Dan acts like the NFL forcing rookies to start is the most obvious and logical thing. As a Jets fan, he should realize it isn't always right.
Good QB's can start as rookies there are many examples i.e. CJ Stroud. Jet's just pick a bad player.

Cousins is a 2 year contract, and the Falcons may be without a first round pick next year if they get dinged for tampering. If they don't get a guy now, they're screwed.

Even with 4, we're not resigning him. And if the money is effectively all payed up after the 2 years, we can choose to move on. The tampering issue is a really good point I've been using, too.

I think the issue with what the Falcons did is they gave franchise Qb, lets-win-now, you're-our-guy money to a guy that they really see as a bridge qb Then they turned around and drafted in the top 10 a QB that could start now, but they will use him as a developmental QB. Makes them seem sloppy as hell. Not to mention the human side of this. Cousins HAD to be under the perception that he was the guy and they were gonna go as hard as possible on winning right now. This regime does feel a bit incompetent to me. We'll see

Bills NEED to take Cooper Dejean at 33. I think he’s the best CB in the draft and to get him in the second would fill be great value at a position of need.

What if the Atlanta Falcons selected Michael Penix so they could trade him to another team?
That could add to their decision. Several teams were interested so to have a piece they could potentially trade in the future makes sense for the long game.

You would be lucky if all you did was become Alex Smith. was thrown to the garbage chiefs goes 50-26 as a starter. 4 playoff appearances during his time. What we didn’t see is how he helped Mahomes polish the few things he needed. Goes to Washington helps them wins a division title.

Penix is 24 years old. Why would you draft a 24 year old to wait? Justin Fields was available and is 25 years old after having multiple years of experience. He was available for cheap and still has a lot of potential with no great injury history like Penix.
You could have gotten a QB for the future and still got a 1st round talent to help the team now.
The Falcons proved they aren't trying to win the Superbowl. They are just trying to be relevant. They just want to keep the stadium full. They could have done that with Fields.

It doesn't make sense in a vacuum, but if you look at the Falcons' history it makes perfect sense for Blank. We have drafted terribly at the edge rusher position in recent years. Yes, Vic and Takk were not touted to be what Turner and Verse are projected to be, but it's understandable that Blank was a bit spooked by the thought. Also: the histrionics are there for Blank wanting a left-handed QB named Micheal. They are not similar players, obviously, but I think Blank misses how much FUN the Bick years were and sees Penix as the ethereal successor to Vick. And we know he's going to sit for at least 2 years, but so what? The Falcons put themselves in hole after hole with restructuring/resigning Matt Ryan because there was no succession plan and no options. I think Blank is trying to split the difference of "win now" and "prepare for the future".
