It's awesome that you help your customers the way you do.
My training I've been advised, never run series between separate subs, only on the individual sub. The resistance from the wire in-between the subs has resistance that can cause issues, especially with dampening. And never run each coil directly to individual channels of the amp, especially if you aren't running a high end amp, as their can be a slight difference in the output between the individual channels, and definitely not a coil between separate amps. This can cause coil separation.

Think of a dual voice coil driver as effectively two separate drivers so + then - then + then - Doubles one coils resistance. Or + to + / - to - Half's one coils resistance. If you used two drivers with different resistances which could be done you should Add the two then multiply the two then devide the two totals.Happy Building

I seem to have found a dilemma in how to approach wiring what I've got on hand. (2) DVC 4 ohm subs and a 4 channel amp. To get the power required to drive the subs properly, I would have to bridge the channels but the amp is limited to 4 ohm in bridged mode. There doesn't seem to be any way to wire them up as just 4 ohm?
This problem will be slightly solved by the new 5 channel amp I ordered but again run into a problem where I won't be able to get a 2 ohm load from the (2) 4 ohm DVC subs. This is poor matching choices by me of course but was wondering if you can see any way to wire this how I need them to be? The amp I ordered is rated at 500w x1 @ 2 ohm on the sub channel (dyno tested) which matches my power on the subs. At 4 ohm, the sub channel only does 300w which is only 150w to each sub. That's not a lot.... Any suggestions other than buy different hardware?
Note: my subs are separated in truck boxes. Not ideal, I know.

question. I just bought 2 subs that are rated DVC 2 ohm. But'.. I had two other subwoofers rated at 4 ohms DVC.... now I know that the sub with DVC 2 ohm can be wired as a total of 4 ohms sub.
and the other DVC 4 ohm can run at either 2 ohms or 8 ohms.
    my question is.
can I use a 2 ohm DVC wired in series which is a total of 4 ohms.
plus a DVC 4 ohm wired in parallel which =2 ohms..
I know you can use a combination of parallel and series to end with a total of 6 ohms. with those specific subs. I don't know if I'm correct or not.
the question is? is it safe?

If u lower the ohm's then you add distortion. The Lower the ohm more distortion... If you wire your coils in series then you are turning those voice coils off.. if you wire them to 1 ohm you have to have alot of Watts to make any noise out that speaker. It's easier to move a subwoofer if voice coil is 8 ohms also it sounds alot better then a 1 ohm load or even 2 ohm load...a 4 ohm load sounds 100%the best. Your amp will run hot and struggle to power any subwoofer at 1 ohm or 2ohms and drain your battery only after two bass hits....
Your better off Getting 2 svc 8ohm subwoofers wire them in parallel to these Crappy Amps they make these days to a final 4ohms load on the amp you'll beat them all if you want more then Add a third svc 8 ohm subwoofer and so on. Try to stay around 4-6 ohms Also if you go down to 1ohm or 2ohms and are using class D amps you are going to have the most distortion of any stereo out their....classD amps puts off the most distortion of any amps. If you go down to 2ohms or 1ohm and use a class D amp it's gonna sound like one of the top 10 worst...

On the third piece of paper the first option do I Bridge it, or hook it up regular?

Bridge the 2 negative terminals together then do the same for the negative on your sub

I’m running one single massive 12in sub DVC4, running parallel. Running It bridged or regular makes my amp run hot

What rms is your amp and sub?

    • @adamsharp2848
      @adamsharp2848 Před 5 lety

      300 rms sub. 400x1 4ohms or 200x2 2ohm

If I read that right your amp is putting out 200 watts rms at 2 ohms and your sub is rated for 300?
