Rumor has it that after this epic game, Greg was seen in his backyard in the rain catching raindrops for hours, leaving his yard dry as a bone.
🤣 🤣 🤣
almost forgot. my name is robert. if they ever have a kaboom video game tournament, you should enter it. you will win without a doubt.
Lol
Haha
Imagine if Activision sent you a patch after making this video
Or blew your house up
After he finished playing his eyes were probably still darting from side to side until the next day.
Haha yeah everything he looked at had to be all distorted like a super good acid trip.
Mine are doing it and I’m not even playing 😅😂🤣😂🤪
whole week
:P
@@jdsjr21 hahahahah
Do you realize this is insane?
I can't even get that far!
Literally what I just said at even just like 10,000 pts before looking down at the comments. I can't even earn the patch (at a score of 3K).
This is THE most remarkable achievement I’ve seen on a 2600 game. I can’t believe what I just saw. Absolutely incredible man!
This was my favorite Atari game. A zen-like experience. Just listening to this takes me back. It never occurred to me that it was possible to survive for 3 hours straight!
Definitely one of my favorites as well. Once you get into that zen-like mode, you're taken back to 1982.
3:18:15 Kill Screen Coming Up!!!
Magnificent, ain’t it?
Holy shit man! Youre insane. You definitely deserve the Activision bucket brigade patch!
LOL! I guess he can say he beat the game..
I always try to beat games to perfection before I say that I have "truly" beaten them.
And if any part forces me to make a mutually exclusive choice, then I will beat the game several times and make different choices each time, like for example choosing between the Ragnarok Esper and the Ragnarok sword in "Final Fantasy 6", and so on, and make separate files for each choice. =P
What a...
BLAST
@@Peter_1986 I was like that too but I managed to get over it (I have OCD).
Knowing that someone somewhere actually achieved this makes me happy in a strange way. :D Insane, awesome video!
Dude. Not only can I hear you stress the hand cramps, I almost feel your pain. 3 1/2 hours for this is insane. I do rather well in this, certainly not at your level. All i know is peripheral vision takes over and you just go. Good job. I learned that the real challenge is just enduring this shit.
What You are doing here doesn't even seem humanly possible! I'm beyond impressed!!!
I imagine that the creators of this game never in their wildest dreams anticipated someone being able to play it like this!! My mind is still smoking from when it was just absolutely blown!!!
This goes to show new games ant got noughting on old school... Lol
3:17:23 Cops: "Face it, Mugsy, you're beaten! Come off that wall with your hands up! It's back to the big house for you!"
HAHAHAHAHA! HILARIOUS! :D
jonathyn blythe that's t!
Wow. This game made me piss myself laughing when I was younger. Just watching my cousins try and beat this game and the incredible speed of the game makes all the games of today seem like a walk in the park.
Yep, the real fun begins on level 4. The first 3 levels are just practice rounds.
You, my friend are the kaboom master of disaster!!! The hands & eye cordnaiton it takes to bust this game has finally been done.. Gladly I stopped by to see this for my own eyes.. Congrats and I am so amazed. I played as a young boy and watching my order uncle play for hours.. He was gteat but you are the greatest kaboomer stopper I've ever seen.. Thanks for the show.. Alsome!!!!
Take that mad bomber!
You are a machine! This was a game I could only stand to play for like 10 or 15 minutes at a time "back in the day" (as a little kid of 9 or 10). Not because I didn't like it, but it required so much intense focus for such a long time.
Good job!
Let me guess, the official record holder is still Todd Rogers with a score of 15 million...
Kaboom kill screen achievement unlocked. Congrats to you sir for destroying a game from my childhood. This was one of my Mom's favorite games for the 2600 and I used to watch her play it for what seemed like hours. Without seeing the video just the sounds bring back the memories. Thanks for posting this.
Yes, this games does bring back good memories from the 80's
I remember getting the high score record back in the 80's from this game...my favorite game. I had to take a picture of the score on the TV and mail it in. After two months, they sent me a certificate, a few new games, and a patch. This brings back memories...we should have an online Kaboom Tournament...
True
Watching this just took me back to when i was little boy (I'm now 42) I can remember playing this game with my father and he achieved a high score, so he took a picture of the television screen,so I could receive membership in the Activision Bucket Brigade and a Bucket Brigade patch
I can generally get to 50-60k, but I just can't marathon it. Congrats, this is one hell of a game to keep full concentration on, for this long.
Legend has it his eyes are still darting back and forth.
This is amazing. Thank you for posting. I loved this game, and this is so nostalgic.
3 hours? God almighty that's impressive. Imagine trying to beat this score, i could never
Amazing. I'm not sure if modern systems are capable of something like this, due to input delay.
My best was like 100k plus. But that almost gave me an aneurism! This is super impressive.
My brothers and I played this for months. Carefully memorizing the pattern for each level trying to get just a little farther. We never got to 100k.
One day Mom sat down, played a couple games to get the hang of the controller, and then ran up 150k points.
I traded it to a friend for one of his games the next day.
dude, you are so Zen, you're like Neo in the Matrix
("there is no spoon")
I wonder how the criminal’s arm felt after throwing 999,999 grenades
like nolan ryans after a no hitter
Doooood! I feel like I just went back and played my favorite game of all time! Your incredible. Thank you!
Absolute Madness. Thats insanity. Love this game, my eyes are tearing just watching. I can't even watch this without looking away. My eyes are going crossed.
Holy shit
Wow Wow Wow....You are The MASTER!!!!
I never could pass over 5000.
Congratulations :-)
Amazing, when had this game in the 80s it sent my eyes funny after playing the game for a while and when I looked at the sofa chair it would seem to be moving, but just an illusion.
I was a HUGE fan of Kaboom, this is absolutely amazing! You need to purchase one of those patches they used to send out when you passed a certain score! They are on ebay!
I have the original patch they sent me in 1982.
@@gregdeggames646 That is incredible! I had the one for Laser Blast, I wish I still had it!
If only the War on Terror was this effective at stopping terrorism.
I have that game on my PlayStation 2 in a compilation called ACTIVISION ANTHOLOGY. A legendary classic! 😺👍🕹️
Respect. I thought I used to be good at this game. I'm in awe of your skills and patience... and bladder control for over three hours! ;-)
Thanks! This is 30+ years of practice. I never thought of bladder control as a skill. :)
DAMN dude is killing it with one cup, pausing it wasn’t even an option. Somebody make this guys phone ring to end the madness
I wonder if guitar hero took inspiration from this. Great job. Watching this made dizzy, so I can only imagine how you felt.
I also caught the Guitar Hero similarities. This seems like a pretty cool game.
I was thinking the same thing too!
Dillon Aubin Dude I thought I was an idiot for thinking this should be a rhythm game instead.
Well it is Activision afterall the
Same company that made guitarhero
This is insane...just 'wow'...how is the focus and speed able to be done for THAT LOOOONG
tantric kabooming
knowing from playing that game and have gotten about 100000 myself,, using those paddles,, your arms , wrists , shoulders ,hands , elbows,, and your eyes and brain mustve seriously been hurting for days
LOVED THIS back in the day........GOTTA find that box in storage CONGRADS !!!
Thanks! This game never gets old.
Epic-level incredible! Puts my all-time high score (120,180) to shame. I LOVED this game!
Now I want to find a copy and brush the cobwebs off my reflexes.
Well done, sir! :)
Killscreen @ 3:17:22
Respect to you, O Grand Master of the Bucket Brigade.
Thanks Ron! :)
YOU ARE A LEGEND!
How did I not come across this 8 years ago. LEGEND
Well done! This and Night Driver had that zen mode you could get into where the game just flowed.
This game is absolutely MENTAL. I’m dying to try it.
One of the greatest games of all time IMO, yet not remembered as fondly as it deserves.
One of the greatest games of all time... I think so too.
I would love to know your method to the mastery of Kaboom! I find I have played best when I become what I call 'mechanically intertwined' with the game. It's a difficult state to describe, the focus becoming so intense that it feels as though the game is playing itself and I am just a peripheral plugged into the system, almost hypnotized by it. To me Kaboom! epitomizes this type of gameplay and encourages it.
Getting in "The Zone" as I like to call it. It's like someone else is playing and you're just there to watch. Anyone can do it... just takes practice.
Right on man! This takes me back to flipping the score board in the 80s. That's what it was about spending all Day one one game. Congratulations bro!
To say that's impressive is a huge understatement. I played this as a kid and never got much beyond 10,000 points
I imagine if, after beating the game, you realize that, for some reason, the game was not recorded
My high score is only 1500, lol. I am astonished at your score. What controller were you using? Standard Y'd together paddles? Singles? Newer?
Simply amazing. I think I got up to about 20,000 and I was doing the point-counting, bomb-dropping method. Clearly such tactics are beneath you!
I thought I'd search for Kaboom right now because Rachel Maddow mentioned it on her show today and she even cut away to footage of the game (5200 version though).
Any plans for Breakout in the future? Not to toot my own horn here, but right now I'm the king of that game on CZcams, unless there's _another_ all-clear, TV-recorded video I'm not seeing.
Check out twingalaxies.com and show off your Breakout skills. That's one game I never had the skills for.
This is a leaked footage of King from One Punch Man playing Kaboom for the first time.
I beat the game when I was a kid and you had to send a pic of the score and then they would send you an Atari Jacket, I got the jacket no clue where it is now but I remember this so well.
This guy's the freakin' Flash.
When I was a kid I beat Lazer Blast, but that game is a million times easier than Kaboom. IIRC I could barely get 10000. No one I knew was good at it. I was convinced that no one could actually play this game at it's fastest speed, but now decades later I'm happy to see that I was wrong. :-D
Damn, those are some mad paddle skills! I was just excited when I got 3,000 points and could send in a photo of the score to join the Bucket Brigade.
After reaching the required score, did any of you take a photograph of your television screen showing the score and send the picture to Activision headquarters to receive a merit patch?
This game would make people deep breathe like that. No other game ever could do that.
If I remember correctly, Atari 2600 had a separate Roller Twist Controller for Kaboom. These modern controllers wouldn't work at those speeds necessary.
Activision needs to send you ALL the patches for that performance. Outstanding.
Whoa! Best score i've ever seen in kaboom. Way to go!
We used to play this for hours with my brother and friends, we would stop when dinner was ready
Okay come on now... did you somehow managed to train a squirrel, or perhaps even a cat to play this game? I thoroughly enjoyed watching this...Unbelievable, well done sir!!!
Great stuff. This game takes nerves of steel as you are always seconds away from a game over. Plenty of clutch moments after losing that bottom bucket. Is there a record for diff A?
Mr. Greg Degeneffe, you are awesome. And insane.
ive played this game my entire life. i was born in 81, and my sister is the only person i had ever seen "beat" kaboom. good on ya. but your nuts for playing that for 3 + hours
Oh my God it's Jason Borne!
Awesome!
I killed it on diff. A, back in '82 but I ve forgotten the details of the moment at this point. Super impressive game play, and patience to you and your incredible recorded game.
This has been my favorite 2600 game for a long time... just wow.
A hearty congratulations to you, man!!
I wish I had the atari version. The PS1 version from Activision Classics is IMPOSSIBLE. The D-Pad will not move the pools fast enough and boy, does it make your thumb hurt... Amazing gameplay btw!
Nathan Wygal The Activision anthology on Phone has a bunch of Activision classics, and since you use your finger, you can emulate the speed of the paddle controllers on the Atari
This man is obviously a Jedi....
you are a master of this game. well done. how do you play kaboom? i remember playing this decades ago.
Wow. I played this game a lot as a kid (I'm 45 now) but never came close to this score!
I turned over Kaboom long ago when it came out. I was just good at it. I wasn’t great at most other games. That was 40ish years ago. 😀 congrats though. 🎉
I love Kaboom! One of my favorites when I had the Atari 2600. I need to get the Mame paddles that have it, so I can play it again. lol
after an hour the game just turns into a fucking bullet-hell.
Man, I can hear your breath. Really it's insane whay you did. Congratulations.
My son woulsnt stop cussing at his PC while playing a game, so I had to show him the game that caused his dad to cuss at quite a bit.
Notice that when you hit 10,000 the burglar's face changes from a frown to more like an open mouth (he's impressed with you). I guess the game freezes at 999,999 because the programmer (Larry Kaplan) never thought in a million years that anyone would ever be able to get that score and so didn't program a way to handle it.
This is some serious eyes and hands coordination.
How many years must have went by before you got this good? My god man!
Only needed a month of practice. I was able to do this back in 1982 and again in 2015.
i loved activision games in the 80s you could take a picture on different games if you reached a certain score, and mail it in and they would send you a patch,, i had a whole box of them,, wish i couldve kept them but i was like 12 now im 54 LOL
I'm crying laughing because my dad could not get past the first wave of bombs back when we had this as a kid. I would laugh so hard trying to watch him play.
I got carpal tunnel syndrome just from watching this.
Congrats on the score max, I thought for sure you would be using the trick with Round 7 to cheese your way there! (Does TG ban that tactic?)
BTW, for those looking for the "shocked bomber" expression (which was mentioned in the original manual), he first appears about 2:45 in.
Gordon Taylor Thanks Gordon... The round 7 tactic is allowed by Twin Galaxies, but it would take you a very long time to max the game out. The "o" expression happens after 10,000 points.
+GregDeg Games Does it really freeze at 999,999? My uncle claimed to get 1,530,000 on this game. I figured he was lying since he said it only took him 1 1/2 hours.
+t687m 999,999 is the max score. I was able to complete the game in 2 hours and 55 minutes back in 1982. Show your uncle this video and see if he changes his story.
+GregDeg Games I figured that it would take at least 2 1/2 hours to get 999,999 even if you never missed a bomb and played continuously with no pausing in between bomb groups. so I knew he was lying anyway.
I just scored about 7000 on this and wanted to see if it was any good....nope I'm shit..lol..💩💩
I used to love this game. I was never this good but I read the technique to score this High was to watch only the bomber and trace his movements. You couldn’t do it at top speed by watching the bombs
I actually did this once in 1982, we took a picture with a polaroid but the flash wiped out the TV screen, and it took us weeks to figure out we didn't get the picture, because we sent them away to be developed LOL
so word of mouth only I guessssss!
I dont think I will ever get that high ! 50,000 or better for me !
Your brain somehow is able to wave with those bombs and you can keep up somehow. Then your real world mind catches up and goes, "This is Insane!" and you second guess yourself and miss a bomb. I wonder if being able to do this in older age could lead to reduction in Parkinson's disease as it requires your brain to operate on a faster frequency. Amazing!
My hand-eye coordination still works... even in my 50's
And I thought I was the only one who could do that.
Nicely done. Is there a world record on the other difficulty? I believe you can shrink the water containers.
Wow, that’s sick, thanks for sharing!
