Simple elegance. Yes. I've got more books than I can read, more garden than I can care for, more stuff that I can ever use over my life. I shop at second hand shops. Rarely buy new. Live at the poverty income line as do you. But I feel like one of the richest people on the planet most days. Money cannot buy happiness. We all know people who have acquired more STUFF than they can use over TEN lifetimes, yet they still are spinning the wheel. Why is this? It's a question worth some perusal. Breaking the addiction to money and to stuff is at the core of my personal freedom.

We live like this also. To simplify one's life and for us, to be debt free is the best way in the world to live. The Little stress, better health, more joy is the secret to long-lasting happiness. God bless!

Hi, yes when I first found your blog four or five years ago I think, the impression that I got was that you were a young rich kid with much wisdom and wonderful taste. Well I was right about the wisdom and taste at least. Little did I realise that the riches you have are the fruits of 12 years or more of dedication, patience and hard work. Consumerism impoverishes us and makes us needy slaves to the machine. Living well is not working all hours to buy and get into debt so we can have large piles of new stuff. Time is precious and we must take care how we choose to spend it. You have helped show what true wealth looks like. Thanks Collette.

Wise words, Collette. We should be involved in our own decision-making...that IS freedom.

What a beautiful little cottage you have there Colette and the cork floor was such a great choice. It's cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Canada is such a hard country to for getting into properties like yours land is so expensive and you can rarely find a small plot of land unless it's half way up a mountain side with no access during the winter months. No words to describe how beautiful your world is, congratulations you've earned every single bit of pleasure you derive from your surroundings. Blessing Colette.💞

I am most happy with seconds, hand me downs and used... And there is something about having to wait for something that instills a higher value of something in one's heart & mind once received. You've done wonders with what you have there....used, old, new or otherwise and that is what impresses me most. Not many can see the value in things you've gone and brought back to life. And The commitment and love that you put into it all just emanates light all around. Many Blessings.

Dear Colette , i too try to get by with less energy , but it is not easy . A solar system on the roof would be nice , but our roof is not designed for it . We are now 63 and 64 years old , it does not pay for us but always for Mother Nature . I have been waiting for new shoes for 2 years , until i found the right one . Only have 6 pairs . My ideas have to be fulfilled , not those of the sellers . I wear clothes until it is no longer possible . Your attitude to live and the implementation is just awesome and admirable . My choice is less is more . Thank you for your example , everyone can learn a lot from you . Best regards and many hugs for you , Jack and your loved ones from Conny Braun and cat Felix from Germany .

I really needed to hear this today. Of course, I'm sick with a cold and thus, a bit overwhelmed, but sometimes I focus on the lack of what we don't have, I.E. money to fix things in need of repair, instead of counting the blessings I already have. I appreciate your post today, thank you!

Agree 100%, coming from seven acres on the Beara, busy planting and clearing- hard work but so rewarding, all a matter of choices. Money and material things or life here outside.

A good friend of mine always says ''To do what makes your heart sing'' and I reckon you have done this with your beautiful little cottage. Living with nature rather than against it is so rewarding in more words that can be spoken of living a permaculture life.

You are so right - we all have choices. We have saved and done without for years to buy this little stone cottage and land. It is a fixer upper with lots of needed repairs but we love it more than any of the new houses we lived in over the years raising our children. We feel peace here. I too love thrift shops and growing our own food - the simple life makes us rich in so many ways. Thanks for all you do. I will be ordering your book soon - saving for it - a little each month. Your blogs and videos have given me such pleasure over the years. Thanks for all you do - you inspire so many! oxox

Very well said! I found your youtube channel yesterday and have only watched a couple of videos. I must say I would so love to live a life of such beauty close to nature as you do there. My partner and I are working towards something similar down here in Australia. We rent a tumble down cottage on a 700 acre cattle farm. We both have jobs and will hopefully be able to buy this place and create a permiculture lifestyle and eventually work less and survive on less money.

This is only the second video I've watched from Bealtaine Cottage, but I just love your cozy vibe. I've always loved living simply and my husband and I built a very rustic cabin where we raised our children here in northern Minnesota. Since being widowed almost four years ago I've tried to make my smaller dwellings snug and cheerful like your cottage. Eventually I want to have a very small (tiny?) home on my daughter's property. I plan to watch more of your videos and read your blog. I'm not into the Goddess thing, rather I worship the Father God, but I'm still very interested in your way of living. :) Thanks for all the time and effort your put into sharing.

It is very true. Life is a succession of choices we keep making. This is why it is so important to be conscious, to be living the present. To realise you actually just made a decision. Not to be too far in the futur worrying and sad from your past. Be in the present, see Life offering you options and waiting for you to take decisions. If you dont take a deliberate conscious decision, your subconscious will. And you will end up wondering what you are doing.

Your message was five years in the past and look what five years in the future has bought us. Many people are trying to live your lifestyle yet do not fully understand that this way of life is always a work in progress. Many people think of poverty as living in a run down place with trash all around. Actually the dollar amount is very subjected as you know Collette. Millionaires are probably more in debt than you.
