2015 Jetta: WIERD Long Crank Before Start Issue: Worth Checking FIRST!

  • In this video I demonstrate how what appeared to be a fuel pump issue (high pressure driven by the cam or low pressure electric in the tank) is a design flaw with the key! Very strange. It is my hope that this doesn’t give false hope to those with a more serious issue, but given that the key fob can and will cause a long crank condition, this seems worth sharing!

    Thank you! Putting the key against the steering column and then attempting to start the car worked for us. Thank you for sharing. I do not have to go out of the house on this cold and rainy day to pick up my husband. Thank you from TX.

      You're MOST welcome, from frigid WNY, where we've had snow in JULY! (1957, i wasnt here, but i was for the 5" we got in June of 88).
      Change the battery and you should be all set =)

    I have the same problem in my 2015 , what I don't understand if this is such a common problem why vw mechanics make a big deal of not understanding a recurrent issue that is something they need to communicate with all the mechanics and dealers anyway thanks for the video hope they can fix my car soon

      If you wait until the little orange steering wheel light turns on the dash before starting it likely wont long crank, but if your key battery is good and that light comes on (you can hear the steering wheel unlock when it does it), then you have another issue

    I have an issue where the same model jetta starts up immediately and dies. Doesn't run for even 2 seconds. It does this about 5 times then it starts up and runs bad(misfires through the intake).
    After a couple of seconds it idles fine and drives fine even at wide open throttle. (changed crank sensor, cam sensor (located under the head), cleaned injectors, changed hpfp, coolant temp sensor). Don't know what else to do.

      @@taylor_81 it seems to be a TDI issue. I have a 13 and it randomly does the long crank and other times it fires right up. I was thinking is an oil pressure issue but I don’t know.

    I have a push button start, three times now since I got it, after pushing the button, I get one click from the starter before it turns over and starts right up. I can't find anything on it. It's weird.

    I have problem with first star(Seat Alhambra,2016) no codes, no this valve on engine. I removed and checked Fuel injectors- ok, new rings, new sparks) but the same problem long first start at the morning. But I also have problem with turbo it’s screaming, and when I remove it between turbo collector and engine was black smoke footprint. When I fix turbo, first star was immediately, and this problem gone. EVERYBODY CHECK on AIR LEAK hot part turbo or around area!!!!!!!!!

    I know it sounds crazy but my 2018 Tiguan has a starting issue. Depressing the brake and pressing the Start/Stop button results in a strained, slow, laborious cranking. It will eventually start but it is labored.
    I have found that releasing the brake pedal a moment after i push the Start/Stop button somehow allows the engine to crank with enough power to start the engine with no effort and power right up. I don't proclaim to understand this at all but it works for me. Any ideas what is going on?
    Anyone?

    • @DrewGarage
      @DrewGarage  Před rokem

      @@eddyboh2723 no… modern vehicles don’t need to warm up like older vehicles. You should definitely let your car run for a couple minutes when it’s below freezing, but even if you don’t, as long as you don’t literally start it and then accelerate as fast as possible, it doesn’t make a difference. 50 years ago, when carburetors were standard, it was critical to warm up a car, but not as much anymore

    • @DrewGarage
      @DrewGarage  Před rokem

      Not sure about the ones that need the key to start - wouldn’t hurt to change your key fob battery if it’s weak, and also, see if it still cranks long if you put the key in the “on” position for maybe 5 seconds before you actually start it. The direct injected Jettas need the low pressure fuel pump to prime the hi pressure pump - it’s with the proximity of the key fob on the push button models but not sure on the key ones
