  • Screen cover is a valuable improvement to implement on your whitetail property this year. It can secure hunter access, close off food plots, and much more. Check in with Jake to see how to evaluate what parts of your whitetail property can benefit from screen cover.

Jake don't you have concerns about putting a food plot within 50 yards of your neighbor's line even with screening? I had a swale hole on my northern property line-like you I thought would be good place to put in a food plot. After I started bringing in the deer they put up a high tower stand just off the property line that even with screening they would be able to see into...

Yes and No. I have a smaller area to incorporate habitat improvements on this property, which often times means improvements near property borders in order to give the deer a sanctuary within the interior. 50 yards is normally as close as I want to create an improvement from my access. Our previous property we had a 400 yard winding food plot trail that was 40-50 yards from the property border, the deer took that all the time. This particular food plot is also designed in a way to encourage deer travel parallel with my property border, hopefully keeping more deer away from my neighbors / my access. This plot leads to a few larger plots steering the deer away from that neighbor as well. If I notice that a lot of deer are being pulled in from that neighbor's property and they put up stands along the property line, I'll see if there is anything I can do to push the movement away from those locations. But if you've got an attractive property deer will come from the neighbors and if you have a neighbor that sits on the fence, outside of having a conversation with them there is only so much you can do. I am going to work on making my property as attractive as it can be and to influence movement within my borders. Not going to go out of my way to influence movement to and from the neighbor but it will happen. Focus on controlling what you can control :)
