    Searching for the Spark 1969 -1991 is a limited edition 22 CD deluxe box set containing all the work guitar great and electronic music innovator Steve Hillage recorded from his studio debut (1969's Arzachel) to the first System 7 album in 1991.
    The set includes:
    * Arzachel.
    * Khan's Space Shanty, 1972.
    * All eight of Hillage's classic Virgin Records solo albums - Fish Rising, L, Motivation Radio, Green, Open (and Studio Herald), Rainbow Dome Music, Open, For To Next (and its companion And Not Or) - plus bonus tracks.
    * System 7 (first album).
    * Live in Deeply Vale, 1978.
    * Two BBC performances from The Paris Theatre recorded in December 1976 and November 1979.
    * Eight CDs featuring recordings taken from Steve's personal archive, including four superb concert performances (Brighton Dome November 1977, Munich April 1979, Hammersmith Odeon November 1979, The Steve Hillage Band Live At The Gong Family Unconvention 2006) and four discs (Sparks Volumes 1-4) packed with previously unheard and unreleased tracks, demos and alternate takes.
    Accompanying the recordings is a magnificent 188 page 32,000 word coffee table book. Written and assembled by Steve Hillage and Gong family expert Jonny Greene, the book contains hundreds of rare and previously unseen photographs and cuttings.
    In addition there are three reproduction promo posters, two lyric booklets, a high quality enamel badge, a 60 page scrap book containing more photographs and cuttings, and a certificate of authenticity signed by Steve Hillage and his creative partner Miquette Giraudy.
    The Golden Ticket:
    One lucky owner of the box set will find that Steve and Miquette included an extra message on their signed certificate. This will be that owner’s ‘golden ticket’ that entitles them to an exclusive gift from Steve: a stained glass window featuring the Sparks icon designed by hand by Richard Pelham of Glastonbury Stained Glass. The icon, otherwise known as ‘Vesica Pisces’, is formed of curves and strips of carefully cut and hand-soldered iridescent glass with a width of approximately 1cm.
    Please note that this superb Steve Hillage package is strictly limited to 2500 copies globally.

      Agree - there's 'humble' and then there's Steve Hillage 'humble' - super down-to-earth guy. Yet, he's rubbed shoulders with some of the industry's best, as well as being a treasure unto himself. Happy memories of collecting his albums back in the '70s.

    Miquette is such a blessing to Steve in so many ways. Apart from being one of the few truly beautiful women in rock (Its been a lot of years but I was there for the 70's and she shined for many years - he is one lucky sod), she is an innovator on synthesizer and a great prog vocalist.

    I saw Steve Hillage at Glastonbury in 1979, a festival that Tim Blake's Crystal Machine and Mother Gong also played and there were rumours flying round that Daevid Allen was gonna show up for a GONG reunion.....which unfortunately never came to pass at that venue at least!

    I've given this a `like,' but my thoughts are divided. Speaking as someone who's bought Steve and Miquette's records since they first appeared in the 70s, I already have the regular releases twice, on vinyl and again on CD, as well as the Khan and Arzachel releases, Gong at Amsterdam, etc etc. The book looks to be very good, and the CD extras may be worthwhile, though in general I find the released versions have been the best choices to release - judging from the CD extras, which are often of interest more than being more musically satisfying than what we've already bought and known for years. The end result is that this is a beautiful gift set, and it's nice that Steve and Miquette have had this produced, but many of us can't really afford to buy stuff we've bought twice before for the sake of also getting some other stuff. A smaller set with just
    the book and the extras might have been a good idea? Anyway, I know someone who'll be buying this, although I won't unless I suddenly get rich, so hopefully it will sell. On the other hand I'm fully satisfied with what I already have from Steve and Miquette.

I was learning English at univ then, we read all the sleeve notes to learn as much info as we could and among those I'd wonder : who is that "Miquette"??? I wanted to know if she was french or british. We were going to the concerts and festivals in the open air, meeting strange people on the road, always high, what a trip it was !!!

      @@simoneric8183 Yes indeed they are! When I decided to return them the favor by leaving them off of my plate...I very soon became a friendly peaceful person, then when I was browsing the import section of a very small independent record store back in 1982, I glanced the record "L". First of all, I was drawn to the handsome cover, then noticed the first song was "Hurdy Gurdy Man" by Donovan, then the album's closer was "It's All Too Much" the George Harrison masterpiece. I also noticed his backup band was Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Steve Hillage taught me how to be a master of having an open mind.

      Are you nuts? This is worth TWICE the money! And what difference does the price make? It's not the cost that counts, it's the VALUE.
      Does the fact that a car costs thousands mean you shouldn't buy one?
      NO! Of COURSE not!.
      Well, it's the exact same principle that applies here.
