Australia needs to focus on the following 1. Not reduce but remove cash transactions
    2. Principal homes of Australians should be charged
    lower interest rate
    3. Start refining your own fuel
    4. Figure out steps to reduce imports in the long term
    5. Control immigration to get only quality manpower and not quantity.

Yeah I also love the misconception that people think Canberra is cheaper than the other major cities, they just assume since it's 1/10th the size, the cost of living must naturally be lower.
However, real estate in general is around the same overall price (sometimes higher, sometimes lower) - the pinnacle places to live are cheaper in Canberra ($5mil+), but that's obvious since it has less very high-end living (not really high end, just if u wanna live right on Pitt street what do you expect). For the average person, Canberra house/rent pricing is the same, the cheap end of the market I think may even be more expensive. Food is more expensive by far, activities are more expensive, fuel and transport is MUCH more expensive.

Cairns hinterland is totally wonderful. Elevated, so cooler and less humid in Summer (except Kuranda, in the rainforest, which is cooler but more humid), not too cold in Winter - average daytime temp around 25 degrees C, within an hour from Cairns and Port Douglas, and Cairns' international airport. The Great Barrier Reef and brilliant tourism facilities and services are all in reach.
Land on the Atherton tablelands, given it's proximity to a city like Cairns, is a fraction of the price, of the other 9 locations mentioned.

I've travelled to many countries-a few may equal Australia, but, all things considered, nowhere I've been is better. It's now over 26 million people-and that's plenty for making acquaintances, having fun times with lots of friends etc, wherever you go. So most of Australia's population can and do generally ignore the desert, and make the most of their lives and activities on that 2,500 mile habitable stretch extending perhaps between 10-100 miles inland along much of the eastern coast. Interesting. So did I. Lived there for 5 years total, but left for Canada in 1990 instead. They were racist and just not accommodating at the time. This was before the internet existed. I allowed my permanent resident status to expire. Went back to visit in 2010, and people were still rude, asking me why I was taking pictures, or flipping middle finger while driving past honking. The epitome of horror was when I tried to take a picture of a flock of Cockatoos on the roadway outside Bendigo, and a car drove right through the flock of birds, killing about 13 of them, right in front of me. I have no regrets having made Canada my home country.

As an American expat who lived in Australia for 23 years, this video is an accurate assessment of the cities described. However, climate is overlooked. Each city has its own distinct weather. Brisbane (Brissy) is hot and humid for six months of the year. Sydney's summer is also hot and humid. The ACT is a dry heat (think California) during the summer months. Melbourne and Adalaide are known for heat waves in summer. Hobart, I think, is ideal - four distinct seasons. Australia is an ideal place to raise a family. Generally, the pace of life is a bit slower than the US and allows one to 'breath' psychologically and spiritually. I loved living there and hope to return. Good luck.

    My opinions-
    10. Cairns is wayyyyy to hot, steamy and generally sweat-inducing all year round. Don't live there.
    9. Gold Coast is the same as Cairns, although to a lesser extent. And there are too many tourists, it's only good to go for a holiday.
    8. Canberra is tiny compared to other large cities, and is too isolated, completely surrounded by mountains. You might feel lonely.
    7. Hobart is always cold and rainy, and is COMPLETELY isolated. Would NOT recommend.
    6. Wollongong is not actually a bad city, I went there and it's pretty good to live there.
    5. Brisbane is the same as Gold Coast, although with less tourists.
    4. Perth- one side surrounded by thousands of kilometers of barren desert, and the other surrounded by thousands of kilometers of ocean. Too isolated, much rather live on the eastern side of the continent than on the western side. Perth is one little speck in uninhabitable wilderness.
    3. Adelaide has no skyscrapers, does not seem like a large, booming metropolis, however is a good city to live in if you don't want TOO much people and crowdedness and still want to live in a 1M+ city.
    2. Sydney is a large city and has great beaches and weather, would recommend to visit.
    1. Melbourne has been ranked as the most liveable city in the world, and has skyscrapers and a large suburban area too. The only shitty thing about this place is the weather. One second you're getting sunburnt in the raging heat and the next you need your jacket for the extreme cold. (BTW I live here)
