When Raila started asking people in Mt Kenya region to back his presidential bid in 2022, Ruto allies said Kikuyu and Gema generally can vote for Raila. At one time, Issac Mwaura organized goons at Githurai to prevent Raila from visiting Mt Kenya region. Rigathi Gachagua, Ndindi Ichungw'a Alice Wahome Moses Kuria and Susan Kihika dared Raila to campaign in Mt Kenya. To their shock Raila toured Mt Kenya and the reception was ecstatic. I remember tangatanga saying crowds do not equal votes. Next they said Raila can't get even 5%. They moved to 10, 20,30,40%. Right now, Mt Kenya is a battleground. UDA are trying to counter the Azimio wave in Mt Kenya. Their biggest worry is that Jubilee has come out so strongly. Raila is being rated at 35% in Mt Kenya which is close to 2 million votes. In 2017, Raila had only 200,000, votes in Mt Kenya. The Martha Karua Effect is giving UDA sleepless nights. Don't forget the infighting in UDA too.
