- While on vacation in the Outer Banks in North Carolina, my son and I put a GoPro in a crab trap so that we could take a look at all of the fish that we weren't catching. What showed up on the video was pretty interesting. No fish or crabs were harmed in the filming of this video. The puffer fish in the video DID NOT DIE. Puffer fish inflate themselves with air when they feel threatened to avoid being eaten. As soon as they release the air they can swim normally.

That puffer has got to be the most beautiful puffer fish I have ever seen.
Also really love the crab part too. You can really see all the emotions and some personality in these creatures.

I'm not a marine biologist or anything - but I didn't know we had puffer fish this far North... I thought they were more of a Gulf of Mexico or tropical waters type of fish. It was crazy seeing those fish clear out as it arrived.

for those who think they killed the fish, it wasn't floating because it was dead it was floating because it was inflated because it's a puffer fish.
when fish first die they sink to the bottom not float.the puffer is most likely floating because it inhaled some air.
They actually inhale the water. Thats why they're sort of heavy if you pick it up
