When it comes to Kaapi, KVN has the final say. None can render this raga more beautifully than him. Great Master.

KVN sir defines the contours of carnatic music.Even today he is considered as the king of Niraval. Each of his niraval phrases are unique and loaded with bhavam. I am yet to find some one who imbibes his soukiyam in every concert.

Beautiful is an understatement. Such a soulful and moving rendition of Kapi! Can someone tell me who the accompanying violinist was?

Kaapi is a popular ragam, a janya ragam of of 'Kharaharapriya'with a meandering vakra scale., typically performed at slow and medium speeds. It can induce moods of devotion, pathos and sadness among listeners. Kaapi is different from the Hindustani Ragam n the Kaffi Thaat. The equivalent ragam in Hindustani is Pilu, that is used in light classical songs/thumris. Kaapi is an audava-vakra sampoorna ragam with an ascending pentatonic scale and a descending scale with seven notes, but not in a descending order. Use of Kakali Nishadam and Anthara Gandharam (G3)make it a Bhashanga Ragam . presence of different Nishada swaras (N2 and N3) lends a distinctive quality to Kaapi, along with the fact that it uses a set of vakra swaras (N2 D2 N2). There is also a mild presence of shuddha daivatham (D1) that renders an invaluable feeling of devotion to the ragam. This, and the presence of G3 makes it difficult to pinpoint the exact nature of the 'avarohana' of the ragam.
I would say that this rendition by KVN is the best ever listened keerthanam in Kaapi Ragam., not negating the very high profile songs in it composed by Thyagarajaswamy himself and Muthuswami Dikshitar....(say....Venkatachalapate Ninu Nammiti ), Mysore Vasudevacharya ( ...Bhaja maadhavam anisham), Ambujam Krishna ( ..Aravinda Padamalar),Papanasam sivan (...Enna thavam seydanai Yashoda), Purandara dasa (..Jagadoddhārana Adisidaleshodaa )

Mellifluous as only KVN sir can! Equally excellent accompanists!
None can match his diction in any language (even non-native) he sings in while rendering perfect balance between swara and sahithya - a rarity.
What a treat! Thanks for sharing.
