    I like this. Only 1 thing, just make sure nothing underneath is gone wrong. What if any mold or damage to fix? Would not be good to add glue until you know what is there. This floor looks in good shape, so this method works if nothing bad happening underneath. Thank you 🙏

    My floor squeaks without walking on it as well as when walking on it. It was so loud this morning it woke me up sounding as if someone was jumping up and down on it but there was no one there. It was only laid 9 months ago, the room was a new conversion. It was very warm yesterday and quite cold last night, could it be expansion from temperature changes causing it, if so does any one know how to stop the sound? I'm thinking maybe when they put the floor down perhaps they didn't leave enough gap between the laminate flooring and the wall and there isn't enough room for the laminate to expand properly... Only thing I can think of, I've never even heard of this issue before.

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, sometimes not enough space for moving, why it can squeaks.

    • @n.barrett4734
      @n.barrett4734 Před 3 lety +3

      Depending on what kind of flooring was laid, it seems like they didn't let the wood acclimatize to your home's moisture and the floor is very tight. It shrinks a little in the day when the sun comes in and warms the room, then goes back to being tight at night when it's cooler {expanding back outwardly}. Call the company back and explain your situation. Perhaps they will give you a partial refund. It seems like the whole floor is that way and I wouldn't bet that they will come back, tear it all back up and start over. Also, laminate flooring isn't supposed to be laid down, taken up and laid again. The joints would be too loose and not look well and let more moisture between the boards.

    how can you tell if the sound is the laminate an not the floor underneath? if it was placed over old wood floor. In some areas, It seems like it must be the top laminate because you barely put pressure and it squeaks. it is driving me crazy- but a quote from the flooring co. that installed it is so high- they said it's floor underneath - sub floor and it needs to be repaired and if is a bigger issue with the sub floor it could be even more.

  • @bbar182
    @bbar182 Před 2 lety +9

    I would not use a knife to cut in between the boards because you end up breaking the locking mechanism and then its permanently destroyed. The real problem for creaky floors is 2 main reasons. Firstly the floor below is uneven so only way to remedy this is by using a levelling compound or underlay boards not rolls prior to laying the floor. Or secondly the laminate is cheap type and less than 10 mm thick so it flexes easily causing the noise. A third reason could be that the lock mechanism is rubbish and the fitter didnt follow the instructions or glue the joints.

      Thanks for this. I'm having this exact problem and in a new build. We thought it could be not leaving enough expansion gap could this be the case? It is only happening at specific points in the floor and from what we see we can't see movement.

    Not good. For a month or two solution. I can see your floor is moving under your steps. It means there is a gap between it and the sub-floor. More direct way is to fill that gap with your glue from the top by puncturing the floor. Use guitar glue syringe to inject. Touch up the access hole after to make it less noticeable.

    • @MrYoucandoityourself
      @MrYoucandoityourself  Před 3 lety

      Hmm... Always moving? Why do you fix exactly this spot if all your floor "always" moving? Anyway, your solution is good as a temporary one. This problem is way more tricky than just adhesive fill-in

      I would never recommend laminate, I wish I could afford to replace mine with vinyl strips. It creaks in all the rooms upstairs, also do not use in kitchen or baths, it soaks up moisture and swells up

    • @Al_Z.Heimer
      @Al_Z.Heimer Před 3 lety +1

      I am a big fan of tile for a number of reasons but of course pros and cons. In Florida, so many use it. I've never had laminate until now; it was in this house I bought squeaky here and there. Never had the problem with wood floors. When I get around to it on the priority of tasks, I'll try talcum or corn starch baby powders in the cracks of the laminate planks, making sure to make sure the powder is only in the cracks.
      I've had carpeted floors squeak, but that was because the builder was a cheap SOB and didn't fasten down the horizonal wall 2 x 4 base to the flooring. I pulled off the base board and used a special screw at an angle whereever the floor squeaked near the wall. Works. Angled the long screw partially or wholly through the drywall and fastened the 2 x 4 to the floor... sometimes you didn't find the right spot the first time. If you are lazy, you can go right through the baseboard...but sloppy. If the squeak is away from the wall and you can't get underneath, you'd probably be better to take up the carpet briefly and fasten the flooring better to the joists or 2 x 4, whatever the flooring is on.

  • @wojtekstach78
    @wojtekstach78 Před 6 lety +1

    that kind of noise most common reason is that the flooring that should remain floating is actually blocked somewhere. Dealing this way You just trying to fight the symptom and the root cause is not eliminated in most cases.

      I am not sure that this works for laminate or wood, but I recall reading that using talcum powder (maybe corn starch baby powder will work) in the joints or cracks makes the creaking go away. You must be careful to work it in the cracks without leaving any on the surface else the surface will be exceptionally slippery-- not fun if you flounder around trying to keep your balance or fall on one's tuckus. lol hmmmm.... my ex has such floors....hmmm heh heh
