    Watching the bronze medal bout was nerve wracking...just terrifying. We were all cheering for Ukraine. During the last bout watching Redli land touch after touch--he is an incredible fencer. Then, while Hungary had a eight point lead, Nishikin realized his mistakes and fought back, shrinking the point gap to just one touch...after a disappointing start, truly one of the greatest bouts in Olympic history. Bravo.

    Can someone explain to me how fencing works, like the rules and that. And all 3 sabre types because i just watched the sabre one and they were fast and this is slower. Idk why but im actually enjoying watching it

    • @bat_gamer_2254
      @bat_gamer_2254 Před 4 lety +21

      The main difference between epee and sabre is that sabre has a thing called "right of way" or priority whereas epee doesn't. This means that in sabre when two opponents attack ar similar times, the one with priority gets the point. One of the ways to get priority in sabre is to lunge into your attack to make it look more aggressive and they usually get the point. another reason is that in epee, you can only poke your opponent but in sabre, you can slash your opponent with the side of the blade so it is easier to hit opponents which makes defending difficult so in sabre, both players go for the attack and the round ends quicker.

    • @valjean76
      @valjean76 Před 4 lety +14

      Epee = whole body is legal target, no right of way, first to hit gets point (there's like a small period where both can strike each other), point of sword only
      Sabre = waste up is legal target including arms and wrists, right of way means the first to initiate an attack has right of way until a defense is made or the attack missed, side of weapon or tip are legal to strike with.
      Foil = torso only is legal target, no legs no arms. Right of way is in effect, point only to strike.

      @@valjean76 epee is the most interesting for me, since the player is more defensive and just focus to get point instead of to get priority. This make the fight is longer, instead of the quick fight of sabre or foil that ends with both player cheering thinking that they got the point

Si sigues intentando afirmar la supuesta ridiculez de este deporte, argumenta el porqué de la cuestión, no lo lances al aire como si se pudieran adivinar los motivos de dicha crítica.

      For centuries, there has been famous fencers born in the French West Indies: Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799) has been a celebrity in Paris at the end of the XVIII th century, directing his own fencing school.
      If you are one of those “typically French-bashing” Americans, jealous of our French athletes born in the French West-Indies, I trust that - by the same token - you won’t cheer for Athing Mu at the forthcoming (2021) Tokyo Olympics: she is a very talented American national, born in Trenton (NJ), but her parents immigrated to the US two years before her birth and she is entirely of Somalian ascendancy!…
