I think this is about style and preferences, people like different things in music. There's something that some Musicians prefer to do and it is making Bittersweet music, that means this type of songs like Believe from Cher, are songs with a happy tune and sad lyrics. Exist bittersweet songs like Supercut from Lorde, it's not living (if it's not with you) by The 1975, a lot of songs from the Scottish band CHVRCHES are bittersweet like The Mother We Share or Graffity for Example, the music of Kygo is bittersweet like It Ain't Me with Selena Gomez. I know the ironic fact is that these songs are Dance Music: Synth Pop, New Wave, EDM, Alternative Rock, etc. Cher makes some Dance stuff. If you check the songs I mentioned, you will notice what I'm saying. And I notice that the acoustic versions that are piano ballads like Ella Henderson makes here, transmit a lot of emotions, I enjoy dance electronic music as I can enjoy acoustic classical music.
What's interesting about this is that, while the original was one of the first auto-tune vocals, Ella Henderson achieves the same effects without the digital production.
With all due respect to the other competitors including the winner on X Factor, I think Ella was in a different class. And I think long after the others have been forgotten she will still be right up there. Not only does she have an amazing voice, but also great presence on stage. And I really think the singing world is hers for the taking with the talent she possesses.

Ella is a diamond amongst the stars. Its not just her voice. Its the way she puts the lyrics across, it really hits you smack on. What really got to me was how that song could be that great but in the end she steps back fiddling her dress like a shy insecure girl. So lovely and down to earth. What a gifted young woman!

Her career spanned more than 40 years for a reason. Yes, Ella's version is beautiful and she has a fantastic voice that transmits so much emotion....but that's no reason to bring Cher down, or invent cheap lies like "the song was doomed".

This young lady not only has the pipes, she seems to be able to transfer her emotion to the crowd through her voice.
