As the outbreak of a deadly virus grips the world, I sit at home at the start of lockdown, looking at the pile of hard drives that scatters my desk. For years I have been documenting what I have been doing as a pro kiteboarder, with one purpose. To show you what kitesurfing is all about, to represent the sport in the best way possible and give back to the industry that has given me so much over the years. Kite boarding is a sport that has the power to change lifestyle, to create jobs and enhance our awareness of our surroundings in every way. I believe that this can also educate us into respecting the natural elements that create the playgrounds that we all use and love, in-turn inspiring change in out behaviours...
However, first it is about making the sport more accessible and as fun as possible so that more people can benefit from the unique freedoms that the sport can offer. This is achieved at ground level, by the brands and factories that design and build the equipment that allows us to get into the elements and keep shredding to the best of our ability. The strongest, lightest and most enduring equipment that enables pro riders like myself to push the limits of what is possible and explore the edges of reality.
For over 20 years I have let kiteboarding take me on a journey that has opened up the world for me. Exploring new destinations, meeting amazing people and experiencing things that I would never have seen if it wasn't for the sport. From competitions to events and now finding the true meaning of free riding as I come to create my 4th movie in the Freeride Project series.

Inspiring 🪂 and fantastic to see behind the scenes with kite and board manufacture. Loved the beach shore kiting with dog chasing, very artistic and joyous. Well, part of the kite industry and not that much changes between brands as it’s the same factory that produces a lot of kites… I tried to show behind the scenes as much as I could. Thanks for watching 🤟

Keep up the good work and shoot some more random clips for filler or chop some random bits from the cutting room floor. Wish I could kite as much as you do. Hard to make the sport accessible when some of the manufacturers are charging $4k for a single kite. It becomes a sport for the wealthy. To achieve a nice quiver these days it will cost you a great deal of money that the average person does not have to spend.
Not sure if accessible is the correct word to use for kiteboarding.
When I am riding and get to the end of my session many people young and old ask me how much for the gear. When I break it down for them they usually tell me they can’t afford it.
I have been blessed with a career in the business world that has made it easier for me to afford all the equipment.Again, I struggle with the average person being able to afford this beautiful sport.
So we can agree that accessible is not the correct word for this sport.
I am not sure I have the answer. All I can say it’s a shame because more people should be able to enjoy it!
I noticed the launcher is chairing the meeting at 22:35. Is he taking some time off from the demands of launching? Inevitable that he would monetise his talent in the corporate world
He’s running the whole show mate... don’t think he would let these office types control the idustry to you ;)

Fair enough, Duotone (b&m) has been a part of my life and a lot of other riders life’s... they have facilitated opportunities for many people!! That’s the way it is... if I was riding another brand it would be different for sure...
@@tomcourtkite I completely understand, and I have no issue with B&M of course, I just feel it could have given more insight on the behind the scenes of the industry rather than just a pretty visual tour of the facilities spots etc. I guess what I mean is that it could have gone a bit more in depth of all the things you have access to compared to the average amateur kiter. You have done a great job in other videos, this felt a bit shallow. That said the images a great

It would be ok if it had a different name like "Welcome to Duotone" or "Duotone, duotone, duotone". Naming this piece "Freeride Project" was a dirty trick to make people who enjoyed those legendary edits interested in the new completely irrelevant content.
Freeride project was an amazing video which had a huge impact on the sport. This new edit has nothing to do with it and will be forgotten in a week.

Sorry you think so, the freeride project is a collection of edits that has followed me though my career... and although it is all Duotone, it is about the people that do it... There is no trick there, I am sponsored by Duotone so my access is such... it is a free insight into that side of the industry that has allowed all of us (Aaron, Sam and James) to live from this sport... and to show some of the processes that allow that. It the freeride project again as I filmed this in the back ground of what I was doing naturally. I didn’t set out to make this movie. It was made from what was happening around me... just like the others. Time changes and moves on. We can’t go backwards...
