    If a race fills up before you have a chance to register, look into their official charity sponsors! There are many charities you can sign up to run for, and raise money for a good cause. These charities have a certain number of registration spots held for them, so even if a race is full, you can get in this way. They also usually have extra goodies for their runners, including race shirts/singlets, or even free running shoes, given directly from the charity. I signed up late, and did this for the 2018 wdw marathon, ran for RODS racing team.

    Best tip I can give: know which in-park bathrooms are on the race course! The restrooms in Tomorrow Land are so much better than the portable toilets in the backstage areas.

    I know that ALOT has changed over the 3 years since this video was released. I am so glad that RunDisney has added a full selection of "virtual" races. It makes a great way to still get the shirt(s) and medal(s) while also getting a solid workout.

    My girlfriend and I came over from England solely for Princess Half Marathon last year and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Both of us wore our medals for the remainder of race day and also for a few days after, it was amazing seeing others doing the same and getting well done remarks from fellow runners. The best thing I found was the cast members would be extremely interested and congratulatory. I also second "RezRuns" for anyone interested in taking part in any Run Disney events, his channel is amazing!

    Good run down, just a few things I’d add. If you are walking or a slower runner, please don’t be afraid to participate! This is a great race for beginners and it may motivate you to get in shape and do even more racing in the future! And if you choose to do this as a beginner, please also be respectful of those who have been training hard by staying to the right so that runners can pass on the left. 😉

    From someone who works every race I recommend one thing.
    Because registration is So fast and So far in advance....a lot of people forget that they pre order merchandise. And after every marathon weekend up to half of the runners never pick up their items.
    This breaks my heart, guys. Because these items can cost upwards of 100 -250 (if you are forgetting a Dooney. Which people do)
    So even if you don't remember if you hastily added on pre ordered items...be sure to check when you stop by the expo

    Consider purchasing the photopass. I happened to be an annual pass holder this year so it was included, but the mid-race "action" photos were some of my favorites of my entire trip. If you purchase the package, it does include any Disney photos taken by their photographers while in the park, special/character meals, and ride photos for everyone on your trip itinerary. Well worth it for us.

    This is an awesome video on runDisney info. I have been to a handful of runDisney events and you hit all the important points. I will say, staying on property hotels is a must and make sure you double and triple check bus times for race morning - great rule of thumb is allow yourself plenty of time (to get to the race, get through bag check, and get to your corral), as early as it sounds getting on the bus by 3:30 am is must with all the traffic and participants needing a seat from the resort.

    I am in no way a fit person but I've run at Disneyland Paris for the past 2 years, doing the 5k both times and in 2018 I achieved my first 10k. For 2019 I'm sticking with the 5k & 10k but want to be even faster with my finish time. I never thought I would enjoy running but through Run Disney I've become closer with friends, made new friends and found an awesome group to motivate and support me for every step (RunDV!). My ultimate goal, to run a 1/2 marathon at WDW in 2021 and achieve the Castle to Chateau that year too.

    My wife and I just ran the Princess 10k, it was our first 10k and our first run disney race. We don't run but we love disney so we thought we would give it a try. The overall experience was a good 1, the only problem we had was with the walkers basically taking up the whole width of the course and not sticking to the right sideish. I mean not even close. We would do it again but not every year because of how expensive it is but again we both had an awesome time.

    A fun thing with the races is getting to go through “backstage” areas of the parks (and you can take pictures unlike the tours). A big reason to get to the races early is so you have time to take pictures with the characters that are there, and also watch fun videos and listen to the DJ. It is fun but if you’re in the last corral it does get boring. Another thing to note is that there are “balloon ladies” who ensure that you keep a pace of no less than 16 minutes per mile. If you fall behind them you will have to exit the races. Overall they are fun and you feel so good once you get the race medal!

  • @shaynenewell4379

    It's not a little expensive, it's A LOT expensive! I have run the marathon once at Disney World and completed a number of 5K and 10K races in both Florida and California. They are fun, the theming is fantastic, and the support (water/Powerade, cold sponges, Vaseline, etc.) is second-to-none. However, though my husband still loves to do runDisney races, I'm over it. The races are so crowded that it takes the fun out of it for me. I'm a slower runner, so I end up in one of the later corrals, and I end up expending so much extra energy trying to get around walkers and other slower runners that it's difficult to settle into a comfortable pace and enjoy the race.
    I have purchased the platinum ChEAR Squad package several times when my husband has run on marathon weekend (no Dopey, yet, but he's done a few Goofy challenges), and it certainly does make race spectating a lot easier. Highly recommend!

    • @ponchoaurelio3090
      @ponchoaurelio3090 Před 5 lety

    • @shaynenewell4379
      @shaynenewell4379 Před 5 lety +1

      @@ponchoaurelio3090 You can definitely still cheer on your runner without the ChEAR Squad package, both along the course and at the finish line. But the bleacher seats closest to the finish line are reserved for ChEAR Squad. There are designated ChEAR Squad spectating locations along the race course at prime locations (for example, right in front of Cinderella Castle) but you can definitely still see your runner along the course without access to these reserved spots.

    My advice to any first time RunDisney peeps is that you should try to give some sort of Proof of Time! I didn't submit a Proof of Time and I was in the middle of the last corral, it took almost two hours for me to even be able to START the race haha. They don't release many runners at one time, so if you get stuck in one of the last corrals then it can be hours before you get to begin.
    This was just something I wish I had known before my first race, but even with the wait it was sooooo fun

    Thank you for doing this video! Planning my 4th RunDisney event for Wine and Dine this year. Biggest advice, MAKE THE RUNDISNEY EVENT YOUR DISNEY VACATION! Its super expensive, even as a solo traveler. Research to see what charities or even travel agents will be supplying bids for your RunDisney weekend. Beats having to mad dash for registration online.
    BE PREPARED FOR THE EXPO! On the first day it is a nightmare! Biggest advice for going to the expo on day one: BRING A BAG WITH YOU, example, an expandable backpack to put all the shirts, preorders and other items you will get at the expo. Follow the signs around you to get to where you need to be. If you are unsure about something while at the expo, PLEASE ASK SOMEONE! Even if its a random person you are in line with, you will be surprised how helpful they can be and might make a new friend.
    Pinterest has tons of checklists to print out to keep you on track.

    Something I wish I would have known about was all of the vendors that were there. You’re able to pick anything you can think of running related from supplements , get kt taped to gear. It’s also worthwhile checking to see which restaurants have special discounts for those running, but to make sure you get reservations early enough to be in bed for the 3am alarm clock to be at the stage area at 4am. There’s also the photo areas with sets/characters in the staging area. Lastly bring gallon sized ziplock bags for icing after while laying in bed or on the pool, especially in between races if you’re doing a challenge. I have my coast to coast medals , kessel run and darkside challenge. Don’t plan on more than a pool day on race days because your legs will be toast. The hardest part of the races is terrain change going from flat roads to the overpasses and in the parks kill your quads.

    I did the 2018 Dark side challenge and I might try going to a race every other year
    1) virtual races you’re just buying a medal there is literally nothing more to it. I thought here would be some web content or something. There is not.
    2) contrary to popular opinion real runners can potentially set a PR. But, you can try for a record anywhere for a lot less money, slow down for some photo ops and have fun, it’s Disney. I pushed hard on the 10k and felt like I was doing it wrong, had a lot more fun on the half.
    3) save some money on one less park pass. next time I’ll plan for a day by the pool or at Disney springs after the big race. I Just wanted to ride soar’n to keep my feet off the ground after the half.

    A little expensive?? I’ve run the Wine and Dine and the Princess Half and I’m not sure if I’ll ever do another one because they keep raising the prices up every year. I will say this though, if you truly love Disney and running I think it’s worth running ONE race.
    I ran the Wine and Dine when it started at 10pm and the after party was in Epcot until 4am. I loved that experience and the course was amazing, as you got to go through every park but Magic Kingdom. I wasn’t as thrilled with the Princess because you spend most of your time running outside of the parks so it wasn’t as fun for me.

    • @littlemaridee
      @littlemaridee Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks! I was considering the princess but I'd heard about the princess being run mostly outside of the park, which seemed a bummer. I might consider switching to the wine and dine based on your description of the after party. But yeah, the next Disney half will likely be my last because of cost.

    Totally disagree that you should plan your park days after the run event.
    Walking several miles through the parks in advance is a great warm up to your big race. Whereas, you may be barely able to walk at all after your run.

      Yes! There are many free spectator spots you can catch your runner at for the all half and marathon races in Jan -- not sure if they offer them for the 5k and 10k races. They are listed in the event guide for each race. It also helps if you track them through the runner tracking and know about how fast they do each mile.

      it won't, unless its marathon Sunday. Then there's a path that us runners stay on when we run. They set up a barrier so we stay safe while y'all are in the parks. You are able to cheer/watch as you walk by.

    • @abbyerose0565
      @abbyerose0565 Před 5 lety

      Honestly, it's going to be really crowded during the weekend of the races (Thursday-Sunday) and the traffic patterns are going to be odd. You're also going to want to avoid Epcot/Hollywood Studios on the day of the Marathon especially, it's unbelievable packed. If you're planning on driving to the parks, you're going to have a terrible time parking at Epcot, so I would recommend parking at the Transportation and Ticket Center. Often the Epcot parking lot fills up and you get stuck in a massive line of traffic going into the lot that can literally take hours to clear through. I'd recommend trying to avoid the parks as a whole on Sunday (the day of the Marathon), if possible. If you can't, it's not going to be bad, but it'll just be a very different than a normal day at Disney.
      Overall though, the race weekends are a lot of fun, but they are a deviation from an average day at Disney. The energy of everyone there is really great and I've found the race weekend to be really inspiring in terms of seeing all kinds of different people finish the races. You're going to have a wonderful trip no matter what, but you are going to have to do a little extra planning in order to get the most magical experience!

    I have to object somewhat with DFBGuide’s new motto, “Let’s win Disney”. I realize it’s mostly me, as the motto is catchy and does a great job of conveying your goal of helping your viewers get the most of their time there. But to my way of thinking, “win” implies competing. “Win” involves at least some struggle and makes it seem as though, if you don’t make the absolute most out of every minute there, you’ve “lost.” Hardly makes for a relaxing trip, right? I much prefer simply having a “comfortable agreement.” Considering that most of my vacations the last 3 years or so have been to Disney a World/Orlando (I’d cheat sometimes and visit Universal or Sea World, too) or to Las Vegas, I leave the losing to the contents of my wallet.
    Keep u- the amazing work!

      I am planning my first trip to Disney. I have planned five trips to Europe for four of us with multiple cities, planes, trains and automobiles, and I have never spent even half the time planning those as I have for this upcoming trip for just two of us. So, I feel like the "winning' part is simply understanding what's going on and having a strategy--not necessarily planning out every second. I like the new motto. I think it's accurate. It's me vs. Disney. I want to win.
