It isn't really scat as much as it is vocalizing, it's written and planned and doesn't play a rhythm role just a huge role in the tone

Tenacious Eva I was honestly so much serendipity -- the tempo and key aligned perfectly, the scene from PoD was already self-contained with a story arc as long as the song, and tons of other lucky little alignments -- that I started getting that nagging little voice in my head saying "maybe it was just a fluke, maybe it only worked because i got lucky." so i set out to make another one to prove that little voice wrong.
and holy shit i got no serendipity on Tenacious Eva II, it really took some doin to get it into this shape. i made liberal use of the phrase "wow i get nuthin for free huh??" over the past three months.
so i feel pretty confident in telling that little voice to fuck off.

The author (?) wrote up a document actually detailing what tracks he used an how much effort was involved which was.... a lot. Like a lot a lot. Not all of the tracks were in key, so he had to transpose them, just... a ton of work was done

I like this rewriting of Evangelion.
Jack Black and Kyle Gass impress Rei with their singing and rocking to the point that she mistakes them for angels and attacks, forcing them to fight back and kill Rei. Asuka and Shinji are sent to stop Tenacious D, but they rock too hard, creating a wormhole-like portal around Tokyo-3, which Asuka escapes but Shinji does not. Tenacious D plays their music for Shinji in their hell dimension for what feels like an eternity, causing him to go mad and initiate the third impact. Asuka manages to catch Jack Black's guitar in a massive kaiju battle, when it is revealed he has been rocking out on the Lance of Longinus this entire time. Using the lance, Asuka kills Lillith (who is taking the form of Jack Black) and halts the third impact, but she is too late to prevent humanity's fate. However, Lillith's falling body parts crush Tenacious D as they fall to earth, finally ending their song.
I like to think they are still alive, just hitchhiking down another long and lonesome road

First of all: this is one of the most glorious pieces of music conceived.
Second: Not sure if anyone else has said this, but this just proves that Tenacious D needs to do a symphony paired concert just like Metallica did.

OK the first one was a really great mashup and AMV, but this one now has me convinced that Jack Black/Tenacious D is canonically a part of the Evangelion universe. I can't wait for the next lore video. But of course, this is (not) the greatest mashup I've ever seen.

In my 10+ years of amvs going back to Linkin Park, mcr, and disturbed (and indeed, The D), this shit goes harder than anything in the history of ever. Insanely well made, friend.
I've liked amvs all my life, but this is where everything concludes.
Nothing else reaches this level, this is it's own thing.
This casually strolls past the stuff of 21 years and older ago too. From the Shiroi yami yoro-ka to the Evangelion Opus to the Parasite eve AMV and even strolling past some of the more well known DBZ ones. All of which were amvs I came of age watching.
This is definitely peak! However I wish other metal bands got more AMVs like Rotting Christ, Metallica, and others.

Aside from every other perfect decision made in the conception and execution of this paragon of artistic mashup expression, there are several parts of simply the audio where it makes the song feel complete. Best examples I can think of are of multiple instances of elective guitar and horns melding stunningly well and after “We are but men, ROCK” the horn progression as the guitar shreds and jack sings just culminates in what feels like the peak. That is Tribute completed. It is perfect.

- The most incredible, ingenious part of the video, in my opinion is in the mental attack/third impact trigger - In EoE, during third impact Misato, Rei and Asuka are represented by real human beings for a bit. As tenacious D are already shown in the video as themselves, you edited cartoon versions to contrast against their regular appearances. (200IQ edit, you're actually Einstein and I will pay you to make more).
- Asuka blocks the guitar/lance of longinus
- Changed the colour of Unit 01's hands to edit asuka grabbing the lance
- Changed the colour of Unit 00 to red to show asuka throwing the lance
