    Thank you for this nice lecture. I like how you chose a game with simple basic shapes like enclosures and 2 points extensions, in order to make us focus on your subject. Mission accomplished.

    The double recording of the board and your head is nifty. And with the green screen it's cool that your arms and the board and lids appear above the background overlay.

    Thanks for the lesson! I liked how you paused a bit so we could think of what moves to play :)

    33:07 -> instead of that atari, I'd rather drop down as black with the stone white attached to just one move before... That way, if white decides to save his cutting stone in the corner, black can connect underneath. Also later in your variation you need to connect that stone, that I'm implying you should dropdown. If you simply dropped down, that connection is no longer required and white's connection of the diagonal pair of stones to the big lump of other white stones would end up in white's diagonal pair of stones being captured

    Great video, great game and very nice overlay! Much better than the last one, imo, and as we see you moving around, it feels natural. The dual head video capturing is neat, that's a mark of pro! :-) There were some small fringing problems with the green (on the corner that's your lower left when taping) and the board is slightly rotated clockwise (not much, but we can see it's not parallel to the screen) but, as I have already commented, that's okay, in real life go playing is much messier than on the computer...) So, great video and, as one of my favourite series, amazing video at that. Keep it up! :-)

      ***** Yeah i had it lined up, but must have bumped the board when sitting down. And if you mean that bit on the right above "name" on abc's name plate, that's the cuff of my pants leg and its shadow. didn't realize it was in the shot.

      dwyrin :-) never mind, it's amazing as it is, and as a bonus we get to see your facial expressions as well, which is neat because, even when you have gone over the games like a bazillion times, you still get surprised and amazed with the moves and strategies and that passion shows up... +1!!! :-)

    Hey the visuals lok really grat, But would it be possible for you to adjust the greenscren so that your head never reaches outside of its reach? because then the the visual illusion would be complete and i think it would look even greater;)! Feel that every time the top off your head gets cut off it breaks the feeling off you actually blending with the background. Just a little ting but think that would be amazing;)!

    Good overlay, just the flicker over the captured stones but it's ok. Could you try reversing the board so that your top right is not our bottom left ? Fun game/lecture too.

    i appreciate this channel very much. i would recommend any type of carpet and sufficient indirect light, less is more :D

      @dwyrin  Před 9 lety +1

      poreofthemachine Not a fan of overlays then? I can respect that. I just feel that it's easier to put extra information into the video with it.

    • @poreofthemachine
      @poreofthemachine Před 9 lety

      dwyrin I see, but maybe you can do those in kgs where you require variations, comparing stuff faster, lots of info, while working less to modify the video. the real board videos are closer to the real thing, sound, light and texture. to take that away makes it strange to me. but bro, being grateful for this good channel, cheers.

    Fantastic lecture! One future suggestion, you may want to flip the camera orientation so that the top of the board is the top of the screen, the left of the board is the left of the screen. It would make your commentary more consistent with what is shown on the video.

      Thomas May That sounds good in theory, but I believe I've heard other go content producers mention in YT comments that that doesn't work as well as it sounds like it would. I'm not sure why, but I wouldn't be to surprised if this is the best way to have it set up.

    • @Shenzao
      @Shenzao Před 9 lety +3

      Thomas May That's a good thought, and you're right to some extent. Interestingly, I would have agreed with you if not for an interesting series of thoughts that occurred to me throughout the video. We're sitting where white sits. He's simultaneously teaching the game and preparing his students over the web to handle descriptors likely to be used by an opponent critiquing and reviewing moves at the end of games in a club or tournament setting. Honestly, with things set up as they are, I feel included in the game because of its consistency with what I would experience when discussing a game across a real board in real life. To some extent, I also feel respected for being offered white's seat despite clearly not having the skill to compete with the individual I'm learning from.
      I wonder if these are legitimate considerations.

      I didn't think of that, but those are some good points. Maybe this _is_ actually _better_ than seeing the board from black's perspective.

  • @SebastiaanAndeweg
    @SebastiaanAndeweg Před 9 lety

    Yaay for the overlay. How about 'Black' and 'White' instead of 'Name' and 'Name'? But it looks good :) keep going!

      NeoAlmost it has always been this way.... we are already used to it... :-)
      Edit: I mean, he already struggles not to mix black and white, let's cut him some slack... ;-) this is actually much harder than it looks.

      NeoAlmost I hope that when my capture card comes in i'll be able to adjust the angle in real time so i can flip the board without screwing the perspective. Till then ill work on my use of descriptions ^^

      ***** It really is! Because every move you're a different person with different interests on the board.

  • @Ibakecookiess

    at 22:55 why does the diagonal move prevent the connection underneath?

    • @sloughpacman
      @sloughpacman Před 9 lety

      Ibakecookiess Yes, I was wondering about this too! There is another instance at 12:20 where Dwyrin suggests the same about the diagonal move.
      Can anyone explain why the connection underneath is not viable after placing a diagonal stone?

    • @8DX
      @8DX Před 9 lety

      Ibakecookiess Bah YT eats up ascci go board representations. Trying smaller:
      Why you can't cut at the top:
      A - atari the middle stone.

    Yes, but how can we double digit kyu players see the agi if you don't draw over the board with cheesy colours? Ha? Ha?
    (jk, makes a lot of sense. Great video, when I stopped the video to think and read I saw 3-4 of the places with aji for both situations, even in the corner except not that far a throw-in. That was too hard to read seemed black could easily just defend =)

    • @dwyrin
      @dwyrin  Před 8 lety +2

      +21madalin It's the potential left over in a position after that position is 'resolved'. In this game i used examples where us weak players would run away or go make 2 eyes just to defend ourselves, however professional players saw potential to turn the entire game on its head.
