In this video from Robby's trip to Japan in 2019, Robby and his friend Darrell took a ferry to Chiba Prefecture (just south of Tokyo across the bay) to see Mt. Nokogiri (also known as Nokogiriyama or 鋸山), translated roughly as the sawtooth mountain. This mountain used to be a rock quarry in the Edo period (roughly 1603 to 1868), but now is a popular hiking destination.
The remnants of the stone quarry were a really cool sight, but there were a ton of other interesting Japanese landmarks including the hyaku-shaku kannon (a giant relief statue), the nihonji temple daibutsu (a giant buddha statu), and jigoku nozoki (hell lookout). After climbing up the mountain, you can take a cable car back to the bottom.

Hiya, what is the first castle?
"Say something profound."
"Coffee in the morning is a great way to start the day."
-Well said my friend. Well said!
Almost 2023 and I am still here enjoying the visuals.
That forest temple music was perfectly placed 💚. The music and editing in general was fantastic. You outdid yourself, Robby!
Wow! Japan story again! I'm Japanese and I've always checked your amazing hiking videos. I'm glad you guys to visit Japan and making hiking videos! Thank you!
Rattle snakes are also not aggressive unless you practically step on them. They even warn you to not get bit and be aware of them with their rattle. I never worry about rattle snakes while hiking because they have their own alarm system!
Agree on that riding a ferry feels like a start of an adventure

honestly , I nearly fainted due to just how beautiful and amazing Japan is. Your shots are top notch. the friendship was really enjoyable too.
20:36 I saw Sagat there, you can't trick me, i'm older than you! XD
Was looking for this comment :)
I’m watching from behind my hands and shouting “get away from there”” 15 months later! Loving it!
The editing and music on this vid is top notch! Like at one point it gave me goosebumps. Thanks for sharing your trip good sir..
Both you are great!! You both make us Japanese rediscover our own country!! I know that there is such a place in Japan for the first time.
7:28 Did you notice him? "" Owakari itadaketa deshouka?"" He must be a ghost LOL!!!!
15:39 「安全第一」 means ' Your safety is the most important.'
Please come to Kyushu island!!
So happy to see Darrell! Also love the quarry exploration!
Love the Zelda references and music btw
Wow. Your buddy Darrel took you to a Most Cool place. And to think it was his second choice! Makes you wonder what the first trail he chose is like. The vertical bluffs and stunning vistas, stairs worn from so many footsteps, ancient shrines, the ridges and precision cuts in the stone they carved makes me wonder how they did that. And you would have had to send a helicopter to come pick me up from the rope way parking lot dead end, I would have died on the stairs. Thanks for taking us along!
I saw the last video in the series first.
Two things:
1) epic selection of background music
2) the cinematography and choice of shots just keeps getting better with each video
5:47 that was the Training vessel JS Yamayuki, formerly JS Yamayuki Destoryer 129. She was decommissioned in March of 2020! You're so lucky to catch her pulling into port on her last mission!
Wow that’s really cool, had no idea. Thanks for the info!
Looking forward to your upcoming JAPAN trip! Rewatching all your past JAPAN trip vlogs!
Ahhh the Ocarina of Time forest temple 🎶 was perfect...I honestly 💭 that rock quarry type of place reminded me of the forest temple when you mentioned about how places like that could inspire the creation of the Legend of Zelda & I was so pleasantly surprised as I heard the forest temple 🎶 suddenly start playing😁👍🏻👍🏻.Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask are STILL my favorite Zelda games to this day because they touched upon really deep topics like transitioning from a child & being a adult, the loneliness of not being recognized by others either in a strange new land or due to many years passing, both the lighter & darker aspects of humanity, etc🙂.I played those games as a little girl & they still have a impact on me even now as a adult.
Should've named it, "train, planes, and automobiles!"
Man, editing ON POINT in this one, guys. *clapping*
NICE MUSIC N NATURE.ALL OF U R INSPIRING
Another great video. So peaceful and relaxing yet it also makes me excited for the adventure.
We were in Japan in November, mostly touring, so we saw lots of places but none for very long. And now I want to go straight back! There seem to be so many observatories in Japan, each one more epic than you'd think possible. Impeccable editing and filming as ever.
This video is superb, Robby. Of course all the videos you make are good, but there’s a rare magic in these scenes. Something about the pacing in the editing that matches the music really brings it together nicely. Hopefully someone on the “Travel Japan” tourism board sees this and gets you to make their ads. Well done.
Darrell just show how effortless steps climbing are..... Are you for hire? I want you to be my hiking guide 😁 with all that snacks in your bag I will never go hungry😂
First buddha...17:20....second buddha....20:20.... That place looks well preserved. Good example of an original temple. The best part was seeing the quarry marks, and the koi fish....12:20....
That hike looks so cool. Love the abandoned quarry! Japan is really high on our bucket list, so may have to add this to the itinerary!
Love the vlogs
Amazing cant wait to watch this
places like japan and china that are so ancient (i mean ALL the lands in the world are ancient) but these places are the ones who KEPT these temples are carvings and sacred places/spaces (unlike colonizing people who strive to tear down and ruin ancient things) are so beautiful I cant articulate the words that i feel when I see images of them. not still photos, they dont wow me, but videos, my god, makes me want to jump on a plane and live in these places for short times and move on.
Great images!
Loved this!!
Another great video Robby!
Great video 👍. Brought back memories of my trip to Japan when a student back in 1995. Amazing place to visit 🙂
Stunning!
Excellent video! The editing and the use of your own music is fantastic!!
Another nice one! 👍
Great Mini doc can’t wait for more.
10:33 Ahhh that moment when the soundtrack and the visual work as one! That's a big Buddah. ;O)
This was such a fun video to watch. Great job!
Your videos never disappoint, only a few minutes in and the anticipation is building,...I'm on a virtual adventure this morning!
The music is always on point 👌
I was just listening to the forest temple track the other day, great video!
In Florida, we don't mess around with Seagulls! They can get very aggressive! Hawks, now that's on a whole different level. By the way, thanks for opening up my eyes and heart to your adventures, Adventure Archives. 💚
I love how he just bring Darrel just a designated tripod carrier. LOL great videos guys !
Loved this video. Great shots, editing and music. And ofcourse the hike was very nice too!
Some of the shots in this video were👌👌
ps lol the end😂
Wow, this is one of your best videos yet. Great location, shots, editing, and everything else. Thought the various far away shots where you sit the camera down and point at two of you were great to give context and give it a movie feel. Great stuff keep it up!
Great, inspiring video, Robby! I appreciate the captions naming the sights.
I binge watch all of your japan 2019 videos!! And it's so relaxing and it feels like im travelling too!!
So great! Music, editing, commentary, photography, all of it!
this makes me miss Japan so much. thanks for doing this series, I love the music choice and steady shots too. stay safe!
As always, flawless composition and editing. Probably my favorite of your shorter videos!
Enjoyed my time watching your amazing adventure hike👌💯

I remember that TOP GEAR episode very well, glad you made the pilgrimage so that I have a better frame of reference for when I want to do it for myself! Thank so much..
Music in the videos is gorgeous! Really like that! So peaceful and calm everytime.
I went on a ferry from Seattle to Bainbridge the woman at the ticket counter told them to wait because they were about to leave I could have waited for another one but the crew and captain waited for me sooo my excitment was exactly like yours I was sooo excited and happy!
Superb shooting nd editing
Some of that scenery was breath-taking. And that was just through the screen. Amazing.
Absolutely stunning footage! Well done Robby!! That looked like a wonderful way to spend the day. Too bad part of the trail was closed. Looking forward to the rest of your trip! Thanks!

So happy when I heard the forest temple music Great video Robby. I’ve enjoyed every one of your Japan vlogs and adventure archive videos You guys are great. Hope you’re all staying safe and healthy during these weird times.
Cool video, hope you share more.
I literally was waiting for one of you mentioning TopGear. Very glad it didn't go unnoticed.
I keep coming back to re-watch this video! Soooo wonderfully put together! I’ll bet I’ll be commenting on this video again in the future because I’ll have forgotten I’ve praised this vid cos I keep coming back hahah! Good work!!!!
I have been to Japan many times. This is an easy hike, will go.
Awesome adventure!!!!!!!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. The editing is fantastic. Your eye for what is captured is spot on - lingering on just the right subject and for just the right amount of time. I just got back from Japan a couple of days ago and miss it like crazy already. Near the end of this vid, there's a shot of you walking through Oazu in Marunouchi. I stayed in the hotel attached to it.
I was there with my brother in Nov 2018! Glad you experienced the tough Nokogiri Yama! My knees were shaking after all the brutal stairs. I love your shows & thanks for everything you do!! Love
The music is so awesome!!!! And that gold fish and how careful your friend is. All in a video. What else do we expect in a video?
A good Ol’ “RockStar” and a Salmon Musubi gets the day a rollin!!!! Great segment fella’s. Your Boy Kekoa🌺🏝🌺💪🏽
I hiked around there last year, what a great place. Make sure you check out mt Misen next time. More Japan video please, Ill join you on next Japan hike.. Thanks from Hawaii.
That's a big Buddha :) great job showing some amazing carvings...the sunset was beautiful and your music was incredible
Wow...Japan is so beautiful. I really like your friend, Daryl. He makes a perfect addition to AA!
Fantastic adventure - the editing and music are so well done! Great job.
Another place I highly recommend hiking is Isle Royale in Lake Superior. Like this trip, getting there is half the adventure - requires a ferry or float plane ride. You would love it.
Nice edit! Didn’t know u had ur own channel. I subbed!
The fast staccato strings @ 5:40...perfect track for that - guessing this was the Fabian Tell stuff? And the combination of cut-marks and moss/vegetation growth on those quarry walls makes it look more like the walls of an epic castle or some ancient structure. Super cool!
Oh, I missed this place when I lived in Tokyo. Well, now I know what to do when I visit again. Fantastic video! Look at those shots from the sea and stone cliffs!
Great Soundtracks ! Liked the hawks on the ferry boat... Hyaku Shaku Kannon a real trip. Nice friends! The cats very mellow. A great night off viewing Thank you.
Darrell seems like a regular member of adventure archives. Thanks for sharing.
You have an awesome friend!
Dude.......if you ever thought of planning a hiking tour of Japan, I'd love to go! sign me up!
Thank you beutiful sites, i used to love hiking. Thank you for shering your video from Michelle in australia
Oh man, I've been thinking about doing this mountain forever but it seems so short and so out of the way from where I'm usually at. Now though I think I'm convinced, seems there's a lot of really cool stuff to see!
Kudos to the temple music.
Oh man, the Forest Temple theme...brings back memories.
