    I find otzi to be one of the most fascinating finds in modern times. He was truly a highly educated man for his times. I find myself often wondering what important mission he was chosen to undertake where it left him stranded onto that mountain. Great work using rudimentary tools.

      Thanks for watching. I completely agree with you. It's realy fantastic that we have such a well preserved find from such ancient times. I wonder what a huge amount of iteresting things is hidden from us in ices.

    O_o bending it over while its still a sapling stuck in the ground?!? Genius. I had never thought of it. Seeing it once was immediate: "oh thats such a better way!". Espically without modern workshops with vice grips. You are using the root system as the far better anchor than squeezing it in your legs or something.

    • @lefthandedherman8702
      @lefthandedherman8702  Před rokem +4

      I found this method once because of lack of tools and now I prefere it to others. It is affordable in any conditions and without any special tool.

    • @wayfinderali
      @wayfinderali Před rokem +2

      It didn’t work for me. I tried a wide variety of tree species at different ages, all of them snapped. Then I tried saplings heated over a fire before bending ,they all snapped that way too. I think it may be the wrong time of year where I am to try this.

    • @lefthandedherman8702
      @lefthandedherman8702  Před rokem +2

      @@wayfinderali I feel your pain. I tried to do it few times and found out that season is important. I made first attempts in winter and totaly failed. Spring and early summer are the best cause trees have a lot of sap these time and it much easier to bend them then.

    • @lefthandedherman8702
      @lefthandedherman8702  Před rokem +2

      @@wayfinderali also its important to make sure that you apply tension correctly. Usually I try to pull a stick during the bending rather than push thats why it's better to do it when tree isn't cut off the roots

    You should demonstrate proper use of a draw knife turn it over it will actually give you control of the cut by using the heal and toe of the grind

      I used to work both ways, but I like this one more. May be it is not the quiet traditional and correct way, however it is more convenient for me. May be that's because my other draw knifes have convax blades and I used to kontrol my blade's angle only with moves of the hands.
      But, anyway, thank you for your remark, advices from more skilled crafters are very usefull for me.
