So Ten went to S Korea already knowing Thai his native language and English because he studied at an International School, a British one based in Thailand very prestigious actually. He learned Korean while he was a trainee then had to start learning mandarin for WayV. When this was filmed he had just gotten back from China where he was a mentor on Great Dance Crew - he mentioned having 30 dancers under him, well that is what he was referring to. Ten's Chinese improved a lot while he was there. Many people don't know this but he learned Chinese before moving to Korea but I'm going to guess he forgot a lot of it. He also is constantly working on his Japanese another language he was learning as a trainee or not long after he debuted. He tended to switch back to Korean a lot while filming WayV content before GDC and some after but the guys say he's gotten better at sticking to Chinese while they're filming stuff.
I have so much respect for idols who are foreigners. As they have to train while also learning a language on the side!! The determination these idols have are insane and very inspiring 🙏🏻
WayV is very crazy, I really enjoy watching their variety show. Other NCT units are chaotic as well but WayV kinda has this family vibe to them. And their jokes always resonate with me because well, I'm Chinese and kinda have the same humor. Especially their 'Home With WayV' content- no joke but Hendery is truly like my mom (she's cantonese as well))
WayV members usually call Kun as Kun ge (Which means Kun hyung) and they call Ten as Ten hyung. The rest of them, they call just by name. (Maybe Winwin hyung sometimes if they speak in korean). They call Kun that not because of honorific but mostly because they're close enough to do so and it's already like his nickname, even fans call him that. As for Ten, he seems a bit strict with honorific terms. But ofc when speaking in English, all of the sudden, the honorific drops (for example Mark would just call him dude, bro or yo Ten~ sometimes)
Ten always teaches his young brothers WayV like real family. Yangyang said He wants people love them too. When this unit came to Thai (his Country) He told them about Thai couture what's Thai people like or don't like. Always make Thai pp give them ❤❤❤❤

Ohhh Xiaojun and Hendery are the goofiest people. Hendery the random chaotic crazy one, and Xiaojun the awkward cute weird one.
They were so adorable and funny in this episode!!! It was so fun to see!!
In this kind of structured content, they usually have the direction to stick to one language (in this one is mandarin, when they post content in the nct chanel is usually korean), so mostly they switch to explain something when one of them is struggling to understand something (like Ten understanding more korean and english than mandarin). When they're free of that direction, they switch language constantly and mixing them together.

Chinese honorifics yes they have. you might heard them say "Ge/Gege" it is equivalent to "Hyung" but in chinese it is regardless of the gender. Unlike korean there's Oppa/Hyung, in mandarin they only have "Ge/Gege" when someone (Male) is older than them. That's why fans are also calling kun "Kun-ge" coz he's the big brother. I don't think the triplets (maknae line, XiaoHenYang) called each other "ge/gege" the three of them just usually use it on the Hyung line (Kun Ten Winwin). Ten don't usually call Kun "Kun-ge" coz he's only 1month younger than Kun. But Winwin also call Ten and Kun "Ge/Gege"
If it's an older female - "Jie/Jie Jie"
Fun Fact: Basically Hendery doesn't call Xaiojun "gege" coz they also have the same age like Kun/Ten. Hendery is 2nd to the youngest and he only have Yangyang to call him gege and they were always bickering bout that thing coz he really wants yy to call him gege or treat him as a big brother coz he never experience that in his biological family coz he's the youngest and he only has 3 big sis LOL
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that to me!! I find Honorifics so wholesome! In Norway we don't have anything like that. Like we even call out teachers by their first name or sometimes we just say "Du" which means "You" 😂 I've always found the Korean language so wholesome cause of all the endings you can put on the names for closer friends. Like if I'm close with my friends we usually just say "ehm" to get their attention and then ask whatever we wondered about 😂
- I love every side of wayv lol when they're onstage they serve so hard but offstage they messy and chaotic asfff then in reality shows (i recommend summer talk hehe) they are so adorable pls i love them too much
- They tend to switch languages a lot and it also depends on who is talking to who, like how yangyang and ten usually talk to each other in english.
- Also, in addition to them using honorifics, they also sometimes call each other by their real names like Chittaphon for Ten, Sicheng for Winwin, Dejun for Xiaojun, etc.
It's so fun rewatching this again with you. I already forgot who the culprit really was. I keep on locking in on someone else the entire time, sorry Winwin 😂

WayV is very competitive, just few weeks ago WayV went to a dinner and the table next to them was full of opera singers, the opera singers were singing and dancing. WayV actually went to dance Give Me That because of the competitiveness 🤣🤣

They're so chaotic! Xiaojun and Hendery are the dorkiest in the group-they're so funny! Ten is the competitive one; you can never win against him, lol. Kun always gets teased, even though he's very smart. YangYang is always cool, and Winwin is just too cute. They all have duality, but Xiaojun's, Hendery's, and Ten's duality is on another level because they're so unpredictable. You can never tell how they are in real life when they're on stage.
I was so shocked to see the difference between stage and off stage! 🤣 Switching to the Diamonds only, mid episode and suddenly see them so professional was just a wow experience 🤣
I also feel like getting teased is such a leader trait😅
I was confused with the last hint at first because each of them actually has two animal symbols and other than Dinosaur, Xiaojun is also Dragon. And that could be imaginary too. Hendery is donkey & unicorn.

Yes, they're speaking mandarin here. Most of their variety is done in Mandarin, and then official stuff or side quests out in the world it's Korean. But my favourite thing is that when they argue they start switching between Mandarin, Korean, English, even Cantonese 😆
Chinese has age-related honorifics too, which are very important when speaking. Ge/Jie (哥/姐) for 'older brother/sister' and Di/Mei (弟妹) for 'younger brother/sister'.
WayV will call Kun/Ten/Winwin Ge (or Hyung) since they are years older, and Ten is very strict lmao. XiaoHenYang are all pretty close in age, so don't really need to. They don't seem to use Di much directly, sometimes when Kun is referring to the members on camera. But you can tell WayV are super close and comfortable enough with each other to choose when they want to use honorifics rather than it being necessary (like with strangers/acquaintances etc).
Ten is kind of strict with honorifics, especially when they're speaking in Korean, which I respect about him because he values Korean culture. In English, it's not a big deal, so it's fine for him to be more casual. In Chinese, it's like 'gege' or 'ge' (which means 'hyung' in Korean), but it also means 'big bro.' It's more casual than calling someone 'hyung' in Korean. WayV mostly calls him 'Ten-hyung'; they rarely call him 'Ten-ge.' For Kun, they call him 'Kun-ge' more than 'hyung',' since they are all Chinese and very close to Kun. For Winwin, they also call him 'Winwin-hyung,' maybe because he has been close to them after he debuted with WayV. Idk if it makes sense 😂

I wanna add about the honorifics, in mandarin they're not as strict as in korean-japanese-thai, their use show more proximity than social ranks.
Yaaaay gonna be commenting on the go. Ten is extremely compettitive, althought he always tries to play it cool 😂 the rest of the guys are not so much, but as other have pointed out, they're very chaotic. IMO, as a group they aren't fans of this kind of games, they are even usually pretty bad at them 😅 and they have said a couple of times that they prefer talking and drinking (wine, mostly).
I feel that 🤣 I’m super competitive. Problem is I suck at games 🤣🤣

There's this meme in the fandom about a time when they were all nct together and it was very chaotic, people dancing on tables and things like that and everyone was losing it except Kun, who was just sipping his wine 🤣 and the comments were, ofc he's not fazed by this, he's WayV leader, this must be a tuesday afternoon for him 🤣
I don't know if he switches up how he sounds but he does tend to sound different depending on what language he is speaking or singing in. His tones changes, I think that's normal for anyone who speaks multiple languages though.

I have those on my list to watch, I just don't want to start them before I am positive I can commit to them each week, as I already watch MonMukGo and are starting EXO Ladder 💕 But once I'm more sure I'll have time and energy for it I'll start it. for now I'll keep to the single videos. But I'll probably try to watch those videos once a week, there's just not that commitment yet. if that makes sense`😅
Ten is crazy competitive. Its established that even his name can't allow him to lose!. Wayv are very chaotic in shows and they throw each other under the bus or anonymously decide to tease kun/ xiaojun..they are hilarious!.
Ten is strict about honorifics especially coz the members are Chinese & didn't really observe the honorifics in Korean culture because they are foreigners. so ten hyung really stuck but they refer to kun as kun-ge. The triplets don't use honorifics by them.
