  • It's time to set some new reading goals for 2023!
Not number of books, not number of pages. Check out the plan that works best for me. Maybe it will work for you, too!

I have two of your goals as mine. More poetry and books in translation. I have two new Ernaux books and hopefully a classic on my mind. I had never followed book awards before but booktubers have opened my eyes otherwise I would not have found The Trees, my favorite book of 2022.

I haven't read Annie Ernaux yet. I'd be interested to hear what you think of her work. And thanks for calling my attention to The Trees. I'll check it out!

Just found your channel and I'm loving your videos!
For some recs within your categories:
-For Science Fiction: I really enjoyed Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang - he writes great science fiction with wonderful prose. One of the stories from the book was the basis for the movie Arrival
-For Humor: I'm a big fan of Samantha Irby's books. We Are Never Meeting in Real Life is my favorite from her. She has a new one coming out in May called Quietly Hostile as well

Thanks, Hunter! I've been reading Ted Chiang, too. He's incredibly imaginative and his version of reality is so convincing. I tried Samantha Irby on audio but she didn't catch on for me. Maybe I'll try again. IMHO humor is the hardest to write!

I’m watching this for a second time. I’m listening to a very interesting book on Audible and want to suggest it to you. An Immense World by Ed Yong. Not wanting to mention much more, but to say he is a Pulitzer Prize winning author.
Please share the poetry recommendations you received. Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendation, Marty. I'll check it out!
Poetry my poet friend suggested: The Carrying by Ada Limon, Native Guard by Natasha Trethewey, American Journal: 50 Poems for Our Time edited by Tracy K. Smith, and The Age of Phillis by Honoree Fanoonne Jeffers. Keep in mind she was thinking of my taste in particular, but no doubt these are all good picks!

i'm using story graph to see the distribution of the genres im reading. i always find it surprising--very disproportionate!!

I'd bet that's true of most readers, in one direction or another!
