2010 Volvo S40 Review - • Video - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Hi I am a mechanic who started working in Kenya in late 80s to Early 2000 before moving to Dubai in 2003. One knowledge that was a great breakthrough to me is understanding the use of a Component called Thermostat in the cooling system and its relation to the way the ECU works. In Kenya mechanics remove the thermostat and Throw it away instead of replacing it with a new one, they also use water instead of coolant. Those two things alone opens a can of worms in any car.
Those with GDI engines it's even worse.
Once the THERMOSTAT has been removed the engine will not reach the normal operating temperature fast, low temperature trigers the computer to sense that the engine needs to warm up fast and so it sends a message to the injectors to put more fuel in the engine, in the meantime the engine remains cold and therefore it does not burn all that fuel which then turns into carbon, fails the combustion Chambers and prevents the plugs from firing. Cold cylinders allow fuel to leak into the crankcase through the rings ruining the lubricating quality of the engine oil. All these happen quite fast. ....TBC
Explains alot.
And the way I had my thermostat removed. I should buy another one immediately.
my dad had his thermostat removed then instead connected the fan direct such that when he starts up the engine whether cold or hot the fan is always rotating , the bad part is that the car sometimes loses power and when the mechanic checks he always finds carbon in the plugs besides dad always complaining that his car is consuming more fuel
I love that info
Great info
Am so delighted I came across this channel,as a Kenyan am fascinated,I haven't seen any local reviewer, this is my first. Shukran King and keep up🔥🔥🔥

Good advice. For those who are critical of this video, the review is talking about high failure rates and not failure guarantees. So afew owners may be lucky... And ofcourse low luck is low chance.
On point Jonah, this is exactly what I was passing across

@@CARNVERSATIONS would you mind have a review on freelander
Thank you for pointing this out. Another thing to note is that some Kenyans want to buy vehicles they can abuse, some of the so called reliable brands can take abuse better than the rest. I use a Nissan daily and it appears in the unreliable list but I treat it like a Merc and it reciprocates.
Even in Europe and America Nissan gearbox are known gabage.
And their electronic has gone downhill since mergin with Renault.
There is a saying, the only car more expensive than new luxury car, is an old luxury car.
Any old luxury car is a problem
mazda demio is a luxury car to some
List Summarised:
1. Mazda Cx5 Diesel
2. Mitsubishi Gallant 1800cc GDI Engine
3. Nissan Bluebird Sylphy KG 11
4. Nissan Serena 2004 - 2013
5. Nissan Navara 2004 - 2007
i disagree that Nissan KG11 dashboard blistering is a very minor issue on a very small part of the dashboard, maybe only 5% on the right side of the steering wheel.
Which can you recommend as per now 2021
Even in the States we know to stay away from Mitsubishi Gallant! Great info Kaka!
Every small Nisan car
@@imranciyax8233 Thank you really needed this
Thanks for these..keep the background music lower..its competing with you.
Noted, thank you
@CARNVERSATIONS thank you I hadn't noticed too.
i love how he planned to hide the car plate no with the tyre
..simple but smart setup
Thank you, I must admit you attention to details is awesome
You are observant 😂 though he used a benz tyre instead of a Volvo tyre
@@jontecaros3194 that would have killed it 100% but he is good ..would never have thought of that either
Very clever.
But volvo ni chache Kenya... Na 3 letters ziko visible.. starting point
Great work and this should be encouraged as we dont have many kenyan car reviewers
We own a Nissan Pathfinder. About 2 years ago it started overheating, gasket had to be changed. Upon reassembly, the turbo refused to function. We've lived without it since. It is the perfect car if you do long travel but now without the turbo, it doesn't feel the same. The good thing with all the hustles of fixing it is that it's taught me a lot about cars.
Great and informative stuff with this one. Definitely subscribing and camping here for more
Karibu sana Mary, and thanks for your subscription, hit the bell icon to get instant notification whenever we drop our content.
Great video and looking forward to more. There are indeed no proper car review channels in Kenya. You are doing a great job entertaining that niche. I’m now your fan.
This is so insightful!thanks a lot bro, will definitely link you up when purchasing my first date for your review, shukran
I love your explanation ,you are real.we need people like you.Mungu akubariki.which is the best toyota for a woman.
We wouldn't mind other top 5 lists from bikes, to 4 by 4s, to high end or luxury vehicles even lorries
I love how you explain and well informed you are about these cars. Keep up. Just found a new channel to watch out!

Just discovered this channel, and am happy I did.
Good Job.
Glad you enjoy it!
Great idea Engineer, this good advice was planning to but one of this but now I know.God bless you
Thank you, be blessed too
Good information. Kindly give details of how new versions beyond the year limits you have given are performing? Like has the CX5 diesel engines improved?
I'm actually happy to have chanced upon this channel. I had already negotiated a good deal on Nissan Serena 2012 and then boom everyone has a problem with it. Let me take to the hills and try my luck with another car.
Careful with the Serena esp the year I have mentioned above, much welcomed
i have a Nissan serene 2011 and am in my 2nd gearbox. i’ve tried selling at 200k no one wants it. please please dont try!
@@camerachat8830 I have one, same year, what you do is look for CVT cooler, you can google it, is like a radiator, around 18k and you will enjoy it.

Thank you, I will
The background music is switching off my concentration so fast!
Noted, will be corrected on our subsequent videos apologies kindly subscribe more awesome content on the way
I went through comments to make sure I will not add a comment addressing the same issue. In editing, if voice over volume is 10, back ground sound should be less than a quarter of the volume, that is 1.5 or 2. I love what Wokabi is doing - I hope your comment will help add to the quality of the production.
Struggling to hear the narrator at somepoints actually
I dont want to sound repetitive... but the music was a little loud than your voice. Just for emphasis.
Otherwise a great job you doing. And am subscribing.

I am glad I saw this..when I was buying my first car I had a deal for a sylpy for 400k but I was attracted to a subaru impreza 2006 with an ej15 never regreted
You made the right decision sir.
subaru cars are very reliable and vichwa ngumu sana ...
Hahaha The serena Bit is very accurate. We had a trip last weekend on one and the stops we made coz baby was overheating. Maaaad

Great and in depth review, keep up the great work. Would you advice anyone to buy a Nissan brand say Elgrand v/s Honda Stepwgn Spada ,Nissan Fuga or Toyota Crown

You'd rather the Honda Stepwgn to the Elgrand..... Best family mover.....
The challenge of CVT overheating is Solved by Adding external transmission coolers and fixed anterior to radiator.
It costs about 100$ .
You can buy 2 oil coolers of Mitsubishi pajero or Canter Fix them and problem is over. I have a Serena now milage about 200k all doing gud.
Dont sell your car for manageable solution.
Thanks boss for this info. Where will i get this done? I have a Nissan Serena and it sometimes just looses power after a long drive... Please assist assist a brother🙏
I bought a Nissan not that bluebird. But the second day from Mombasa the Engine heat up. Then the gear box problems started.
You have been spot on.

Very insightful, I wonder how I hadn't realized this channel, I just want to confirm nissan and overheating is very obvious
Na bado shitty gearbox
Thank you, ha ha ha Nissan ni Nissan tu
Had a Sylphy KG11 2L engine for 4 years. Besides the dashboard issue as you have mentioned, gave me good service.
Thought so too. Have used one for 7 years with only problem being dashboard and low clearance.
Just what I needed when I scrolled down, now I'm a fan.
For the GDI Engine, does that problem apply to all Direct Injection Gasoline Engines like the Nissan Note DIG-S ?
Its an issue with Mitsubishi GDI engines.. even pajero gdi is another junk but the other Mitsubishis are fine
very informative review, owning a Nissan Navara is fun coz you are guaranteed with a daily morning breakfast at the garage
Ha ha ha funny but true
@@CARNVERSATIONS I am honesty shocked they have those issues. We have owned ours from brand new and have done 240K (km) without it skipping a beat. I actually admire it.
All Nissan vehicles don't like stiggy owners. You take it to a good Nissan workshop and spend on genuine parts you will love Nissan. I drive a 2004 Nissan and it is always on the road. I can't see myself living without it. Very reliable vehicle.
Can't believe Navara is the number 1 and the way mine outshines her competitors the likes of hilux especially on offload, 😂😂 but only after swapping Yd25 with qd32 Turbo, He he he.
@@quarrymachinery why did you had to remove the YD engine? YD25 is a very reliable engine if taken care of. I have maintained a number of them for my clients and they run trouble free. Nissan technology do8like guess work, proper diagnosis will solve the problems cost effectively and keep the vehicle on the road throughout.
I was wondering where the Navara is until I got to number one. On the postive light the Navara looks good, thats it.
Eric you do an excellent job. Thank you for sharing
What are your thoughts about Nissan dualis?
I was actually expecting a Toyota Hilux Inter Cooler turbo double cab. It has been a nightmare to me...now going for a third engine...I mean 3 engines!!
Most likely you like your pedal on the floor and you haven't sorted out some mess in the cooling system. Make sure you also fuel at genuine petrol ⛽ stations
Very informative info! Love the ending too...hahaha! 😄🤣😂😆
Glad you liked it!
Thank for you article of december 2020 regarding the optimum engine for lpg conversion. You correctly advised that the engine ixeally should have a compression ratio of 12:1 in order to cully utilize the RON 110 lpg. Amazingly only one petrol

Hehehe the state of the diesel CX5 variant - I have tried enough telling people off this vehicle but at least someone states it as it is. Thumbs up
Many people do not want to listen but it is the unfortunate state
what of the petrol variant?
@@hamomba1 Petrol is pretty much OK, you won't find yourself with some issues that plague the diesel. Lacks a bit of punch in torque and little bit on consumption since we know - ⛽. But you will live easy with it
Manze bro ur just eye opener kip it up kutujulisha zaidi..

You were right about Nissan Bluebird. My friend has changed the GEARBOX TWICE!!!
Very nice job right there.. I love this. Please lower the background track, its a bit too loud.
Thank you, sound issue noted will be corrected going forward
Can you kindly do a review on a subaru forester XT, a Toyota vanguard and a Mazda cx-5, and if you can, throw in a rav 4. Plse keep down the music. Thank you
Thank you, I will definitely put this in the pipeline on the audio will be sorted out going forward
I'd definitely watch a video on this.
Can you also throw the Honda CR-V in there?
Happy that you didn't mention Nissan Advan, the best car in the world. No major repairs except the usual. Break system, suspension, engine, name them, all perfect !! Imported 9 years ago and is as good as new. Often drive it home twice or ones a month covering a distance of 1km to and fro. It also my daily or routine trips in town..
Have been driving a Nissan Sylphy since 2014. Never had a problem other than the dashboard. Have found it to be my most reliable car since. Maybe I have been lucky. However I have noted you rarely ever find Nissan Salon cars in a garage. Grant it I maybe more biased as a long time owner though. Major issue about that model is the clearance. We mostly meet when repairing the front bumper but rarely anything mechanical.
Thanks for sharing
No car is immune to defects and so avoid such, just do the simple thing and service your car as per the manufacturer's guidelines.
Guessing you own one of the unreliable cars. I agree no car is immune but some are prone to failure. Mazda actually recalled the 2012-2013 CX5s.
Good vid bro thou' the background music makes the all clip look like an advert
Noted, thank you
Most of the issues referred in these cars boil down to maintenance. There are certain things that should be changed with age; rubbers, gaskets, filters, certain sensors, etc
Noma Sana bro. Insightful. 🔥🔥
I like this content, I'll have to contact you when I'll be buying my first car
Thank you, I look forward to

Great content, I'm just learning this now, about my serena. I'm on my second engine now, but the problem doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. Where's your garage, I definitely need your help 😂
Am also on my Serena , but naambiwa remove the thermostats, and have just removed mine while watching this video
@@reggaelyricszone9061 what was the issue with yours? Mine is losing power, like a lot, and my rev never goes past 2.5 or 3, even when I fully press the gas. It also consumes a lot man.
@@jaysonterry Exactly as mine, though mine starts after a long distance, like if am moving from Nairobi nikifika past nakuru , I have to cool the engine for like 30 min, am told that the engine overheats because of the thermostats in the engine, so I've removed mine, have also bypassed fans to be on every time you ignite the engine, .. that's the only way to save our serena
Khaai
I have a Serena Highway Star 2007 that has done 220k and still in perfect condition with no issues with the engine or gearbox. It's reliable and can take you from Nairobi to Kisumu and back without overheating issues. It's a beast on the road with just simple regular maintenance
