  • Gypsy Jazz Lesson by Sven Jungbeck
    Attention:
    In this lesson i say several times b instead of Bb.
    I hope you forgive me, it is because in Germany we have b and h instead of Bb and b.
    Throughout this tune only Bb happens! Thank you

    Thanks Sven, loving these Proper Chords videos. Such a handy way to learn Gypsy Jazz voicings and progressions, even if I already have the chart.

    Such a good lesson!! It's so helpful that you give some many different options of chords you can play over the progression. Also very nice that you explain with music theory why the chords are being played. Such good work and best guitar lesson on This song by far on CZcams. Make more of these man!!

    Very nice lesson & such a great tune, it's not surprising there are many versions in many countries & languages. Not everyone can make use of the thumb for bass notes when forming a complex chord, it depends on your individual bone structure & flexibility & in fact many, if not most players rarely or never use their thumbs. If you can it's a useful addition. I broke my pinky & ring finger in my chord hand years ago so some 4 finger & many 4+ thumb chords are difficult to play but I can still play most of the chord. Enough to make it work & if Django can do it, I've got no excuse! :-)

  • @dingoswamphead

    Thanks Sven. Very clever ways of playing efficiently. I will practise at 1/4 speed and maybe eventually get up to half the speed you play ;^) PS You have a brilliant la pompe style.

  • @strings41
    @strings41 Před 8 měsíci

    At least on one of Django's recordings (1940) they did not play Bb but instead back to D minor. The first time I heard Dark Eyes was in the 1950's by Chet Atkins. He definitely did not play Bb (he recorded in E minor so Bb would have been C which he did not play.) It seems that now days on most recordings they do play the Bb. I wonder when that came into the changes. Also, most classical renditions of Dark Eyes do not include the Bb chord.

    It's OK messing up B flat with B, C sharp with C, etc. You show and tell us the left hand locations. To me that's a thousand times better than only saying the chords right.

    I am always surprised to see the down votes. How can anyone find something to criticize here? If these people are so talented that they find these lessons beneath them, they simply don’t have to watch. Meanwhile for the rest of us who need the help and appreciate Sven’s efforts, a huge thank you for making this easy to understand.

    I've been seeing a lot of people use m7b5 voicings for m6 (for obvious reason) but is the entirely kosher to do?

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  Před 5 lety

      It is, minor 6 and m7b5 is exactly the same thing.
      Dm6: d f a b
      Bm7b5,: b d f a.
      That means they share the same voicing, patterns, everything

      @@Dcham312 it that context: definitely.
      When you do fingerstyle the bass note makes a difference but the things I'm teaching here are the common solutions of the style (gypsy jazz) I promise 😉
