Yikes! So very sorry about your plant. Thank you for sharing and helping us learn .
So sorry about your plant. I hope it grows back for you David.
I found your channel today. I liked and watched all your Hoya videos. I have 52 Hoyas in my collection. I love your calm voice. I find it to be very relaxing. Looking forward to more Hoya videos. Show us that sunrise you talk about. I love mine too. 😊
Wow--thanks so much. The support means the world. Yes, that sunrise is coming up very, very soon. People really forgot about this one, it seems. You and I can bring it back 😀😆😀
One of my oldest Hoyas are Buotii. Got it as a extra cutting like 4 years ago. Started very slow, but now its crazy! Love this plant!
Very nice! Happy to report that I have one leaf, and, somehow, two growth points starting. It'll be a while before I catch up to you 🤣😅🤣
Crying into the cake in which I'm eating with my hands 😂 I admit I have been down that carby slope before. But yes! We've all done it, I'm so glad you were able to save something, and I hope you have or will be able to see that baby bloom!
Sorry about the plant it has happened to all of us. Being a chronic underwaterer I sometimes have to restart from cuttings but usually find the new plants are more tolerant of my erratic watering behavior. Thank goodness for self watering pots that has helped a lot.
Agreed on those restarts. They often grow much more quickly, as well. Thanks for another comment!
I am losing a Hoya Krohniana Super Silver... it really bothers me too! Thank you for sharing!
I find those much trickier than a lot of people do!
New subscriber… love your delivery and insights. Don’t have this one…
Thank you! Happy to report that my small, buy mighty, H boutii is making a strong comeback ☺
Ohhhh I feel you! However, perhaps those starts will grow more vigorously than the original plant? It's happened to me so many times now. Cheers from Iowa 😀
He's not the first plant that I seriously reduced to one node 🤣😂🤣
Glad to find your channel today. I also enjoy the challenge of growing hoyas from Ottumwa, Iowa. It's so rewarding to grow a hoya from a cutting to watching them bloom for the first time. I have close too 75 hoyas. I don't have a grow tent but some do enjoy spending the hot humid summers outside. Thank you for sharing your fertilizer you use. I currently use liquid dirt which does well with my hoyas, orchids and house plants. What is your soil mix? I use a 1/3 each of bark, perlite, potting mix. Have a great day
Hello, fellow Iowan! Your mix is about what I use (coco coir being the binder in all of them, so no peat). It varies as much by what I grab out of the bucket more than anything 😎. I've heard many good things about liquidirt. So many ways to "do it right."
Catching up on your videos. Tough lesson to learn including unintended consequences. So sorry for your experience. It happens to all of us in some form or fashion. We just learn and move on. Perhaps you have saved another person or Hoya from sharing your experience. The Universe works in mysterious ways. 😊🥰. 👌🪴🥰
I'm sorry about your plant, but I'm happy you didn't lose the whole thing.
Hey, thanks! Two new growth point and one healthy leaf. It’s a start 🤣
Have been there. After making my cuttings I usually put them in a plastic bag with a very small amount of water and hope for some roots to appear. This made me anxious to go check out my Buoti. I have been squishing mealie bugs on it, but maybe I should take a closer look. I think this would be a very useful video for hoya nubies that have yet experienced how rapidly they can decline.
Ah, thank you! I take no prisoners with mealies and give a thorough Dr Woods soap, alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide spray…. Best to you.
My first root rot case with a hoya happened just last month. I’ve been keeping plants for years at this point, but that hoya dropped a ton of leaves and is now in prop bags. It had almost no roots
Even now I can barely believe how quickly certain plants can go down. But as noted, pretending there wasn't a problem didn't really help me out 🤣
This video is hilarious 😂
😆 Thank you. I'm just about to trellis up the successfully propagated node, I'm pleased to report.
How do you know it didn't just die from under watering? I'm not a hoya person and it just looks like it died from lack of water to me. Oh Jeez o Pete I hope I don't kill the only hoya I have!
You're exactly right. The roots dried/died, and couldn't uptake water. The one little prop that survived is now one little plant looking quite sturdy (and cute!)
It happened to my macrophylla albomarginata, there was nothing to save. It died within 2 days
Oof. It can happen sooo fast. Whenever I see advice on FB about putting in an absorbent materials to help dry the soil, I feel like shouting "You don't have that kind of time!!) 🤣🤣🤣
@@soberplantguy I'm kind of happy that it happened, I learned my lesson on dry rot. I think the worst advice people give is to let your hoya dry out completely between watering. I was afraid to water them... So far from the truth. But the lesson learned, so I'm thankful for that. At least it didn't happened on a rarer hoya😅
My first Hoya was a Sunrise. I bought it during the winter and apparently overwatered it so root rot. But, I didn’t recognize the problem because it just froze in place. No dry leaves and no growth. So, I thought maybe flat mites and sprayed every plant in the house for eight weeks. But, finally seeing no difference in this plant I unpotted it and sure enough, root rot. This plant is now in pieces in Fluval Stratum. Hopefully a lesson learned as it broke my heart to cut her up.
Love your channel and I will be looking for plants in the Fall. Today I went to Lowe’s and bought those pots you use. Much better than the expensive Italian pots I had been buying. Thank you.
@@phf3238 Thank you! Glad you like the pots, too 😀
