Lipos make consistent power till it hits cut off while nimh batteries cause you to start dropping power and speed from the start. Eg: it will never run as fast as it did 2 minute earlier. As it drains.

Have fun with the R/C My kid has an older model and has broke parts a few times, at my local hobby shop the parts weren't that expensive (and I'm cheap) These cars are well made and actually kinda fun to repair! Do read all of the details about the batteries, recharging, cooling and such. To make the last longer
lacenter645 we are sticking to Nimh batteries to keep life simple and reliable and safe. We now have 3 cars so I have become known at the local hobby store since we have been breaking suspension parts doing jumps and crashing into each other. Lol
Here is a cool thing we do here at Everything RC'Z ! We take off the stock body we then Ethier get a pre painted body or we get a clear body throw some paint at it then BOOM !CRASH SHELL! So take off the stock body when bashing or cruzzing and when your done you put the factory shell on it when not in use and your ride can stay new looking for a long time! We have done this since we got into the hobby , and our first gen X maxxs look like brand new and people go so farr as to ask why we never use our RC cars and we reply we do they have a ton of miles it with this trick they stay fresh longer! Hahaha keep them throttles pegged!

@mixflip - be sure to replace any broken parts with RPM parts - they are virtually bullet proof - also, check out fast eddy sealed bearings and yeah - the esc is lipo 2s compatible out of the box - deff worth it to switch - check out HRB 2S 7.4V 6000MAH 60C Hard Case RC Lipo Battery with Traxxas plug cheap - under 40 and a decent charger like the Tenergy TB6-B Balance Charger Discharger (you'll have to get a separate traxxas charging lead) total less than 100 bux
Get a castle creations sidewinder 3 7700kv and get a 2s Lipo or a 3s your choice and change the gearing to a 86T spur and maybe a 18T pinion.Then that rc will be really fast lol.I did all of that to my slash 2wd but I put in the sv3 sct and it's really fast.I am really close to hitting 65mph.I have a 22T pinion I think and it makes my slash go out of control lol.Thats a suggestion once he's ready

Rustler is a good truck! I wouldn't worry about the small rollovers. It's once he runs into trees that you'll have to worry about it.

I have a rusler and i have 7 cell battery with 37 dollar tires with no spoiler because it breaks a lot i would recemend getting a nother spoiler

just so you know you can repair them you can buy all the parts thats why they are more expensive than normal rcs

My Vxl rustler goes 105.3 mph with motor mods, 3 cell lipo battery and I think 31/76 gear ratio, thing ripps ass!
I have the same mods and gearing on my Bandit vxl. I clocked it at 87mph. I doubt your breaking 100mph.
