In this edition of The Pace Report Buster and Brian sit down and reflect on the life of the late Albert "Tootie" Heath. Buster hails from Camden, New Jersey, and got his formal training in Philadelphia as a musician. The Heath Brothers were from Philadelphia and each brother was very important in the world of jazz. Percy Heath was one of the co-founding members of the Modern Jazz Quartet. Jimmy Heath was a prolific composer and tenor saxophonist. "Tootie" was a well-respected drummer who came into Buster's life when playing at a club in Philly in the mid-1960s. The Heath Brothers had an important impact on Buster's career. Both he and Tootie recorded together while working with pianist Herbie Hancock.
Also, Buster discusses his role as a teacher and his take on how the next generation of musicians is moving music and education forward.
