@travisbplank I wouldn't buy more now due to the volatility prior to a console launch, but I would sell right after the console launches because in between a console launching and the console gaining a decently sizes userbase is when profits are at their lowest and the stock will dip. Once it dips than its advisable to buy and wait for the userbase and game sales to go up.

@@prognosticii yen is already rallying. The problem isn’t the currency. It’s that we’re seeing a global collapse in the world economy. Consoles depend on their first 18 months. Switch was a success because 2017 was such a good year. Now Switch 2 is going to launch into a recession. People aren’t going to rush out and buy a Switch 2 which means they very well may just have a dud on their hands for another 6-7 years. The console will struggle to gain momentum. This is why it wasn’t a pro-move but an absolutely n00b play. Warning signs have been flashing since 2022. Nintendo ignored them because things were going OK. Now Switch 1 is at market saturation and Switch 2 is dead in the water.

@@saikonohero1435 I think Holiday 2023/Early 2024 would have been the last window to sell it. These years weren’t great either. 2023 was down for the whole games market. But you at least could have a strong launch and then hope to weather the storm if one comes (and hindsight, it is coming). This also would have been the normal 6-7 year life cycle for a console. It’s better to be ahead of the downturn than in it. Now Nintendo has to consider if they need to get the thing out cheaper and if they can afford long development cycles. The 2008 recession was very hard for Nintendo and Wii sales collapsed.
These things take time but Nintendo should have started planning in 2022 to get a foothold. They basically sat on their hands because the Switch was doing well. Problem is console market can change fast, and Nintendo could go from “success” to investors demanding Nintendo games on Steam (Nintendo’s mobile push was due to Wii U/3DS failing and investors getting upset with them)

For anyone who thinks a potential economic downturn in 2025 is a problem for Nintendo:
Was gaming down in 2008 when the world was undergoing the worst economic downturn since the great depression? Fiscal year 2009 (April 2008 - March 2009) which was completely within the early days of the great recession when the economy was at it's worst saw Nintendo sell 26 Million Wii's and 31.2 Million DS's.
Both numbers were up from Nintendo's 2008 fiscal year when the economy was riding high on a bubble. (18.6 million Wii's / 30.3 Million DS) In fiscal year 2010 which is when the world was starting to recover from the "great recession" sales of the Wii was down to 20.5 million and the DS was down to 27.1 million.
The fiscal year 2011 happened and the fall off was steep for both consoles. (15.1 Million Wii's / 17.5 Million DS's)
Video games are pretty cheap entertainment so they typically benefit in economically uncertain times. Less vacations, going out, more stay-cations and home entertainment. Nintendo is probably licking their chops for a economic down turn they can benefit from.
In 2008 Nintendo moved more consoles than any console manufacturer in history in a single year, why would you think it is a bad move to potentially release the Switch 2 in the same conditions?

What the Switch 2 needs is a 3D Mario, a Mario Kart, maybe "smaller" games like a Yoshi game, or a Kirby game, some decent 3rd party games (I'd like to see more FromSoft games, Tekken 8, and SF6) and a couple of remasters/remakes to pad things out. Metroid Prime 4 will likely be cross gen or receive a cross gen patch to enhance performance. I imagine Splatoon 4 is also in the realm of possibility in the first year as Splatoon 2 was (if I remember correctly). Lots of possibilities, but I'm placing my money on the above. That's why the hit has been basically global, even though Japan (and South Korea) has suffered some of the biggest crashes.

Wii U should have been seen as Wii accessory. If Wii U Gamepad was massively successful already first, Wii U console would have launched it into space.
This can be done now. The BEST idea I have is they should make Gamecube Future, or Gamecube 2. Portable device the size of a Rubik's cube (like some others) that can download and host content that is streamed locally to Switch consoles.
Alternatively it could simply manage processing of GCF games inside the Switch card slot, so even while it's read on your Switch, it would be the hub where other people's Switches connect to for multiplayer. If it can host DLSS passthroughs, it could be possible to ran multiplayer with a lot of the power demand being handled by everyone's own Switch.
My goofy idea with Gamecube is not just to have a sequel but a larger strategy of breaking down the "next iteration" mindset, and have people understand that emulated Gamecube games on NSO and maybe on phones, can be a LEGIT commercial product. They can look back a decade or two, like with every normal media product, such as Shakespeare being remade 400 years into the future.

Considering Nintendo's recent sales data, it seems like it'll be difficult for them to sell another 10 million Switch units in this economy, especially if people are less likely to spend money.

Nintendo can sometimes seem stagnant at times. But they’d stuck around for a reason. Nintendo doesn’t behave like a tech company. Tech is volatile and unstable as they hedge their bets on unproven technology and strategies. If you’ve noticed, the only stable tech companies are the ones with literal monopolies or obscene market capture and domination. Nintendo innovates while also adhering closely to core tenets that have been around as long as the company.

No amount of inflation is good. It is just the central bank counterfeiting the currency you are forced to hold. Cantillon effects are that the first ones to receive the newly counterfeited money (typically gov't cronies) benefit from having more money before the market realizes that there is more money and updates their prices. The result is a wealth redistribution from holders of the money to the recipients of the new counterfeit money and to those who hold assets (whose prices increase in response to inflation).
A bit of a nitpick on a minor point in the video, but the way people commonly conflate inflation with rising prices obscures the reality that people would be able to grow their savings without having to gamble in the markets were it not for their government robbing them via inflation.

      that is absolutely not true.

Japan is the polar opposide of "self sufficient" requiring everything from food, raw materials to finished producs from outside of the island to even function.
Imports have gotten more important and more expensive while the economy could not afford more. People needed to work more to make up for that. 60h work weeks are not uncommon, 70 and 80h work weeks are possible at times. This directly leads to the lower birth rates, marriage rates, higher suicide rates and so on. Almost every single major social problem faced by the japanese is caused because they are not self sufficient under any circumstance.
