Bending Fascia on a Siding Brake: Tips

Continuing to improve one of my investment properties, getting the exterior of this place all wrapped up. In this video I show you a few tricks and tips I have found while bending fascia on a siding brake. I am in no way a professional--always working to improve. Comment below with your tips.

i hem both sides along the length for rigidity and to prevent buckling.

@@handylandlord .....you also can try doing a over-bend (max allowed with you brake) 'without a flat hem' when the fascia will have a gutter, obviously the over-bend goes outward. It adds the rigidity and kicks the drip-edge out a little off the fascia and keeps water from tracking (surface tension) the drip-edge to the fascia. It also keeps the drip-edge in a uniform straight line along the fascia trim. I only do this where gutters will be. Copy and paste the the link below, great explanation. Give it a try and have fun.

Whats the thickness of your aluminum and what’s that cool cutting tool you used to cut lengthwise??

The tool is called a slitter.

Can vinyl be bent the same way?

No I don’t think so… It will not hold the bend but I’ve never tried. U can normally buy white vinyl from Home Depot with a 90 bend for fascia.

Can you still get parts for the sidding brake?

No I don’t think parts are available. Thankfully I haven’t needed anything. Someone was telling me some of the parts are interchangeable with other brand brake. I picked it up off marketplace for $400 several years ago. Before that I was renting a brake 5 to 8 times a year.
