Mob Psycho 100 is one of my all time favorite anime. Out of all the things this show does well, the characters themselves are some of my favorites. So today I figured I'd make a video focusing on my favorite character, Mob. Also So hyped for Mob Psycho 100 season 2!!! Enjoy!

I feel bad for people who choose not to watch Mob Psycho 100 because they don't like the unique art style or dropped it because it's not a copy of One Punch Man. One has blessed us.
The thing is, the artstyle is a reflection of the themes of the show;Someone who doesn't like it just for being out of the ordinary and not flashy/pretty would never grasp (or rather choose not to) the real message of Mob as a whole
Amy Duong at first I saw the art style for the cover and I didn't like it but after watching the first episode I was HOOKED
ElephantsLover well people have different tastes but I just didn't like the cover art but I like the rest
nope
Amy Duong i mean not everyone is gonna like it
glad that the body improvement club has still such a major role in the second season
It does? Damn, now I'm even more hyped for this season.
The body improvement club was what kind of got me into Mob. It was the highlight in season one for me. Well, right after Reigen, that is.
Just such a couple of wholesome dudes with a healthy ambition ready to help and inspire others.
And Mob's attitude towards them just sums up the core theme of the whole series.
Yeah so far I can tell season 2 is focused more about his character development than his emotional problem
Didnt watch 2nd season yet. But i so love body improvment club. They are not just jerks, they respect tension of mob and even try to help him in danger. They have own tension in its pretty honorable
I felt so bad when mob used his powers to impress the girl in the first episode. but maybe it was because he just wanted to help her?
@@therooster72 He never meant to impress her. To him, that was nothing. He was simply doing an act he was capable of, in order to help regain something important to her. Showing her that what she believes in is not meaningless drivel that is worthy of being ripped. Imagine, imagine for a second how she would feel when she finds out he has psychic powers, but didn't help her?
It shows his growth. He simply did it to help her, not to impress her. The difference he has made is hugely influential
The body improvement club members are so wholesome towards mob. Constantly supporting him and knowing he’s not at their level yet.
they're one of my favorite parts of the show
Ethan R the thing is, they know he’s more powerful than them because they know he has powers, but they still treat him as a student or underling, not in a bad way, but they show superiority knowing his strength, which I really like about them.
Slapfacegamer do they actually know?
P E A C E didn’t they see him use his powers in season 1? Also, they mentioned that mob should stand up for himself and that he could beat those guys up if he wanted. So if I remember correctly they do know.
Slapfacegamer as far as I know they’ve never seen him actually use them, but I do remember that quote
Mob is an awesome character, but I'd say Reigen is my favourite. Despite being a bit of a con artist he does genuinely care about Mob, and he does have charisma.
Being able to walk into the villain's lair and convince most of the henchmen to just pack it in and be good to people is one heck of a talent.
*a bit* of a con artist?
(I don't think he's a bit, he is a con artist)
Maxed out Charisma stat
Reigen has maxed charisma stats and a -20 karma
No not -20 he has a karma of 30
He's the reason Mob didn't go on the dark side too. "Psychic powers are just another characteristic, it doesn't make you less human. You have to accept it as part of your life. Just become a good person" 👏😭
Best example of how simplicity can be so much better than over the top design. Mob best boi!
NO TERU NOBODY CHANGES THAT
NO RITSU
it's reigen you can't change my mind
@@michiko587 Reigen is best con artist. Mob is best boi,Ritsu is best brother and Teru is best wig wearer
mob is best boy but reigen is best husbando
The body improvement club are the best buddies in all recent anime
total bros
I love them with my whole heart
i love that they're so supportive of mob despite them seeming like they were gonna be bullies when they were first introduced
I really wish I have those kind of people like the improvement club to support me.
I’ve been blessed with Mob’s adorable face.
God, he's adorable
Cannot agree with both of you enough. He's so precious inside and out 😌
It's funny, because in the webcomic, Mob has a much sharper face. In the anime, he's quite soft and makes (unintentionally) cute expressions more often, but in the manga, it's like he almost has a glare.
My favourite anime cinnamon roll
I thought this video was gonna be "look at this boy. He's wonderful and shaped like a friend" but this was actually a good and clever analysis!
I agree, but now I want a video like that.
He is though! Look at him! 10/10 a boy I wanna hug!
But also look at this boy. He’s wonderful and shaped like a friend.
@@cowtitties9785 you're absolutely right
He is very friend shaped
We love Mob
I think that mob and ritsu parents did a great job raising them, because they are both teenager boys and yet they are not into that phase of rebellion, they are kind and respectifull boys who work hard to be their best selfs.
@LacticAcid Ritsu had a semi rebel phase, but he only needed the love of his brother to return to be a kind and caring boy, and he clearly do his best in everything he does.
@LacticAcid He got everything settled with how he sees his own worth and his relationship with Shigeo in S1, he had his rough days but he was able to come back as a better person.
I think framing it as "mob trying to be special in a different way" is a liiittle off the mark
I'd say something closer to the Point would be that _nobody_ is inherently special or better than anyone else, what matters isn't how strong you are it's what you choose to do, or more specifically choosing to be a good person
mob working to get stronger isn't just supposed to be him trying to be special, it's about trying to improve himself to be a better person !
Yeah I agree, Mob is not trying to become "special", since he considers himself just as special as anyone else. Mob simply wants to improve in the areas he's bad at. Believing that some people are more special than others has a negative side, such as when Mob's brother is jealous of Mob's "special" power. He did not acknowledge his own strengths or his brother's weaknesses and just saw Mob as completely superior to him.
@@TruffleSeeker54
yeah exactly ! obsession with being "special" is pretty squarely labeled as a Bad thing in mob's narrative
The perfect character for real
Episode 1 of season 2 left me so hyped...
You forgot to say
“FIRST!”
Zedukel Starstryker dang you right
First episode got me in my feelings at the end tbh.
smooth.
I really like how it shows Mob's charachter growth over the first season
I've been around the block a few times when it comes to anime. I've seen my fair share of characters specifically designed to look cute.
But Shigeo Kageyama is easily the single most _adorable_ character I have ever seen.
Yes, yes he is!
Awesome but i think you could’ve said something about how even his brother ritsu has the look of anime protagonist and his struggle about his not problems make him feel less special.
Actually now that I think about it you could probably do a whole video just about them throughout the first season.
Ritsu is an edgy mc archetype, Teru is the isekai/harem mc stereotype
Also when mob explodes he gets the edgy anime boy haircut
@@ruby-tv9sy it runs in the family.
I might one day. I just didn't want to focus too much on anyone else other than mob
I generally don't care for anime at all. But Mob Psycho 100 is too damn good for me to ignore.
Fun fact: The guy at the far left at 2:31 is reading a one punch man manga
Mob was reading one punch man too in ep 2 i guess?
One of my favorite things about Mob's visual design is that you could very easily lose him in crowd shots if you aren't paying attention. He's literally nicknamed after the term "mob character", basically a background character, and was designed to look unremarkable
Mob is very relatable and him having a well written character arc is one of the reasons why MP100 appeals to me far more than OPM ever did. He's the overpowered protagonist done right tbh.
I love both for different reasons.
Mob is trying to grow through interacting with the people of the world. He's taken Reigen's teachings to heart and is absolutely incredible seeing him grow in subtle ways. It's not the "I changed my haircut therefore I've been developed" type.
Saitama on the other hand hasn't developed since the start. He's the same since episode 1 but his overwhelming power; more importantly, his down to Earth personality helps those around him grow and develop.
ONE is a true genius and I greatly respect him. Any inspiring comic should definitely read or watch his works.
@@loxul2239 Actually... Saitama has his own problems and kinda was stressed about the fact that he is the most powerful being alive. It is in the Manga and shows another interesting side of him.
@@doppelsotria4620 Yes, I read the manga as well and I love it!
While he has his character moments especially recently with King's segments and Garou's small encounters, he's still essentially the same person from episode 1. He's still looking for his humanity that he lost from the overwhelming strength. I hope ONE continues to develop this story one day. Because I really want to see Blast!
@@loxul2239 Well I don't even think we're going to see blast so soon. It still will take a few years. We still have to finish the current arc (which isn't the best since they are the same as normal power up battles), but I think Saitama will go through even greater development.
That opening tho. Ive literally watched it everyday since the first episode aired, not only is the music amazing but the animation is godly.
Then you'll love season 2's opening. It's just as good, and in my opinion, even a little better.
All of my friends are weebs and don't like this anime... They never actually watched it.
some of my weeb friends legit think that Mob psycho AND Jojo, every part, looks like cheap garbage. i was so salty when i heard it xD
@@wilddustdkv1755 same. Also with my hero academia
Let me guess, they like SAO
Guessing they think there is a 'right way' anime should look.
Force them to watch it and they will change their tune.
I knew someone who thought the same.
I had a friend who thought it was shit for the first episode but I egged him on (cos every anime I've recommended him he likes) and he loved it
I can't even describe how incredibly good Mob Psycho is.
1:22 Wait, wait, wait. Who is "Shingo"? You fool, how dare you say his name incorrectly.
Thanks, what I came to the comments for. Self validation.
oh i thought i was the only one who heard him say like shingeo kageyama
She-gey-O
Muda Muda Bastard like dub reigen said: *“YOU F O O L S!!!”*
hahaha.. i thought im the only one heard..
mob is just a good little boy
Yes!! he’s boy!,
Mob is my favourite character that ONE has ever made
Mumen rider is a close second. Actually it's hard to choose between the both as I really like both of them equally
Why do adorable things have to suffer?
Mob deserves to be happy.
I think all good people deserve to be happy but it usually takes hard work to achieve
Once in a while, there’s an anime that comes out with a new unique idea that strays from the norm. I wait patiently and excitingly for those animes and grieve for when they have completed. Here’s to Mob Psycho II for a unique free style anime
Mob’s theme is self acceptance
Not entirely. Self acceptance is just a step towards self improvement. Mob doesn't struggle with accepting himself, he struggles with being accepted by others. He's becoming a better person because he wants to be able to connect with others. Not so that he can be content with himself.
@@NitroNinja324 U right
No, I think op is right. Mob does struggle with accepting himself. It's made clear as early as in ep 3 that he views himself as terrible. Accepting his emotions and learning to live with how different he is than everyone else is also a part of his story, not just self improvement. Because, in the end, Mob decides to improve himself so that he could be proud of himself instead of getting validation from others. Yes, he wants other's acceptance, but he's already got a good family and friends who love him. All he needs is to start feeling deserving of that love.
@@pearlyp9898 Perhaps.
@@cskyla1844 Self-acceptance was more of a Ristu thing with his inferiority complex
i watched the first season a couple of weeks ago because i saw a youtube video highlighting the new animes coming in 2019, and mob psycho 100 season 2 came, then I was interested because i love psychic powers, etc. I went on crunchyroll and watched the first episode. Literally became a fangirl after that... this anime is a masterpiece
It's honestly my favorite anime. Everything about it speaks to me and my own personal goals and struggles. I just love how it can stay lighthearted while still taking on some serious topics and questions.
There is soooo much character development in the first episode of season two it felt so incredibly satisfying.
I'm a little disappointed. I'm a huge fan of videos that analyse the design choices, and the meaning behind popular media. I just feel like there was a whole lot more that could have been said, even specifically about Mob. I understand that you rushed to get this out in time for Season 2, but I'd suggest revisiting this when you have more time. There are a lot more points to be made
precious boy. Pure boy.
Mob’s character design makes him look like a background character and it just fits with his nickname’s meaning, really is some good shit.
I was actually thinking of watching this anime, now I definitely will!!
Its totally worth it!
Just... DO IT!
It's a emotional rollercoaster ride :'l
Fun trivia: Mob is a reference to mob character, which is a term that means a generic NPC.
the body improvement club is such a wonderful symbol of how real friends help you do better and cheer you on
Mob's character arc throughout the manga is amazing and I can't wait to see it all animated
THANK YOU HE IS MY SON I AM VERY PROUD OF HIM THANKS
I agree 1000000% Mob is probably my favourite anime boy, he’s so good and isn’t an irritating protagonist
How to beat someone good at “spot the protagonist”.
Shingoh Kagyama is also my favourite character in the show.
haha who the hell is that.
@@mylastmistake 1:21
I think mob’s simple character design, along with most recurring main characters, is (also) because they had to be drawn a lot for the comic
I think this video is pretty good overall, but most of it is only explaining the story. You only touched the character design aspect after 5 minutes mark.
Maybe consider to choose better title for the next video?
but people will still say Mob just looks like Saitama with hair lol
Well, they're not wrong.
This is such an awesome channel, thankyou for making it! This encapsulated all of my thoughts and theories of mob psycho 100
it's not just mob's unassuming looks that are the best, it's the in-depth self-evaluations he always goes through after he loses control. he thinks about his family, his friends, himself--whatever he does affects his life in a complicated way, and he learns that. throughout the anime, i realized that he doesn't just want to improve his body, he also wants to improve his mind. and that's deep
One of the best anime channel I stumble upon on! I subscribed so fast. Keep on making videos man🤙🏻
"Mob" Someone unimportant, a person in the crowd
All I can ever fantasize about is
Shigeo vs Hinamatsuri
The ultimate esp battle role play.
Although considering both their personalities they would prob ignore each other lol
When you said " Coming out right now "
..
I flipped off my bed. Tbh, excited for OPM to get that second season too.
I love mob. He is cute! haha! nice!
You almost never talk about the design of mob...
I’ve been rewatching it in preparation for the rest of S2
I love it
I laughed so hard when I saw that one frame of Teru’s “cactus” hair
Is your avatar using puri puri prissioner's clothes?
*Clears throat* maybe...
@@ManimeMatt That's kinda hawt
Beautiful way to put it, had to subscribe for that
“VRV is available on basically all of your devices”
Yeah, they would be. If it wasn’t an America-only thing. Gods do I hate VRV.
Gods? What pantheon do you got going?
NitroNinja24 nothing in particular, I just find it more feasible that there’s multiple as opposed to one all-powerful.
@@alexanderbaldwin1298 Okay then. I disagree entirely, but you do you.
The Minecraft Guy is my favorite and his brother Playmobil...just wow.
This is my favourite video of yours, nice!
Found you at Anime Los Angeles.
the second season is amazing. despite having 3 episodes, mob has a really big development in his characters. the anime captures the scene and his character perfectly. i love it
I agree that mob joining the body improvement club does makes sense for his character but this was definitely done for a joke a very funny one at that. The episode sets up this stereotypical anime senecio making us believe that Mob will join the telepathy club and have a friend group that will follow him through his adventures again like stereotypical anime plots however the episode subverts our expectations of what mob will do and it’s hilarious.
aAHHH i love your videos!!
Mha: fight me with your full strength!
Mp100: don’t use your powers on other people
Mob is so determined to be better at running, it makes me want to start running, too xD
this is a lovely video and a fantastic series and i'm glad people appreciate mob so much, but i can't get over the way u said "shingo" instead of shigeo lol
Solid video!
Mob is the most likeable Overpowered Character....same with Saitama
awesome video! It be cool to see one on saitama, he’s one of my favorite characters in anime :)
Already watched the first episode of the second season and its looking to be good!
Great explanation.
Just found this channel. First video I saw. Earned a sub from me.
The art is gold
It’s sooooo good man
This was quite inspirational
a way to spot Mob in a...mob is by looking at the black hair, his hair is pure black whereas other character's black hair is usually blue-ish
I fell in love with this anime from the trailers
Awesome interpretation, I also find mob to be my favorite character. I think the fist opening also lays out a lot of the things going on in the show. "If everyone is not special, then you can be what you want to be" I find that message to give me a sense of peace, if people where born special then only a few would be lucky but mob shows that even if you have psychic powers it's not something that makes you distinct and even if he's the most powerful character (and adorably kind) he's still awkward af and kind of boring (to teenagers, who value talking and showing off more than anything)
Goddamn I love your vid‘s please keep it up
Thanks I appreciate that!
Best character of the show is reigan
He is amazing I have to admit. Hopefully if this video does well enough, I'll make one on him.
Agreed!! Reigen-shishou also the best (life) teacher!
Best character of fiction is reigen
Best character of fiction is reigen
Reigen is the best character in all of fiction
First video of yours I’ve ever seen, agreed with the whole thing and enjoyed it, but imagine my surprise when I get to minute 6:00 in the video and Jack Black is on my screen! 10/10
Auden Harris-Wylde igwm- p
D
I love mob psycho and the message that leaves. You are not better than anyone for how you are at you born but for the hard you work on being better. (srry if bad english)
My only issue with this video is that Mob isn't trying to make himself 'special,' all he wants to do is improve himself and become a better person through hard work - unlike the villains who believe that the world owes them because they are "special."
Mod childhood is 80% like my was lol. One of my favorite animes ever, whoever wrote the script, got inspired by something.
I. love. Mob. so. much!
Dont get me wrong. Mob psycho 100, might be my most favourite anime of all time. But in my opinion everybody is overlooking one simple fact. Mob has power, thus he can command authority. He changes Hanazawa's mind not the moment he ends up on the floor. But moment his "power" takes over his body and shoots Hanazawa into the skies. Same goes for Toichiro. He listens to mob only after mob beats him in a fight. No member of claw listened to anything Reigen said until he beat them with mobs powers. Without mobs power, none of these people would listen to anything he have to say.
Love how mob actually means background character
I think this show looks pretty cool; maybe if I have more time on my hands I'll check it out.
1:20 "shingo" lmao
Man said shingo kageyama
the members of the body improvement club are the nicest people in the show
Well done video dude. With this information in mind, the lyrics of the opening theme is a HUGE spoiler alert.
Honestly the body improvement club is just such a cool group of dudes
imagine mob with big spiky anime hair
Matt please watch Hanada Shounen Shi. It's is made by Madhouse and is very underrated.
that's one hell of a like / dislike ratio ! o.O
Well i enjoyed it so thx for your work ^^
The intro song is Blue Boi
i’ve had this in my Watch Later list for the last year and a half and only now did I realize that this video was not made by mother’s basement
ive long lost my interest of anime, but this and opm are the only anchors holding me to anime. friggn love the author one
We must love and protect the small child
i heard somewhere that mob means extra as in a movie extra. so there's that too
Video song is LAKEY INSPIRED - Blue Boi. Great track.
