Sight In Your Crossbow with ONE SHOT

  • Here's an EASY way to sight your crossbow in with just ONE SHOT! Now, the one arrow sight in process does require something to lock/hold your crossbow in place (lead sled, Bog Deathgrip Tripod, maybe shot bags and a trusted friend). Whatever you use, this sight in method can save you a lot of time when doing your initial sight in process. And...I need to do this myself after putting a Killer Instinct LUMIX 4x32 IR-E on my Vital X. This process works for me, hope it works for you! Enjoy!

I've got the Killer Instinct with the speed ring on my Barnett TS390 and I love it. I bought a BOG Tripod for Coyote hunting. I used it when checking my zero and it worked great when everything was tightened down. I'll stay with it instead of a gun vise so I don't have to carry a seat and table for it. Thanks for a great video.

Great video Matt! I've heard that gunsmiths have been using this technique to sight in rifles for years now. And it works great. Next year when my budget improves I need to get a set of those Phoenix Sirrus bolts. Hope you're Lyme's treatments are going well!

Been doing this for years with both crossbows and Rifles.
With non speed adjustable scopes usually the reticles are in 10 yard increments but that’s only for a certain weight arrow shooting at a certain speed. A lot of times people get lucky where they all fall into place at 10 yard increments.
And other times they don’t. That’s why I only use scopes with adjustable speed rings on my crossbows or I will use a single crosshair with an illuminated dot in the middle with an HHA Crossbow Speed Dial.

I just use a vortex strike fire 2 red dot for hunting. All my shots will be 25yrds and under. I set up my stands that way. Basically it’s a single pin, nothing confusing,no magnification set up. Like my vertical bow was-single pin- 25yrds and under it’s deadly accurate!

can also calibrate speed rings in 1 shot. once your center crosshair is sighted in, put the target 20 yds farther and put a sticker very high on the target so you can aim with center dot on that high sticker but the real distance dot is on the target still. then shoot aiming center on the high sticker. then just turn the speed ring till center is on sticker and real distance dot is on the arrow at the same time.
this one doesnt need leadsled or anything all that matters is the space between the sticker and the arrow which isnt effected by the bow moving

I use a Lazer boresighter in a bolt that doesn't have a end in it and side it under the string until it clicks the safety on my lead sled and it does pretty good. I just did my Boss 405 in 4 shots . I just have to find tune it.
And now I guess I need to nock tune also thanks to you lol

If there is some way to hold the bow still ( with small bungees maybe?) …..Will something like a Bog field pod that holds both the butt stock and forgrip of the bow work? I’m trying to eliminate bringing the table, sandbags and all the other stuff for sighting in out to my target. I was thinking of getting the Bog Pod but was looking for something lighter to carry…so after seeing your video I’m glad I held off. My Dad use to sight in our rifles this way. My job was to turn the turrets as he held the gun on the sandbags and watched through the scope. Thanks for the great video.

I think grouping has its place not all arrows fly the same and so it is important to sight in for the group. I do not think the 1 shot method is great especially for hunting animals, animals deserve the best we can do. Just my opinion. However much easier without the speed ring but i think more than 1 is necessary.
    Good video none the less.

    • @draggindeeroutdoors

More than one shot is necessary to verify all your effective shooting distances, absolutely. But, the majority of your scope adjustments can be done based off one shot.

Yeah, that’s what many of us do with rifles and crossbows. That’s just an in for my question-….watching you and the fairies, haha videos what would all of you consider a very fast heavy “short 470gr 18 inch arrow at about 470fps” an adult arrow?.
R500 new “Gas”string and cables, cut down stock arrows ,paper tuned and now waiting for my Magnus killer bee heads to arrive. With my build system I will have about 20% F.O.C. Should I pursue this or not even try?!?! Any advice from anyone would be appreciated

    • @chrisruzsa2798
      @chrisruzsa2798 Před 10 měsíci

My personal opinion is this. Yeah you will pass through with this no matter what you hit.
You got a very powerful weapon though that is going to leave a tremendous amount of unspent energy going back into the bow.
This is going to cause problems its just a matter of when. You can up that weight so much more absorbing more energy into the projectile doing more overall.
I would slow that sucker down to a 350 fps or so and not care about the heads lol. Seriously thats what i would do. Now you can even shoot it too because less energy is going back causing damage.

Thanks for the response! I have been shooting a bow ever since I made my first one in 1971 out of a willow branch. Never was a big fan of x-bows for hunting but after surgery on both shoulders my compound became “wall art “
Decided to go all out on the x-bows and unfortunately mechanical heads. Chose the 150 Swhacker mainly because it gets inside before opening. At 56yrs old now I want to get back to fixed cut on contact heads! Watching all these videos and tv show with basically 0 pass throughs was killing me!! I was shooting a 27 draw length 68lb single cam for the last upteen years and never did not get a pass through-125gr fixed head. Yes I always touched up the blades. I’m just sickened by the deers reaction to the “wack”! With fixed heads most deer leaped 2-3 times and just looked around for a little bit, then tipped over dead. Not a clue that they were shot. To me that’s the most humane way to hunt deer!! Thanks again for your reply- good luck this year!

@@MichaelLakota-vc4tk a lot of this is improper setups.
I use an 200 lb excalibur eclipse xt
My manufacturer says 350 graims okay to use through serious testing with all shafts and bolts various targets ect ect ect i will tell you with full confidence there is no way crossbows are okay shooting light arrows. I can’t go less than 500 grains i am at 565 with 16% or so of foc with swahackers i will pass through any and every animal i hunt.
      Not worried.
Both have their ups and down sides unfortunately the debate is very backwards you want light and fast you need fixed you go heavy you can have bigger cuts this is because momentum is sucked up on opening of mechanicals.
Fixed is already deployed they do not need more momentum.
I love all archery and got into crossbows because i thought it would be easier and i didn’t want a shop again to work on things unfortunately that was not the case and now i have more jigs and crap for my crossbow than i ever did for vertical.

@@chrisruzsa2798 I hear you bud! lol my place is swamped with all kinds of stuff also. As far as arrow weight goes I’m already 70gr heavier than the factory ones. I’m just trying to add more weight to soak up some energy and slow it down so I can use fixed heads. Them swhackers are crazy powerful. I have blown through both shoulders of a big 10point and the arrow was buried a good 6 inches in the ground 10yards past the deer! He literally just dropped dead. It was only a 23yrd shot. I just don’t like the fierce nature and destruction of mechanicals I miss the sweet slip through the animal where it is more on edge from the sound of the bow and hasn’t even a clue that a cut on contact head just slipped right through it and he’s standing there looking around not even knowing he’s already dead. Plus I do love tinkering. If it’s not broke I want to make it better. lol it’s a cruel joke that has cursed me my whole life lol
