This interview showed how poor the American perception has on ASEAN and most importantly Indonesia. America is clearly wanting Indonesia and ASEAN to pick sides. Food security, regional peace and truce in Ukraine were overlooked by the Americans. It is really unfortunate that a country with stature such as the USA is provoking tensions and war to break out in the Asian region; how could he just said there would be military conflict in 2027. John should be ashamed when the president deftly answered the first four questions and not fell to the provocation tactics. The world will be a tough place to live in if the only way to go up is by pulling someone else down. That kind of thinking is archaic.

For us who understand Javanese culture (President Jokowi is Javanese) and Asian culture in general, the way the President is responding has already sent a clear message of his (and Indonesia's) standpoint on US-China's conflict. In a regular social communication setting in Indonesia, the person who posed such questions would have already backed off & no longer further pursued in such an ignorant & impolite manner. The questions were posed as if the President or Indonesians were not observant of how the overall conflict was started and developing.

I see his policies as a strong push towards greater economy and wealth of Indonesia people. The president spoke just fine, his tone is very respectful and he showed a great deal of humility. Very regrettable that the English-translated voiceover ruins it. But hopefully when someday Indonesia economic is growing much faster, US will treat Indonesia like an enemy similar to what happened to China. That ridiculously sounds ridiculous.😆
If they want to win the market. then adjust the products to the markets' need. For example: Indonesia street is relatively narrow, so if they want to sell cars in Indonesia, they need to adjust the car size etc accordingly or if they want Indonesia to have a much wider road then invest in it!

His the best Indonesia leader after Soekarno. Journalists question him from A-Z. And President Jokowi answers perfectly straight. We as Indonesian love peace. We believe as a human fix problem with talking got solutions for win win solutions, that’s what we do. War or fight not solutions.

Nope, Sukarno is only 1 place above Suharto.
Jokowi is place 2nd. Habibie is on the top. Followed by Jokowi and SBY. Then Abdurrachman Wakhid. That's the best 4 for me. The worst trio were Sukarno, Suharto and Megawati. There were 2 opressive dictators and 1 do nothing president in the worst trio group.

Indonesia indeed an open and active country but everything depends on who want to be our bestfriend. China has economically help us in more on economic side and US on defence side. If US wants to put a stronger influence in Indonesia not only as defence friend but also economic friend, it can be from Elon Musk hand. This at least can reduce China economic mutual influence in Indonesia if US wants it and see Indonesia as important country politically in Indo pacific..
