It's a great expansion to an already expansive world, but the "Maine" accents aren't even close. In fact, they're so off the mark it pulls me out of the game.
This is the first thing that came to mind when I heard about the DLC taking place in Maine. I'm excited to see my home state ingame, but I'm a bit disappointed I'm not gonna get to hear about someone's uncle Steve and how he makes the best friggin' whoopie pies evah!
I was telling my partner about Far Harbor because we're going back and playing Fallout 4 again via gamepass and I thought "Hmm, I wonder if anyone ever made a clip of those completely ridiculous accents that came from who absolutely knows where." Thank you for being that person. =P As a kid I lived on the east coast and my grandpa had a cabin in Maine. I continuously forgot that the DLC was even supposed to be set in Maine because the characters constantly sounded like weird scottish canadian gargling.
I just got and played through this DLC, I grew up in Maine and was so excited it was loosely based on Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island but holy crap those fake accents were horrible.
As a Mainah, I was so disappointed when I arrived at the dock on the boat, and heard captain Avery's voice, then seached the whole place to find a npc with the proper accent but to no avail. I even heard someone say here, like how hard is it to look up and find the old "You can't get the-ah from he-ah" Maine adage, and do the proper accent based off some videos.
Danger Illustrated They sound like New Englanders to me. I'm 21 and have lived in Maine my whole life. It sounds like it's mixed with a Chicago sort of accent.
Bethesda definitely couldve hired out better voice actors. I even bet bob marley costs less than the reused skyrim voice actors. Also maine is missing the e on the souvenir mugs and theres wolves instead of coyotes even though wolves arent typically found in maine because coyotes already fill their niche. Not to mention coyotes have a better chance surviving the apocalypse than wolves because of the niches they cover
I agree, accents we're horrible. Mariner myself. But old Longfellow really reminded me of my grandpa, I think that's the only character I found kinda real.
I live in Maine too and all accents are terrible. I guess they can chalk it up to radiation and time. Also to be fair most of the Boston accents were awful as well.
They invited everyone down from Vancouver and B.C. when they annexed Canada, so that's why you have the third accent. *Disclaimer* Probably not, but if you rationalize it like that, you can...almost bear it.

Oh come on now, we play video games. We have to do something when we're not working or drunk.

lol yea
That second accent was awful, it's like some sort of incoherent mashing of the worst Irish and Canadian accents Bethesda could find.
The island is real it's real name is bar harbor
