    In commercial kitchens where I work, we sprinkle fine cheap iodized salt on oil spill (when they occur) and just leave it and walk around for a while and then sweep it all up. Makes the floor less greasy and no harsh chemicals needed, and best is that the mop does not get greasy and spread the grease everywhere else… this looks like a good idea especially because it does not use harsh chemicals!! 👍👍👍 I will give it a shot!!

    • @jb6712
      @jb6712 Před rokem +47

      I learned that from my mother decades ago. Baking soda is also excellent for oil spills, as well as absorbing eggs that may have been dropped onto the floor--we all know what a horrible, sticky mess THAT makes! But either salt or baking soda poured onto the broken eggs quickly makes the mess easy (easier) to clean up.

      If things get stuck in the pans don’t waste effort and time scrubbing, just fill with 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar (any vinegar will work even apple cider / I ran out during covid when everything was sold out 😂 so it works) put pots back on to a boil and it will get all the burned stuff out etc. It’s a tip my pops told me he was in the Navy and had to head the kitchens for a few tours 🤗I have 4 kids, and one who’s 18 that has his friends here all the time they cook in the middle of the night and leave the pots with soap so for days I have no idea they are burned and just disgusting… it works once pot was 2 weeks of pasta and sauce 🤢 I had my oldest clean it to see or he needed to buy me another, he used the hack an of course he didn’t scrub at all 🙄

      @@joyflyinghawk2104 Yes it will, mostly because of the peroxide. But if it's blood or any other bio-material, I use a live bio-enzyme based product. No scrubbing required. Just add water, let it soak for as long as needed, keeping it wet so the little enzymes can work, and they will eat it all away. Completely safe. I live in Canada and use a the bio-enzyme product called EZ Clean. It's made locally in Alberta but they do ship out. Used a great deal in dog and cat kennels, and pet messes on carpet or anywhere else. There's a thousand uses for it. But for anything bio-based, this is my go-to product.

I used it to clean a drip-pan from my cooktop that I had cleaned a few days before with vinegar and soda using another “you tube” recipe with good results except the pan coloring wasn’t acceptable. I used my mixture of this recipe to test it on this drip-pan and amazingly the pan was restored to looking new and shiny. I am very pleased and impressed. I then wiped my stainless sink and it too looks new and shiny. Thanks from Texas for your generously shared formula which was freely shared with you and now you have so generously and freely passed on.Blessings 😊
    One-fourth of the recipe:
    1/4 cup dishwashing liquid
    1/4 cup distilled water
    1½ tsp salt
    3/4 tsp baking soda
    (⬆️which is 1/4 of a tbsp. Note: corrected from 1/16 tsp which is 1/4 of a tsp.).

    Thank you for the recipe. I will have to make this and try it. I'm from Evington VA. Hey one tip for cleaning out tea stains that I discovered for those metal cups that we love to use, hard plastic cups, tea jugs, etc. is put hot water in to fill all the way up and then dump in some dry cascade powder and let it sit for a while. Rinse out with NO scrubbing might I add and it is clean as a whistle. If tea stains are really old you may have to use a little elbow power to give it a light scrub but really comes out clean. Alka seltzer or denture cleaner works too. Just make sure you rinse it several times afterwards and sparkling clean it will be.

      I make a baking soda/dish soap "paste" to wash any containers that may have held such things as pasta sauce, or any kind of high fat content food. Works beautifully to remove the grease left behind so that it never goes down the drain. I use paper towels for the initial clean for that very purpose---to prevent grease going down the drain---although a cloth (😖...too gross to think of doing!) can be used if one doesn't like to use paper towels.

Wet the stain slightly, work in the zout, let sit for 10 minutes. Once the stain is gone use a vinegar and water rinse to remove the excess soap. (If you don't the "stain" will appear to come back in a few weeks as the soap attaches itself to any new dirt that touches it, sticking it to the fibers. This is brilliant. I use all of those ingredients but have not thought to make a solution. Makes sense. Very clever indeed. Thank you 100 fold from Port Elizabeth South Africa. (6.45 am Friday 21st and when I surface, I shall be headed to the kitchen to make my solution) Thanks again❤
