    Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Notes from North California about 50 miles from Oregon one or two miles from the coast.. Soil is pretty good for about a foot then heavy clay. My trees are about a foot above ground. I have a Wurz, Zutano, Stewart, Hass and a Mexicola. We had a rare snow this winter, several nights the upper 20's. The Hass lost almost all its leaves (5th year) but coming back. The Mexicola survived (2nd year)very well as did the Stewart (3rd year) The wurtz lost most of its leaves (1st year) but coming back and the Wurtz (6th year) came through bushy and strong. But none have produced any fruit although most have produced some flowers. We don't get a lot of bees, so this year I'm planting flowers that attract bees around the avocados. (Will try the honey water spray when flowering) Typical winter - lows in the mid to high 30's, low 40's, Summer lows 50's high's 70's and some 80's. Any ideas on getting more flowering? Thanks!

    Thank you so much for this video. I bought an Americana Persea in the Florida keys. took it home to Michigan, transplanted to a wooden half barrel in Miracle grow soil and put it in my greenhouse. It grew a 4' trunk and was beautiful for 8 months. Sadly, It looks terrible now. Leaves are yellow and brown and no new growth. I've watched your video and have learned how to purge the soil from its roots and repot it in a clean pot with Top Pot soil. Fingers crossed... It will not die. I love my tree! I just need to get some proper soil in Michigan !! Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

    Thanks Gary, I'll watch this weekend. I was just wondering if you had an update on growing avocados. This cold winter is stressing my younger trees.

    Gr8 presentation, m8!
    Couple of questions:
    1. Which variety oxidizes slowest (best for guacamole)
    2. Does girdling increase fruit set
    3. When is best time to graft
    4. What don’t nurseries produce multi-grafted avocados for backyard gardeners.
    Cheers. John OC CRFG

    Great video! In NorCal, all avocado suppliers use wood chip in their pots. Any good tips on how to remove wood chips and minimize transplant shock? Thank you.

      Look through Gary's videos on his channel. He has gone over the process of removing the old soil. From my experience most plants actually perk up and do better when transplanted into soil without compostable materials mixed in. It's like a breath of fresh air for them literally.

      @@BigBassTurd his videos show how to remove the wood chips from house plants. None about removing wood chips from the avocado roots. I was told to be careful to not disturb the roots. What techniques are there to do it? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

      There is only 1 solution. Buy the tree from Gary. Then buy the Top Pot soil from Gary.

    you don't need to clear the dirt from the roots from the nursery? i thought they plant it in organics and that would rot? or am i mistaken what they planted it in?

    Can I plant directly into my 40gallon pots? I’ve always wondered why they say to do up-potting instead of going into the final home.

    • @chinatownboy7482
      @chinatownboy7482 Před rokem +1

      In nature, the tree starts as a seed in it's final home. The animals don't nurse the seeds into seedlings, and up-pot them gradually. Only humans at plant nurseries do that.

      it's more about resource optimisation. Not all avos are vigorous, so staging your plants in smaller pots lets you select the largest and healthiest ones to move into expensive large pots.
