BLEW MY MIND 🤯
For the first time I've ever seen, an actress performs the title song from Cabaret as it should be: a Sally Bowles who has been unmoored from anything & everything good in her life, faced with a bleak future alone, unloved & painfully aware she will never be the star she hoped she would be. It's a nervous breakdown set to music & Amy Lennox gives a magnificent performance.
It's pretty much why Jessie Buckley walked away with the best actress award. She performed it exactly like that, as a breakdown set to music, and in doing so kind of re-set how the performance should be pitched for all actors playing the part going forward.

The Olivier Awards, and just all of West End Theatre, is far superior to Broadway and The Tony awards, in my opinion. And this award show is how ALL award shows should be. It doesn't try to alienate its core audience like the Oscars by cutting categories, nor does it try to appeal to a general audience by including pop culture celebs or influencers. It's a theatre show for theatre people. And I love that.
I couldn't agree more, I think anything that isn't American is better. The classy style of Olivier awards and just west end in general is far superior

If you want to compare the Oliviers to an American awards show the Tonys would be better fitting. They're usually more entertaining than the oscars
@@thebeatricehorseman exactly. I’d agree the Oliviers are much better than the Oscar’s but I think the Oliviers and Tony’s are about the same entertainment value with the Tony’s having maybe a slight edge in my book
