I'm glad to see you're doing well :) I played on launch and got my Gunslinger to Papunika and completed that first raid that came out, and the clown dungeon. I loved the gameplay, but I'm a competitive person and I want to be doing the newest raids and content when it comes out. it felt like to be able to do that consistently, I'd either have to treat the game like a full time job, or drop a considerable amount of real money on the game, neither of which I am willing to do.
I had many friends experience basically the exact same issue. Not only was there daily content that was mandatory (if you want to be in raid groups as soon as the new raid is released) to grind, it was also more efficient to also do those on alts, and then you have gathering of giants hearts, exploration, islands. rapport, cards, travelling merchants - So many things that felt necessary to someone who wants to play the game at a high level that require so much time. I would like to let my skill as a player dictate how far I can progress, not how much time I'm willing to sink in or how much money i'm willing to spend.
I don't have an issue spending money on games that I enjoy, I bought the platinum founders pack, and a couple of skins, and would've definitely bought many more, but when I feel like I need to spend money to stop myself falling behind, that's a problem to me.
That in itself was enough for me to stop playing, but there was quite a few other issues, such as; Rampant botting, technical issues with the Marketplace, no marketplace API on our version - It just made me feel like I was wasting my time on an inferior version of the game.
It is as you say in your video, a game should make you want to log in and play, not feel like you have to.
wow this just hits the nail on the head for me too and i think for a LOT of other players as well.
I absolutly fricking love this game, it is by far the longest and most fun i had with an MMO, but at some point, it realy felt like more of a Job then fun. when i then got out of scool and got a real job, it just was impossible for me to continue play with the 2 - 3 hours i had a day and just slowly quit the game

A much more healthy and consumer friendly approach to game design I think, the polar opposite of lost arks systems where sometimes you can feel like a hostage. My hope for the next year is that they focus less on player retention, addiction and fomo.

7:07 thats a terrible mentality some players have. you DON'T HAVE TO MIN MAX. Just enjoy whatever you want, the content will still be there... I only have 1 character and he is 1450 and I'm having a lot of fun and will probably never burn out. Just relax and dont treat the game like its your work (unless you make money from it like Sywo).
I am not a big gamers myself, but i have to say as guu with 4k hours you are the most honest streamer, which i followed since before the launch, you always keep it real and most importantly you give honest advices from your own experience and not pushing anyone to fallow metas or discourage people from playing it.

After 4,489 hours i've bunred out by the repeatitve content. The dailies, th samey weekly raids routine- i just can't anymore!
I've returned for the Year One event because they have finally released the skins that ive been waiting for an entire year !!! I may buy them, i may not - but Lost Ark is truely grinded me down to not wanting to touch it anymore :(
I quit LoA 1month in at release, now I'm back, there's actual end-game content and ways to get there. Now I really enjoy the game, it is sad the release turned away so many people

To me, the game design is awesome, but the sheer number of things you need to do, to collect, in order to build your character, and how SG "forces" you to do things just made the game not enjoyable anymore. I was genuine excited for the game when it launched, but after a couple of months, I got burnt out from LA so much and never wanted to experience that type of feeling again. Good luck to Lost Ark. It's very unfortunate.

On topic: I love the game. I have just under 3000 hours and 6 chars at 1500 (the 6th since literally yesterday). It has been an AMAZING journey for me, mostly because LoA doesn't gatekeep me with my guild like wow did (last and only mmo i played, until wotlk). Sometimes I do runs with my guild, teach newer players etc. but there are also weeks where I play strictly solo and basically never interact with people apart from the occasional "7-1" , "b" or "tyfp" in chat. And the game allows me to do that, which I love. I work with groups of people most days so in my private time I enjoy some peace and quite if it's possible :D
The bots, DCs etc. suck we all know that and I hope things get fixed - but honestly it doesn't bother me that much. The one negative for me was the Brel release. It just felt rushed and came out at a bad time. I know at least 5 people in my guild who basically got out at that point, because they wanted to take a break and knew when they came back they would be forever behind. Other than that I'm mostly fine with everything. I have found a good way to balance the content, I raid on 3 days (2 chars per day) on the others I only do quick dailies which takes like 1-2h and then occasionally I take my time playing a new character and doing boss rush/cubes etc.
I put 1300 hours into this game and before the new year - I had to take a break. I was quite sick of doing the same guardian raid/chaos dungeons 12 times each day. The mere thought of Pheons made me sick and to be honest, the market in general. And the lack of skins. Because of these reasons, I am not tempted to come back anymore. One thing I miss though is the combat. They nailed that part of the game.
Why did you do 12 GR/CD a day? There's this thing called rest bonus and stronghold voyages which cuts that 24 runs/day down to 6. You also get the freedom to decide to do more one day or less on another. Also if you aren't bad on gold you can completely ignore GR as well. I will never understand people that run all these extra GRs for piddly gold(4x less than a rested run) if they don't find it fun.
Finally decided to let go of LOA after downing Brel a few times. This game and MMO in general just takes too much time and I need to focus on IRL with work, staying in shape etc. But it has been a really fun year. I do not regret the time and money that I spent. It was really great, and the most fun I had gaming since the Burning Crusade. Thank you Sywo for being part of my LOA journey. Maybe I'll relapse, maybe I won't. I'll catch your vids if they pop up on my feed, bro. Take care, wishing you and LOA itself the best.

I have just been playing slowly, many gifts expired because I did not want to just rush through the game to get to high level. Made the destroyer to start with, not knowing what I wanted to main so all chests, and rewards are still in my stash waiting to be opened. I am at about level 41 and in no hurry to get to end game. One thing I will say is that there are so many things it gets confusing. We get given stones to craft with no real understanding of what would be best for characters. Through rewards and quests we are given engraving imprints, recipes etc all of these I have left unopened until I can find a good guide on what best to do with them. As you say, yes, it is overwhelming many of the guides work on the theory that people have some knowledge about these things. In one of the guides 0 - 50 leveling it would be good if someone showed/explained what they did with equipment and all these skill items as they received them during the leveling process, may be a long video but it could be broken down into sections. May be useful to stop some that leave because overwhelmed. I followed a lot of what you did back in Aion days, keep up the good work.

I just took a break after X-mas. It was very hard to log on during the holidays and I dont know if its due to the lost ark community but I felt like I fell behind for once. I plan on coming back soon and just logging in as a average Joe going forward. Keep up the great work and I love your content and thanks for keeping me up to date on all the news. Also my wife is very happy that I took a break. LOL

After 3800+ hours and most of my static already burned out I wish they would reduce the homework, namely the 2 chaos dungeon and 2 guardian to just 1 a day would be great. I was fun while it lasted.

I've got an achievement 365 Days Perfect Attendance. :-) I've been playing since the first day of EU/NA launch (8th February 2022). I am f2p player, I bought only Founder Pack. I have only 1 char +1490 ilevel. My Sorc is 1534, Zerker 1480, Reaper 1475, Deathblade 1475, Summoner 1460, Glaivier 1445, Paladin 1415.
I'm happy that you still enjoy the game and hopefully make decent money through it! I left LA with 1.4k hours and multiple 1500s. After doing g6 brel on 3 chars I decided to leave. Its a great game, but core of its really bad and unhealthy. Plus being second category citizens after Korea sucks ass. One thing, I'll never play a game published by ags.
Some of my friends have gotten fat and unhealthy since playing LA. Literally feel bad for them. That is all they do. Chores like it is their job
@Sywo you said something that got me out of the game, you talked about pvp'ing and giving up other chore, it's my dealbreaker. I finished brel 1510 bard + 5 5/3 alts all bel 1-4 ready, and I can't keep up with all the daily stuff. Filling up every dot it's another job to be honest and I can't keep up with my job/family + lost ark. Too much commitment.
One Chaos, One Guardian per day. That will go a long way to fixing the burnout issues of the game.

I started lost ark with playing alot of alts and I actually didn't get burned out from it, it was just so frustrating to find a group to do legion raids that I just stopped playing alts. It got so far that finding a group took longer than actually doing the run and at that point it just felt like a waste of time. I would rather do the run with 7 beginners teaching them how to do the fight than wait in the lobby and hope that there are some people who finally are joining my lobby. It didn't even matter that I used the valtan inferno title...
Don't be antisocial in a MMO. Join a guild. My guild does nearly nonstop signup raids on wed/thur/sat and if I sign up with my main 6, I can get them all done on these days. Lots of other people do statics that do the raids together in a group and they do them one after the other.
I feel you, I came from FF14 where I would do my raids and then I could do anything I wanted to as nothing was mandatory. I also would get bored as I’d achieve my objective of getting BIS and then look for other games to play. With lost Ark I enjoy it as I always have something to do when I jump online but I also feel it’s mandatory and if I am doing let’s say south Vern than I am skipping out on a raid or two that night. I never thought I would say a mmo has to much content. Or maybe it’s to much mandatory content.
It’s the Fomo. I play ff14 as well, only the savage and ultimate tiers. LA is just too Busy, but it is by design to keep players addicted. I dropped it long time go. Trash game tbh. At least with FF14, you don’t feel that fomo and psychological manipulation that LA does to its player base with layers of RNG to screw you
If FF14 had content like WoW mythic dungeons it'd be the perfect middle ground between what it is now and the grindy MMOs
If only Lost Ark had more fun side activities other than doing boring dailies and weeklies. Most of the world is useless/ ruined by bots 😅
Was thinking of coming back today....restarting on EU instead of NA since that's my actual region, The catchup grind is going to be insane it feels like - especially with gatekeeping in raids.. Thinking of just playing all support characters lol...
you have a great plan if you want to mainly play supports. they're also getting buffed in damage so who knows what possibilities that unlocks for some diversity

I have played lost ark waaaaayyyy to much, but I am still not even (close) at half the number of hours he has done.
I think I will main Slayer so in the meantime i will farm hundreds of thounsands of materials and focus on finishing this second season on diamond.
I stopped playing from burn out.... too many alts for me.
It was like adding weight to an elastic band. 3 was good for me (one per day), but adding more and more just made the band snap and I stopped.
I could go back and try 3 again, and I might do it.

Its kinda scary that Sywo cant see how predatory this game is. Played 12 characters for 2 months, but still needed a little bit more of a boost.
Imagine what 10 hours a day can get you in a job or even just go with friends and family.
Sywo is not the only 1, anyone who has "kept up" is basically playing lost ark like a job. And yes professionally and personally its only a waste.
Well said man, it's so sad how MMORPGs are manipulated atm. I mean if you make a living out of it and make nice money I do understand but other than that is a big loss of time and energy and the list can go on because I've been there and I'm talking from my experience with games that are made like this. I do advise others to play games that respect your time, trust me whatever you say to yourself so that you can feel better at the end of the day is not worth it man. Stay safe, and focus on yourself and your love ones, that's all that matters.

I fell behind on things I have to do on my business when I used to play Lost Ark when it launched. No way to catch up when you can only play 1 hour a day. 😂
I didn't hit 1370... quit, and came back for the class I actually wanted to play, summoner. now I am 1480 and have 4x3. I am enjoying the game. and want to learn to play. that break, had I not taken it, I would not be here playing today, the burn out would of been complete.
In previous CZcams videos i think you had double Artillerists - did you delete one, if so why and why did you not take Artillerist higher?
I was madly hooked on the game at launch but 200 hours in as I was grinding chaos dungs on my 5th character I asked myself why the fuck am I doing this and quit there and then.

Stopped back in early August with an almost average of 5 hours a day. Felt to be way too much, perspective is pretty crazy in this case. I haven't the slightest clue how you've managed over 10 hours a day...

Average Joe here. They need more horizontal content. Every content patch is like a higher ilvl. It's normal and fine, its' only been a year... but eventually will need a reset to get new blood. New people don't start a game they feel way behind on. Problem is since many people paid real $$$ I don't even know how a reset would work without enraging people.

Im in an even sadder position with my hours played. Im at 3750 with only 1475 as my highest ilvl and I didnt play for 3 months of the yr its been out so Im nearly 14 hrs a day when I do play.
people should never have accepted and normalized playing 20 characters daily. i know "nobody forces you to play" but then again maybe that mentality is why we don't have nice things anymore :)

The client takes 20 years to launch so I just leave it up all day, my hours are probably less than a 5th of what’s actually displayed

I really enjoy Lost Ark but atm in the west we are in a very weird position. We just ended or are working towards getting upper relic gear doing a raid with 6 gates. Sure you don't NEED to do all 6 just only 2 technically but you lose in a lot of maths an takes a lot longer to get your relic sets. And the next content is the same raid with more gimmicks AND YOU HAVE TO BUILD A NEW SET OF ARMOR in Ancient. I feel like having to do a 6 gate raid is very exhausting specially when Brel by design you have to sit and wait a lot in g5-6 wich make overgearing unrewarding in a weird way. If we could do only 1-6 and get all the gold from other raids or do 1-2 and other 2 raids; or 1-4 and another raid that will improve a lot the burnout and exhaustion in the current end game. In my opinion, I can't wait to never do brel again she was fun the first 3 times now is the biggest chore you have to face. And this makes gatekeeping in Brel insane, and only get worst when the HM is out.
I just wish Aion was good again.
Yeah lost ark is full of fomo and sometimes we just need to relax and enjoy the game at our own pace. That's why a game like genshin impact is so successful even though it has many flaws.
The fact that you can fail a hone at 99.89% is why alot of people left! There are far too many rng systems in this game!

I played 1k hours in the first 3 months of this game and got so burned out that one day I couldnt log in for another set of dailies, I just had to uninstall and never come back. It felt like pure slavery and I wouldnt come back unless some big big big ass gearing changed and I mean like ffxiv/wow gearing. Im not doing guardian raids, chaos dungeons and una tasks on 6 characters every single day, no fucking way

you might have 4k total hours, but don't you sometimes do other stuff while the game is open? Me and my friends all used to do it because it takes so long to log back in if you exit the game. I had 1k hours in 6 months before I quit, but probably half of that is unplayed time. I'm curious if you did the same. If so, then the hours are not as crazy as they seem. In my case it comes to about 5.5 hours a day, but realistically I've played less, so for me it really isn't anything special. My crazy gaming days were back in 2017 where I was playing 20 games of league of legends a day which take about 10 hours + queue times, dodges, remakes and champion select. Nothing can compare to that, hahah.
this game is to complicated.i played it for 3 mounths from relase and then i noticed why the fck i m playing it,spending hours for idk that eaven worth to do.there to many things to do.game by itself is good but to complicated for me.cant eaven find where to copy paste builds for newbs coz there are all builds with lot of points and expensive engravings.i mean this game is so complicated to start.sit like 1/2 day in forums and yt and finding things what you need to know.

@@Plem_xo I'm guessing it's because the op used to play primarily in PUG's instead of a static group. The PUG experience can be toxic as you will mostly be playing with people who only care about progressing as quick as possible with little regard as to whether someone is new or still learning a raid. In a static group where you play regularly with people you're familiar with there is very little chance of toxic behaviour as you all play for enjoyment and usually have more of a teamwork focused mindset.

The game, attitudes, and issues within have only gotten better since this person quit.
As a Mokoko (new players get a buff that is visible to everyone) all you have to do is say “hey I’m new can someone help me/answer questions/do content with me” and you will be flooded with helpers most of the time.
Just realized they said it was 100x worse when they came back a month ago.
My guess is mind set issues. Korean mmos have intentional design decisions that western players don’t understand and often get annoyed about.

unfortunately this game is just doomed to stay niche and inaccessible to new players. The bus culture, the constant marketplace accessory scalping, the toxic community, the horrendous gatekeeping. It's not indicative to a good gaming experience.
Game encouraging player to create alts is the most glaring issue imo.
I mean, even the guy says it in the video. He wants to do pvp, but then he sees the guardian raids, chaos dungeons etc. which he hasn't done yet on his alts. Back to work chop chop.
Game instills this mentality to the player. You stop doing something you enjoy. That is a big problem imo.
Oh and let's not forget the "Bots".
Ever since the ilvl 1490 content release, I have been feeling overwhelmed with the game.
I used to play 12 characters every single day. Now I barely have the time and energy for more than two.
Even with a very good group Abrelshud Gate 1 through 6 still take 3 hours. Imagine.. we are sitting there for over an hour just waiting for mechanics to end, so that we can go back to punching the bosses. Gate 5 and 6 especially are such a waste of time with their mechanics and cutscenes. It adds a lot of stress for me. Five characters ready for G6 and I just want to turn off the game for the rest of the week after doing it with just one character.
Angry Dragon Carl is a an anti-fun guardian raid design. The required battle item investment is incredibly high for an underwhelming reward, both materials and fun/excitement. And even a good run takes way too long for a content, that you are expected to do 12 times per day. 1minute solo Deskaluda versus 5minutes Carl. Why would I bother with Carl? The materials from him are worthless aswell, thanks to the community.
Look at me rambling and complaining. The music in my background changed to a song, that I am very interested in right now (Trigun Stampede's Opening, "Tombi" by Kvi Baba), which made me realize, how I have been getting way to aggravated about Lost Ark again.
My point is, ever since the ilvl 1490 content release, the necessary time for just 6 characters daily and weekly has skyrocketed to a point where I feel burned out.
I do enjoy playing with you, Sywo, a lot. And I also enjoy playing with my static. Beans, even with my new G6 group I am having a good enough time to not hate my life at that moment. But I am noticing how people around me are gaining distance to the game.
Of my static one person won't be available for two months, due to work. Another has just come back from a two month Lost Ark break, still unsure if they want to play or not. And the last person is not excited to boot up the game anymore either. In the Abrelshud G6 group people are constantly talking about how they are glad to not play more than two or three characters, because of the time and energy investment needed. People in your twitch chat are quitting one after another for the same reasons.
Adding in, I am not happy about how AGS handles our version. The company is incompetent with no limit. I reported a bug not too long ago, the reply, "Thanlk you for your feedback and the suggestion." .. I didn't give feedback nor did I make a suggestion, I reported a bug, that makes the game a pain in the butt at times. The new Smilegate leadership doesn't speak to me either. I dislike the balance direction they are heading in, ignoring classes, that need and deserve a major overhaul, to nerf things, which are only strong in super giga korean-lategame, but underwhelming in our version.
I have been very frustrated with the game for almost six months now.. BUT having a streamer, whom I can watch makes this frustration a lot easier to handle.
As I said, I do enjoy playing with you, and I am very thankful, that I can be part of your community. Some people are questionable, but most of them are pretty decent people.
At the current content release pace, we might get Akkan in December. Lots to prepare until then. Hopefully AGS starts listening to players and will forward our feedback to Smilegate. But that is just a load of copium.
I don't have anything else to play and my real life is nonexistent. So, despite my frustration and the burn out, I won't quit anytime soon. Not to forget, I am preparing for Aeromancer already.

This game boi oh boi... I played it for 1.5k hours... all that was wasted time. You literally need to play the game 10 hours a day to keep up. But why would you do that, when someone who spends 1000 dollars will be ahead of you with 0 hours played (the whole month)? And the community oh god. You want the average Joes? How? Every raid group kicks you if u fail once. Nobody is willing to teach new players. If you dont have best in slot gear and specs goodbye my friend. Lost Ark has the MOST toxic MMORPG community by far. BY FAR. On its own, the game is not bad. Buying best in slot gear and specs with real life money and YOU GUYS, the community of lost ark ruined the game. And if you needed to choose between p2w and the community regarding which is the worst, the community is miles ahead. Period. These are facts.
