsche around the corner you have never really pushed a car I promise. maybe low speed but you've never taken a 90 mile an hour right in your life if you say that s***
lonewolf5460 Uh... a 997 turbo is absolutely not faster than a Corvette Grand Sport around ANY corner. You are seriously ignorant if you think it is. And I doubt that it's faster than an ATS-V or a GT350 either.
Take some time to educate yourself before speaking again.
www.caranddriver.com/features/lightning-lap-2016-results-historical-lap-times-and-more-feature
You can very clearly see here that the 2007 911 Turbo runs a 3:05.8 while the Cadillac ATS-V - which is a 4 door sedan - runs a 2:59.2 on the same track with the same drivers in the same configuration in the same conditions.
In case you're bad at math, that is a SIX SECOND PER LAP gap with the ATS-V being FASTER, not slower, than the Porsche. And it does that with LESS POWER than the Porsche.
You need to seriously educate yourself before speaking again. And just in case you were wondering, the Corvette Grand Sport was a full NINETEEN SECONDS PER LAP faster than the 997 911 Turbo.
Saying "Porsche will be faster around a corner then all the cars you listed" is almost incomprehensibly stupid given the actual lap times of those cars. The Corvette is so much faster through corners - and again, with LESS POWER than the porsche - that it would LAP the Porsche within about 8-9 laps.
Cadillac has TWO 4 door cars that lap faster than the 997 Turbo, the Mustang GT350R laps a solid 15 seconds PER LAP faster than the 997 Turbo.
You are seriously ignorant and you need to get a lot smarter before commenting again.
Vernon Price I don't think you comprehend just how good the Turbo was BACK THEN. And you only listed one track. Pit a brand new 911 Turbo S with a Grand Sport, and it would take the Z06 to beat the 911. You're saying power to lap time ratios, but the 911 is sporting 9 year old technology. That's like saying, "Well why is the M235i just as fast as the M3 10 years ago" like dude, the M3 is TEN YEARS OLD.
And I don't think the 911 is faster around any corner, especially a 9 year old 911 vs. a brand new Corvette GS. But I will put all my money saying the 911 will feel better, more visceral, and more engaging than the Corvette, ESPECIALLY among the 997 generation.
But back to your original point: why is the 911 priced the same as new cars that can blow it out of the water, performance-wise? Well like I said, *It cost nearly 200,000 brand new*. That's like saying why is a 10+ year old Ferrari 360 costing more than a Z06? The Z06 would leave the 360 in the dust! *Because the Ferrari, when it was new, cost over $200,000*. Money doesn't work in the way of performance, especially when comparing old vs. new cars.
awesome car
What`s the official speed limit there?
airbnb matt, beside some nice driving roads
That response to the Focus RS being brought up though. Is it not everything it's cracked up to be?
Must have been filmed a few weeks back, as I see Matt's Focus RS floating in the carpark.
What a road :)
hey Matt... quick question... wasn't the 997 Turbo what NIssan use to mesaure the GT-R's performance???
Probably. The 997TT was new in 07 and the GTR came out in 09 so the time line works.
thanks... I think that there's a Jeremy Clarkson special where he takes a 997 turbo to 204 MPH in the autobahn... great respect for that car.
Think that was a GT2, because it was the first 911 over 200
could be..., but that thing was a 911 on steroids and 2 wheel drive... and had 611 hp... the same as the Carrera GT...
it was the 997.1 turbo that they used as the standard.
It is so nice to see engineers making faster and faster cars because all that comes into my mind is seeing a 911 being as fast as a 918 in the not so distant future.
Matt's explanation of the TPC DSC is slightly incorrect. The G meters are actually stock Porsche in the turbo model...the DSC box taps into them for information and processes the signal in the unit. There are no G meters in the DSC box.
How many absolutely's would you all give this car? I give it 4/5 absolutely's.
Matt where can I read your thoughts about the RS? Seemed like you really weren't happy with the car just from that one question.
Hi Matt, I have no complaints with your video.
I mean, it's a cool car, but couldn't you have gotten George from the Corolla XRS to ride with you instead?
awesome!!!!
this dude looks like mac from its always sunny
would yo get a 997.1 or 997.2 turbo in manual matt? or would you consider a 997.2 gts for the same ball park?
the 997.2 Turbo only comes in PDK automatic.
ur wrong it comes in manual as well. you are thinking of the turbo s sir.
ah just looked, my bad thought all the newish turbos only had pdk.
Best modern awd911
How about a tune?
the owner sounds just like Matimio.
hell yeah a 997
Anyone have any idea where this takes place? I wish I had places to drive like this in FL :( I might have to move...
radicalrobason
Angeles National Forest in Southern California
Can anyone tell me where this was shot? Can't believe there are no other cars, what a road!
He tries to pretend hes cool, but I know he cringed when Matt hit red line lol
most definitely.
nothing wrong with that. it's his baby, not some press car beater
Agreed
Only clueless pussies cringe when redline is his....
+beatsByZlaya not when the computer counts over rev ranges and it can devalue the car
That overrev is now recorded in DME! opps
hendeeze - that’s not considered overrev. He simply bounced off the rev limiter. That car is able to take 9,000 rpm without issue. 😂😂😂
When supercar drivers revert to talking about vacuum cleaners. 8:45 I am so broke, ha
when are we gonna see some more trucks, some SVT lightings maybe something weird like an chevy SSR.
Matt I believe the new, manual GT3 will have a turbocharged engine in much the same way the new Carrera S has. If I'm right the 911R will be a collectors car. You heard it here first!
Porsche says the "GT" cars will always be N/A.
@@TheSmokingTire 4 years later, we all know what history says :) 911 R collector car indeed, GT3 NA indeed.
Where is this road?
Angeles National Forest in Southern California
This is my dream car ( if I was picky I'd want a 997.2 turbo). Regardless an amazing car. Sadly I won't be able to buy one before they start to become collectible :/. I plan to settle and maybe get a 997 C4S someday.
yeah Widebody..Sexy!!! I have a Guards Red Targa 4s with Turbo Wheels and fully worked suspension from HKS. Full Fabspeed Intake Exhaust and Tune. Beast
