    I am a composer and dobuble bass player myself, I am 53 years old, and after so many years working and teaching, I remain touched by listening to such a sensitive and intimate voice like the one you creates and shapes during your introspective playing . There is a sort of a veil between your playing and the listener, one subtle and fugacious veil, made of a fine melancholic texture. It is precious and magical, it makes your sound and expression arcane and elusive. My deepest respect Mikyung.

    I play cello and im currently playing this as my solo but hearing it in double bass sounds so much more emotional, in tears rn :’) very beautiful

      Mikyung is an exceptional musician regardless of instrument. She is one of the best instrumentalists in the world at expressing emotion through her playing!

    Beautiful tone, and expressive.
    (Also glad to see a version in D -- Koussevitzky's arrangement in A is too high!)

      Mikyung plays a 3/4 size 1951 Charles Quenoil bass with Spirocore Solo strings (or maybe she's switched to Bel Canto now, I'm not sure, haven't checked the colors lately), and uses Pops rosin. (I don't know anything about her bows though.)

    Beautiful eloquent bass playing. Some mistakes in the piano, which is often too loud - but that might be the recording....

    • @matthewv789
      @matthewv789 Před 3 lety +1

      The pianist is her mom (who was probably not paid for this, which was part of a 4-hour marathon livestream with various artists in Korean that not many people watched), but probably a bit embarrassed at being under-practiced for those arpeggios). Balance issues are common with the bass, which is the quietest of the major bowed string instruments (they get quieter and less projecting the lower the pitch).

    Lovely playing by Mikyung.
    It probably would have helped her Mother to know that this piece is a prayer of supplication that opens Yom Kippur, the holiest of all Jewish Holidays. With that in mind the interpretation might have been a bit more subdued in spots.

  • @racheloliver17
    @racheloliver17 Před 3 lety +2

    Lovely rendition of this cello piece and clean intonation, bravo :) Do NOT play w/this piano player "pianist"? anymore.

    • @matthewv789
      @matthewv789 Před 3 lety +2

      It's her mom, who was probably under-practiced and also probably unpaid for this particular livestream (which was a four-hour marathon "against Coronavirus" livestream with various artists entirely in Korean), which took place during the rise of the pandemic. Mikyung often works with other accompanists of very good quality though.

  • @racheloliver17

    Piano is too loud.

    • @matthewv789
      @matthewv789 Před 3 lety +1

      A common problem with the double bass, which is the quietest and least projecting of the main bowed string instruments (which get quieter as they get lower).

    Brilliant sensitive performance , but piano too loud and overpowering, wrong note as well......
