Love watching and learning from your videos, I live in the southeast but still like watching your videos. I do have a question. Is there any reason nurseries would hold on to certain tress (conifers) for that long of a time before selling them?

Especially rare and hard to find trees become more valuable. Also, when you have an inventory of older trees you would like to be selling those and not the younger ones. Thanks for watching.

I have just begun my conifer learning & purchasing. I have bought about twenty of them the past 4 days. Some trees were 50% off because the nursery is making room for spring shipments. This is the only way I could afford them. Average price I paid was $150 each. I said to myself I really appreciate the growers & those who keep these conifers safe & happy as they grow. I am so excited to have the opportunity to experience caring for something that I have seen elsewhere on CZcams. I celebrate you and all you do and I will keep learning and feeling grateful to the growers that have given me the variety of interesting conifers in my garden. Zone 7 in Virginia. (Thanks for the grafting video!!👍🎋🌳). My question is where is root stock? Can I collect it from the woods? Do I have to grow it?

Thanks for watching. Conifer collecting is addicting. The rootstock needs to be compatible with the scion wood that is grafted onto it. There are nurseries that specialize in growing seedlings. These seedings are really healthy and vigorous. I have grown some seedlings with mixed success. Collecting seedlings from the wild for grafting is possible but usually not very successful.

I think that Mr. Maple is the best resource and information source to get you going on this. Also Robert Fincham, author, speaker, and teacher. He lives in Puyallup, WA
