- Spice Girl Mel C has told Times Radio that Prime Minister Liz Truss represents Girl Power "in essence" but that the current economic situation in the UK is a "flipping disgrace".
Speaking on Times Radio at the Cheltenham Literature Festival she told Cathy Newman:
I kind of avoid political issues but I didn't have my photograph taken with Liz at a certain event I was at recently. And I'll leave it at that.
CN: But is she Girl Power, as a female Prime Minister?
MC: You know, in essence. But I don't want that to sound like that is my beliefs. It's a very difficult time, as we all know, in the UK right now and I come from an area of the UK where lots of people struggle financially.
I try not to be political but in all honesty it's... I can't swear. It's a flipping disgrace. Isn't it, though?
CN: What in particular is a disgrace?
MC: Well, you know, you're talking about the bankers getting their bonuses. I'm in a very privileged position, you know, I can't get up on my high horse and start saying things, but I think any person with any morals can see what's going on isn't right. But I think we all feel just so worn out by it all and it concerns me what's going to happen. People are desperate, what is going to happen?
She also spoke of her relief that social media was not around when the Spice Girls first hit stardom:
I'm really grateful it wasn't around in the 90s. I think I would have found it very difficult to cope with that along with everything else. But the one benefit from social media is you have an immediate voice. You know, the thing that was often frustrating for me and for all of us when we were written about if something was untrue, or something was unkind, the only opportunity you had to talk back was in an interview. And then it would have to be a live television or radio interview because things are often edited in certain ways.

Sheâs absolutely right. Mel C cares about the real people in this country, not the privileged fewâŠ
She is part of thw privileged few if measured by money. And it's ultimately abkut money.
Great interview, she is very eloquent and seems humble.
Damn good interview. Am a 62 year old Brit, not in to the Spice Girls, but very impressed with Mel C. Will order her book asap.
Kathy Newman is just not a great interviewer. She asks a question and then zones out during the reply.. so frustrating. She missed so many opportunities to pick up on things Melanie said.
This was such a good interview and im not even a big spice girls fan, thanks times radio for making my morning alot more interesting after watching this.
"I don't wan to be quoted"...News Radio immediately quotes her
The interviewer was so rude. Imagine asking someone a question and then not looking at them or actively listening to the answer. Melanie was so eloquent and well spoken as always though!
So what you're saying is...
yes, since you won't say it let me say it for you....
Love Mel C!
As an ex-Cheltonian I can tell you that whatâs happening at the Cheltenham Lit Fest is a disgrace
â€
I was born in the nw.
A place called runcorn (no caps). Would that be Runcorn? My parents were divorcedâŠSorry just taking notes-helps me to focus.
Greetings to all Cheltonians over there in Chelters.
Oh dear the tabloids! Canât remember anything else. How many tabloids are there in England? In the body?
Will Cathy Newman now interview a member of Depeche Mode on the state of the UK economy?
Nah, because by interviewing a man she might tend to imply that the male gender is potentially acceptable, interesting and significant for anything apart from its awfulness.
..she's probably petrified after interviewing Prof Peterson where she was publicly humiliated

He is too busy having a nervous breakdown.
He's busy checking out Putins comb collection
Lordy! Talk about irrelevant!
I often wonder why some Music and film people can never have a real view about anything important, maybe it's because they really know Nothing and don't really care if it has nothing to do with them or their career...
She's so brave though isn't she ?????
Feminists massaging their over hyped egos.... đ€Ł
First decent, honest video that Times Radio have posted in 7 months...
Hi Mel C!
Have you ever considered being a
PROFESSIONAL BODY BUILDER? đȘđȘ
I think you'd beat everyone else, all the time - you've got such a great physiqueđđ
And don't worry about Victoria.. Never mind if she can't (or even doesn't want to) be in new concerts with the rest of the girls).. YOU'RE SO GOOD you can, confidently, do without đ
