Israel, a student at my sons recital played it and while I admittedly didn't recognize the composers name, when she hit the first two notes, I immediately remembered my Mom playing this as a warm up piece when she played. She just passed this year and left behind an incredible music and piano legacy with me, my brother, our children and many other students she had over 30 years of teaching. I love this piece. The only one (other than you tube today) who I’ve ever heard play this is my mom. I always thought it was a Filipino thing, as I grew up listening to it in the Philippines in the 1960s and never heard it anywhere else. My mom is now 87 and can’t play it anymore, so she will be thrilled when she sees this and listens to it. Thank you for sharing!!

I know this piece when I was in elementary school, I read a novelette that has same name as this piece but in my language. The story is about a young girl, she lived with her mom which was a tourism translator, she had good English .Her dad was never mentioned in her home. Her mom said her dad was working oversea. Everyday she enjoy her daily life, even her family is not really rich. Like her mom she was good English too, she liked playing piano because her mother's house got one she used to play it when she was young, when her family still have not enough money to buy she one, she made a paper piano, she enjoy playing the paper piano when she have time. After her mom have enough money to buy an old one, she was really happy, she practice whenever she have time. Once day when she was playing " A maiden prayer" at her home, a man appeared. He was her father,somehow she knew that. Her father and she talk English, he also ask her to play piano. It was late and he got to return to hotel. Tomorrow he took her to school, her friends is suprise about that, after school he took her to bookstore told her that she can buy any books she want, afternoon she got to school again she gave book to her best friend. At the evening her father took her to a restaurant, her mother is still angry at her mom, her father was a son of rich family, after his graduation he worked as doctor in a oversea hospital, her mother was a poor child, she got adopted to a rich family. Her parents loved and got married, soon after that her father got to work oversea, her mom was bearing her at that time. Anyway they made it up, her family lived happy ever after.
