- This video turns out to be more special than we imagine! We shop and tour an antique mall with a viewer friend who shows us some cool antiques and vintage, helps us interpret what we're seeing, and leads us to some real bargains we can buy to pass on to our collectors.
A lot of true antiques and singular vintage items made it to Knoxville, Tennessee, both before and after the 1982 World's Fair brought interesting things from all over the world to this mountain tourist destination. Such a variety here!-an art deco dining table from the Panamanian Consulate, colorful 1960s glass from Morgantown and L.E. Smith (and Italian fish that has to go home with me), a rope crib made for twins...plus a ton of fun vintage and antique collector items to suit many tastes!
Beyond the shopping tour, our friend gives us great tips on how to identify the better items in the big case of turquoise jewelry, explains how a shelf unit turns into a staircase and shows us how this Chinese piece folds out in to an amazing bar! We see original multi-media art, put aside a good art glass paperweight and revel in the fun that we share when knowledgable vintage fans gather to share stories! We're so grateful we had this chance to meet and see such a fun antique and vintage variety.

Deepest sympathy to the family of Daniel. May he rest in peace. Wise words, George Thank you. May God bless us, every one! 🕊
Yes and thank you so much
So sorry I didn't see he had passed
I own an antique shop right down from West End Antiques. We just opened last year. Daniel came to my shop a few times and every time we talked for about an hour. He was always kind and informative. I was just thinking the other day I hadn't seen him in a while. I had no idea he passed. Daniel actually told me he'd been asking you to come to Knoxville, so I'm sure he was really happy you did a video here. Thanks George for all the knowledge you and people like Daniel have shared. As a younger person starting out, it's much appreciated.
He was kind and informative to me and our whole antique community as well! He mentioned there were some good other shops in Knoxville, I'll have to come back to see more. I am so happy I got to do this and share his knowledge while there was time.
@TheAntiqueNomad We would love to have you at our shop if you do come back. There are a lot of shops close together in our area. Knoxville is a great area for picking. My husband and I are nurses by trade, and we've been kindly welcomed by other dealers we've met. I'm glad you got to meet Daniel.
@@katiejordan5643 I’m definitely planning to come back and visit!
@@TheAntiqueNomad That's great. We are Lolli and Pop Antiques.
Oh he was so knowledgable. I am so glad you got to visit him.
Yes 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼RIP
Such a sad reminder that we never know what the next day will bring. So glad you took the time to meet him and share this video along with his expertise with all of us.
So glad I could indeed
He was so knowledgeable . I agree with your sentiment. Those who love him will forever cherish this video as one where he was shown in his kindness and intelligence.
I’m so glad we got to share him once more
Thank you George for reminding all of us how important it is to let everyone we love how important and special they are while we can ❣️
Yes, please do it!
Oh, that is so tragic that he passed away! I so enjoyed hearing all of his amazing knowledge. You can't put a price on that kind of knowledge when it is forever gone. Such a loss. May he rest eternally in the arms of the angels. Speaking of someone with tremendous knowledge -- George, I hope you are taking good care of yourself.
I’m trying harder, it’s a good wake up for us all
George, what a fine video. The way you walked around with Daniel and talked back-and- forth about the items was so interesting and entertaining. I always learn so much from your videos. Tjs one was exceptional. I thought to myself. I wonder if I could make it to Knoxville in one day from Detroit? There was so much loveliness and fun there in that antique store.
And to Daniel Claeys family and friends, my condolences to you all. I never met him but I did enjoy reading his comments on George's videos. His responses were polite and friendly, enthusiastic and infomative. He will be greatly and deeply missed.
Most sincerely from
The Great Lake State of Michigan 🐢
Thank you, Sister! I’m so glad you got to go with us one more time
RIP Daniel. What a multi faceted man. So much knowledge and talent.
Truly so
Thank you for being a kind gentleman. I’m sorry for the loss. 🙏✝️
Thank you too!
I am so sorry for the family members who lost their loved one. I had enjoyed him so much during the video and felt like I wanted to meet him because he studied art as well as myself. I was shocked at it sudden passing. My prayers go out for his family! I miss the live feed last night because of back surgery yesterday morning but I sure enjoyed the show with breakfast this morning. His store is so beautiful!!!! I would love to go there. I hope his family keeps it going!
Hello! I hope your surgery went well and you are recovering nicely. I know other artists in our community have a feeling of kindredness, and it was very sad to lose his talent. I trust they will keep on with the shop and will help his family with everything.
Oh my gosh, what a terrible shock. RIP Daniel. I pray for comforting thoughts and peace for Daniel's family and friends.
What a fantastic shop and collection he had. George i am so sorry for the loss of your friend. It is a true blessing that sent you his way. You were meant to meet.
❤❤❤😊
I agree that it was fated that we met while we could, and I'm very grateful for it!
It's lovely that you captured Daniel, his loved ones now have that.
Also, I loved what you said st the end, it was beautiful.
Oh thank you, I just said what I was feeling and thinking. I'm happy that I got to capture him one last time for posterity

On equal grounds during this video. Thank you for sharing this experience with us❤

Yes it is, I'm trying to be more present in each moment and with everyone I meet!
May the angels lead him to Paradise! He seemed like a really good person.
My condolences to you and his family. I learned a lot from him in just this one video. What a service to mankind he was. ♥️
So sad and tragic, terrible loss to everyone!! Daniel was extremely talented and knowledgeable- super glad you made this video and shared it. Thank you!!!
I feel fortunate that I got to do this while there was time!
I was just about to comment on Daniel's wealth of knowledge when you announced his tragic passing. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends. 😢
Hi George, thank you, his shop is marvelous. So glad you took us with you to see everything
Breaks my heart. I loved his art. I loved you two together. I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. I know you will cherish the time you had together. Lots of love to you and Daniel's family and friends. ❤😢❤
I do and thank you
Deepest sympathy to Daniel's family. What a talented and intelligent man. Glad we've had several chances to meet you in New Harmony! Hope to see you again this summer.
Yes! I hope to see you at this year's version, I'll be there
I am so sorry to hear of Daniel’s passing. I have always interacted with him in the comment sections of Jocelyn‘s videos (& yours, too!). He has always contributed so much knowledge & I am so glad I thanked him many times for doing so. xoxo
Thank you for sharing, George. Your visit will be a lasting treasure for all that knew him.
What a bittersweet video and tragic loss. I thoroughly enjoyed the knowledge from both you and Daniel. Such a lovely tribute to his life and legacy.
How terribly sad. I'm so glad you got to share him and his knowledge with all of us. My condolences to the family.
Oh no! I so enjoyed his funny writings and quick wit. This is a tragic loss. Praying for his family and friends.
Me too. Agreed.
Good evening, George. I hope you had a great Easter weekend! Were those pearls, in the case at the start, real/cultured or costume? They looked knotted. I really like the classic look of pearls and cameos. That opera lamp was fantastic. I would love to have one of those barrister bookcases! There's a pretty pair of mantle lustres here. I have an old kerosene can I actually use. I keep kerosene in it to refill all of the lamps. Loved that old secretary desk! The $48.00. on the cordial set, seemed on the cheap side. I have a Jeannette shell pink juice set, in the Thumbprint pattern. Loved that Victorian cranberry epergne! Mom's has the "candy canes", with baskets hanging from them. That is horrible about Daniel! Prayers for his family 🙏 Losing a loved one is beyond expression...my recent experience has been devastating...but such a tragic loss is horrid! Thanks for sharing this one, George!
OMG, George, we were just talking about his art. Going to truly miss a fellow AIFD, fellow Artist and antiquer. I felt we hade some things in common. He always added a twist to everything. So sorry for his family. Know he was apart of the nomad family for sure.
Yes, you would have liked him I think!
Thank you for highlighting Knoxville, TN. We are proud or our scruffy little city.
RIP Daniel. You were a true treasure.
George, this breaks my heart. He seems like a beautiful person. Sympathy to you and his family. As you say, you never know...RIP Daniel.
I know, me too! He was a lot of fun in the comments and he knew a lot that added to my knowledge. He is missed
I’m so sad to hear of Daniel’s passing. I’m so glad you made it there, George, and thankful you shared this beautiful video with the world. Condolences to Daniel’s family, friends, his community in Kentucky, as well as the reselling community.
I'm so glad that I caught your premiere. I'm so sorry for your loss, he was quite an interesting character. RIP.
Me too and true that is
I'd have loved to have seen if that first table opened up. It looked like it did. Hey, why don't we have World's Fairs any more? Oh, what a sad ending. I loved listening to him. Condolences, George.
Hey George from way up here.
Very good & informative video like always.
Too short really, But, you got the chance to do the video with him & to see two people together who know so much of the history of the items we all love so much is such a treat for us. I'm sorry for you that you won't have the chance to go back & visit him again.
It really was a once in a lifetime event.
You got some good memories of that visit.
He was an incredible font of knowledge & a pleasure to listen & learn from.
Thank you for sharing your time with him.
Be safe in your travels George, from way up here. See you soon!
I was so saddened at the end of your video I wanted to cry. Th this was probably the last video of Mr Daniel he was so knowledgeable and kind. How very very sad

The world has lost a talented artist and gentleman. I wish I had known and spent time ws Daniel. What a sad lost
The best part of being a dealer in antiques other than finding the one epic item you have been looking for, is to share your knowledge with someone who is very interested and as knowledgeable in the field. I'm sure he was thrilled to have you to talk shop with and to show you his passion for antiques.
Enjoy every minute you have do a job you're passionate about and take nothing for granted.
Oh how terribly sad 😢 I am so glad you had that time with him, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend George. Thank you for sharing all that you do with us and educating us with your knowledge and the knowledge of others.
I'm so glad I can share people like this while they're here to give to us!
What a loss! I'm so sorry for Daniel's family, his friends and the rest of the antique world who had so much to learn from his wealth of knowledge. The things he knew about antiques really got people interested in his world. I wish that I had met him, RIP.
I agree, he really drew people to antiques and vintage, and I'm glad we hadd a chance to meet when we did.
I'm very sorry he passed away! He seemed such a gentle man with a lot of knowledge and talent!❤♥
What a charming friend you have ... Glad you got to hang out with him 😌

I agree, and I'm so glad I could share his knowledge with everyone
I was not expecting that ending. I’m so glad you got this one chance to meet him - he had knowledge of things I’d never heard of! (Who knew there were girl sleds and boy sleds?). My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
How very sad. I had always wondered about him and had noticed his posts.
Yes, he was interesting and willing to share knowledge, and I'm glad we got to do that while we could!
I love the smelling salt bottle. I remember as a kid in the 60s my mom used to carry smelling salts in her purse in case she felt faint.
Thanks George for sharing, good reminder on how your life can be cut short. So treat others like you would like to be treated.
RIP Daniel. I've known some major experts/collectors over the years and some of them have gone suddenly. Some wonk stuff Daniel would have appreciated: I found a carved "white material" Chinese dragon pin in an estate sale. My cousin snagged it off of me, as a gift for his wife or daughter-in-law. Could be either; they're a family of science fiction nerds and it's the Year of the Dragon. 25:15 IIRC the Italians made 3D leaves and the Czechs did flat painted ones. Modern Czech pieces have flat leaves. I couldn't remember which was which, but those designs are traditional and haven't changed much. (and if you're wondering, I learned that from a group of antique junkies, many of whom are antiques themselves.)
So sorry to the family of Daniel. Enjoyed the info he was able to share. Goes to show none of us have a guarantee of tomorrow so live your best life today.
really sorry to hear of Daniels passing , he was so personable and a good storyteller, our condolences to all who loved him.

My uncle was in love with those old Rancheros.
They are so cool!
So sad about Daniel. May he be at peace. Great video that he made so interesting.
I agree, I am so glad we got to have a moment together.
I was thinking how interesting Daniel was and what a wealth of knowledge he had. You then announced he passed away several days after doing this video. Oh, how sad and tragic! I feel for his friends and family!
I always learn something new from your videos, George. Who knew there were different sleds for girls & boys? I did not, because my brother and I had one sled so we learned to share a lot!! And we had nothing else to compare it to. Wish I still had it.
Love Daniel's mixed media art!! So much talent & imagination.
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you so much for all of that!
He so knowledgeable. Sorry for your loss of a friend George.
Rip Daniel. So happy to have met you in this video.

I'm terribly sorry, what an interesting, knowledgeable friendly man. Thank you for sharing.
Wise words, that I shall heed. Thank you George, for sharing Daniel's beautiful art with us. Hugs❤
Condolences to all- how sad.
I used to steal all my favourite marbles from my Brothers’ Crown Canadian whisky bottle bags made in purple and gold…all the boys had them, but I wanted to protect the pretty ones from getting chipped and nicked. I gave them back when we were all old enough to realise they had collector value. This was a great store, and we don’t find many like it here in Toronto.🖤🇨🇦
Tube loss of Daniel is tragic for so many reasons. Every time one of the Elders of a community passes, the knowledge they so freely shared is gone as well. I am sorry for his family and friends, and also for the younger people rising in the business who will never have the opportunity to learn from his deep store of knowledge. He will be missed.🖤🇨🇦
That is heart breaking. He was so knowledgeable. beautiful store. Blessings to his family and friends. Glad you shared this with us 🌻
So sad to hear of Daniel's death! Love his art and admire his great knowledge. He will surely be missed by all who knew him! I'm so glad you had the opportunity to introduce him to so many of us. Condolences to his family and friends!
Wow, what a shock that was. So sorry for everyone's lose.
