It's interesting how much of what they did with the voice acting in this game was never done again. Hwoarang spoke Japanese and "Engrish" in Japan, Korean everywhere else, yet perfect English in cutscenes, Jin spoke Japanese but also English with a very thick accent in cutscenes, Steve had more of a Cockney accent, Lei spoke English with a thick accent, and whatever was going on with Lee.

I like Hwoarang's voice in Tekken 4. I think it underlines the "delinquent" side of his character more than his current voice.
While I think Hwoarang having a mix of Japanese and English dialogue is interesting, I am glad Namco decided to make Hwoarang speak his own national language and decided to give Lee the Bilingual trait instead. I mean we wouldn't have classics lines such as: "CAAHHMM OONN!" &
"EXCELLENT!"
And we wouldn't have had Michael Jackson mods with Lee with him going: ALL I WANNA SAY IS.... *Billie Jean* and GO WITH THE BAD!
Man its so weird for him to have different voice actors for different versions. I really love his dialogue.
They initially went with whoever worked for their character, but then they switched to everyone speaking their native language exclusively which means some characters never had an English or Japanese voice actor again till some crossover or anime.
Toshiyuki Morikawa is back with Hwoarang in the latest Tekken Anime
And Greg Dale voices him during his Tekken 4 ending. I wish we kept Morikawa, but I guess their solution of picking characters for each language without regard for how they shouldn't understand each other works too.
Morikawa does him again in Tekken Bloodline, he still sounds like Tekken 3-4 Hworarang
I've been looking for proof of this for years! An ice rink near my hometown had an old original Tekken 4 arcade unit, and I vaguely remembered Hwoarang and Jin speaking English in-game. This is proof I'm not insane lol

Very interesting! This game still looks so good too. I remember really disliking it as a kid, coming right off of Tekken 3/tag1, but man was I wrong. Now as an adult, I really appreciate the highly experimental approach they took in the gameplay, aesthetics, and the music is amazing too. It's now one my favorite in the series for the aforementioned reasons.

Hwoarang seems to have the most personality in Tekkken 4 than the other games. Could be the typical cheesy Japan-English accent he has in some of his lines. Terry Bogard in Smash 5 had that as well.

I disagree, T5 Hwoarang has more personality. You can even see how his behaviour changes depending who he's talking to. When going up against Baek you see him being very respectful towards him, but you see a different side of him when he's facing Jin and he puts up more of a cocky attitude.
Unless you're talking about the intros and winposes, cause those are great in T4 and i would love to see more like these in the next game.

this is so odd, i have an original copy from PS2 & he has a mix of both Japan's & International lines in it. one good session of the game & you wouldn't really come across the same dialogue maybe more than at least twice & that's if one is playing for long tbh

Tekken 4 and 5 are by far my favourite Tekken games of the Franchise. Especially Tekken 4 is sourly the most unique and underrated (mostly because of the choices that hindered the competitive scene) but it is my favorite Tekken to date, because of the very seriousness Vibes of the Story aspects perspective. The seriousness atmosphere of Tekken 4 it's on another level in my opinion. The soundtrack is what gets me the most next to the game's atmosphere. With soundtracks like: Fetus(Prologue), Authentic Sky, Unihabited(Mall Area) Didgerhythm(Jungle Area) Touch and Go(Airport Area) and Kitsch(Beach Area) and The Inner Shrine(Hon-Maru Temple) and others soundtracks, For me Tekken 4 remains even in these days the most Unique Tekken game of the series.☯️

A proper remaster of this game for the current gen would be insane. Look how crisp and gorgeous the graphics are and how well they hold up. It’d be especially cool considering the difficulties the original PAL version of the game faced for the PS2.
I would not be against a re-release of Tekken 4 but what's the problem with the PAL PS2 version? As far as I know it's one of the few PAL PS2 games that supported both 60hz and progressive scan.
I don't know what it is but I like this hwoarang in tekken 4. Overall he's still just plain ol awesome kickass hwoarang no matter how I look at him. 😁✨
I hope Tekken 8 provides both English & international voiceover options for the whole roster. Hopefully they bring back bilingual Hwoarang, Jin, & Lee/Violet.
Also Lili, Miguel, Eddy, and Leo's English lines and voices!

確かに鉄拳4でのファランの韓国語音声はトーンが重くて似合わない気がしますね。
でも僕が個人的に考えると、英語/日本語音声も多少トーンが重く、韓国人らしくない気もするので多少似合わない気がします。
キャラクターの国籍に合わせることとアーケードバージョンと日本語PS2バージョンに使用された英語/日本語音声と最大限同じトーンで発声できる声優を探すことが重要だと思われてイ・ジョングさんが採用されたんじゃないかなと思います。
少なくともキャラクターの国籍に合わせることでもしたから、これによってトーンが重いという短所が相殺される気がします。
とにかく鉄拳4でのファランの英語、日本語、韓国語音声は全部悪くないと思います。次期作の鉄拳5からはオム・サンヒョンさんのおかげでやはり一番いい感じですね。
ストリートファイターX鉄拳でのファランの日本声優は前野智昭さんですが、これも十分にいい感じです。
スト鉄拳日本語声優もよく似合うと思います。🥰

I am korean. This korean voice actor is very famous in korea.His roles include Orochimaru from Naruto, Kogoro Mori from Detective Conan, and Dracule Mihawk from One Piece. But, the Korean and international versions of Tekken 4 Hwoarang were notorious in Korea for miscasting. This is because the voice did not match the age range.
