- Everton legend Derek Mountfield joins Chris Beesley in the Royal Blue studio for a stirring second episode of the Goodison Park: My Home, a series which begins the countdown to the club’s historic stadium move.
Following on from Chris’ inaugural interview with Everton’s most-successful captain Kevin Ratcliffe last time out, the Wales international’s centre-back colleague enthusiastically shares his memories of the glory days with typical Scouse wit and humour.
Mountfield lived the dream, going from the Gwladys Street terraces to being an integral part of Howard Kendall’s side and despite being a defender, he netted an incredible 14 goals in all competitions in 1984/85, the Blues’ greatest-ever season.

you where never rubbish Derek, 14 goals in that brillient year, and who can forget luton the next season,,, you are a true legend
The great Derek Mountfield ....💙Evertonian to the bone!...at the heart of possibly the best Everton side ever..💙
Derek Mountfield, a great centre-back alongside Kevin Ratcliffe, the captain, in one of Everton's greatest ever teams, if not the greatest, the League Champions and winners of the European Cup-Winners' Cup in 1984-1985.
And Derek scored 10 League goals, and not one of them was a penalty. Shots and headers! 🤗
Great Interview and delighted to see Derek so well. What a partnership with Kevin he had. I remember going nuts when he scored against Luton. Terrific memories of Rotterdam.Bracewell and Reid were outstanding. Did well at Villa and Wolves but always had Everton in his heart. Thanks Derek.
Derek Mountfield was the reason I started following Everton as a kid ,him and the rest of that amazing side that would run through brick walls for the club.
And what an eloquent story teller! Thank you for the wonderful memories Derek!
A great chat. Derek is a really likeable fella and was a cracking player. He was as important a player for that team as the rest of them.
Colin Harvey was an absolute brilliant player for Everton....part of the Legendary Holy Trinity....💙...and then on to partner Howie...in creating the Most successful Everton team In the clubs history..💙...
What a legend. 💙
Heartbroken when you left Derek, took me a long time to warm to Big Dave Watson.
deggsy mount......rock of a centre half
Better striker than what we have now, was Degsy
stevie wonder woulddo a better job then what we have now LOL
Cracking lad is Deggsy 💙 UTFT!
Another riveting interview cheers 💙
Great mention there Derek for the Great Dickie Johnson at Tranmere.💙
Hey, it's that player from my Panini football sticker album in school, I had him about 20 times ha ha
Nah, only messing, what a player, and what a team
seemed a genuine man
Glad to hear it’s not just me that gets annoyed at the modern players grappling with each other at corners and set pieces.
Yeah at every corner kick.....there is a number of legitimate penalty incidents that “Referees” totally ignore! ????......💙 Mounty is an EVERTON LEGEND!!....💙
Degsy would be close to the Boys pen in the 70s Street End.
Doesn’t get the credit he deserves imo , he would out score the strikers at the club if he was there now in his prime 😂
