I'm so grateful that he listened to me when going to college. He majored in Criminal Justice then went to the police academy. Its not just the NYPD where that's happening. Its happening in most major cities. I am an officer in Washington DC 26 years on the job and many people with my time and age have retired. The younger officers who are often college educated bail out as they have options rather than put up with the BS. Couple that with bail reform BS here, a progressive idiot prosecutor's office that treats you like you are the true criminal, and people are leaving in droves. There are a number of factors
    1. Anti-Cop attitude from the communities.
    2. Ridiculously low starting salary
    3. Bail reform
    4. Impossible procedures which makes it hard to do their jobs.

I got arrested and hit with 2 felony counts of aggravated assault and 4 misdemeanors ( including 3 charges for a 1 year old grand baby that their own grandmother endangered by chasing me ). Cops didn’t care to hear my side of it they just processed me and dumped me in jail. Only reason I’m out on bail was a magistrate cared enough to realize I would possibly loose my job for a no call no show cause I was stuck there overnight. That’s in SW Pennsylvania btw the judge only hit me for bail on 1 aggravated assault charge then cut my bail from 5k to 2500. Still have a preliminary hearing to deal with. Correct. As long as they’re black it’s irrelevant if they have felonies. Because white supremacy.

Nobody ever wondered how a city with vastly higher minority members than whites doesn't have more minorities in the police? Minorities don't want to be cops because they see how cops get treated every single day.

Actually it is. After speaking to a number of current and retired cops from LI who worked in the city their prejudice and bigotry was extremely alarming. Friendly guys sure but difference in how they approached ppl of color they knew vs those they didn’t made me happy I never encountered any of them.

Sadly law enforcement has worn out their good will with the community. For far too long the minority of abusive Cops in the otherwise noble profession were not held accountable for their transgressions. The pendulum has swung the other way now. Today the citizenry is overly critical of the Police. To the point that it's blunting good police work. Trust has been eroded and it will take a long time to rectify the problem.

I think the marketing sucks for police.
Look at the Florida sheriff, Grady Judd....he loves going on camera to highlight all the good that his department does because he knows cops need good PR now more than ever.
Highlight the good that cops do to counterbalance the negative headlines.
That really should be the job of the Commissioner, but that position is appointed so he is answerable to the Mayor, not the sheriff who is directly elected.

Yea, I've seen too many videos of NYPD abusing their power and just generally treating people like shit. It's happening everywhere, but it is exceedingly bad in places like NY, LA, etc.
We need better training, making them more knowledgeable about law, and actually getting people in these positions that want to help their community rather than flex their power or this is gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
I've had my fair share of encounters with Law enforcement even where I live and they have made me wary when near a police officer because they could be a good person, but they could also just be a dirtbag trying to pad their numbers. They say they don't have quotas, but that is a major lie and is another thing that needs to go out the window. There should not be a requirement for arrests or tickets.
