Speaking of mud and sinking. The very first video of yours that I saw was "The worst recovery of my career" about a year or so ago. Great efficiency on that one. made me want to watch more.
Jeffery Mitchell you hit the mark. I did the very same thing. Came across an rental excavator which was buried in mud up to the cab. Chris built a wooden mat road from the street to the buried machine out in the middle of a catch basin. Chris first blocked up the water from coming in on him and proceeded to remove enough mud from around the rental to allow it to be pulled out of its muddy grave. Well done Chris. I, also, have been a fan ever since.
This video brings a whole new dimension to the term “muck raking.” What an amazing, tedious process you have regarding this pond project. I cannot imagine how you will ever eliminate a pond full of mud. Please stay safe out there. Wishing you and your team a great week. Cheers
I don't think the camera transfers the reality of the situation as easily or clearly as you might perceive in person. So if you watch other videos most people not already familiar will not see the differences. But I really like hearing the thought process behind the decisions he makes. You only get that through experience or someone with experience willing to share them.
All I know is that if that were me out there in that mud you are in, I would be the guy you would have to come and dig the excavator out that would be buried to the doors and listing to one side about like the one you rescued a few years back when I first started watching you, that was epic in my book of mission impossible. Dumping the mud reminds me of cleaning out the dairy barn and hauling it out to the pit. It even pous out of the dump and flows like it. Hope it doesn't smell like it.
It boggles the mind to know just how many cubic yards of muck that you moved. The dexterity of using the boom and mat to keep it all in one sock. Bravo Zulu.

Every push was a bit of fresh mud as wall👍 Where as you or on cohesionless ground that has instant liquefaction under movement of the meterial👌 but watching "" flowout the A90D you would snorkle and wetsuit😂😂 reminds me of cows relieving themselves for the flowers😂😂👌 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon👍👋

The problem is that there will be volunteer plants that come with the soil. I used my pond spoils to level some of the yard and I ended up with cattails popping up in the lawn.
My thought is that if it'll drain out (without tile in it) the owner would effectively have a river bottom on high ground. I'm not familiar with that mud/fines and equating it to the type(s) around here, NOT that that is what you're doing/saying, would only prove my lack of accepting "YMMV" (Your Mileage May Vary). Learning of and about those verities and how others deal with it/them is what's interesting. More like a pond bottom, I guess, assuming that there's a difference in what falls out of suspension and is left behind. It'd be interesting to hear Charlie's thoughts on incorporating it into the existing soil even though I'm sure the cost:benefit would in no way pencil out. Yeah, thinking is fun!
Love it. Seems like raking the mud with the mat works really well, that's a lot of material to move in one pass! I just can't get over how the really wet stuff moves sometimes, I'll be watching the video and I'll say "Eeeeerrrrg, oh man what a mess" out loud to myself. Keep up the good work!

I'm taking a break today, yesterday I moved around .9 cu yards of muck by hand. Dug out by hand put in a .12 cu yard cart and dumped. 8 loads and lots more to go. Always a lot of fun. After watching this series, I now understand. Truly fascinating to watch you squeegee literal tons of mud at a time without getting yourself sunk to deep.

I live in Southern Maine and when they do work on the power lines, they will literally build highways out of swamp mats. The state is vary perticuler a out not disturbing the wetlands

It really does just liquify as you go. Probably mopping up the water in addition to the mixing action. Definitely wetter than when you start pulling a row! Sorry, just the little kid in me confirming lessons learned making mud pies as a kid 🤣😂🤣
It's hard to explain unless you have been or seen it happen. When I was operating a weal loader my boss told me to take it across a field of mud. I sed okay knowing what was going to happen. I got about 4 yards in and I'm in the cab looking straight at mud. Took them about 4 hours to get it out. The Wheels were about 8' tall ruffle. I could have opened the window ant tuch the mud. Fun times!!

We had a crappy "bmx" track as kids. After it rained it was good for one lap. Get barely any mud on your bike. Lap 2? You'd sink. A Dozer is not going to work. That's a LOT OF MUD! Great series, Chris!
Simplest way to explain it is get a bin that you can put 6-10 inches of sand in , fill it half that with water , wait for the water to settle to the bottom and the top layer to dry then place a heavyish object in the bucket and gently shake it , or just type in earth liquefaction here in CZcams and hundreds of cool videos will pop up explaining it in detail
Chris well done videos. I do have a question about the sequence of events moving mud out of a pond like you have in this video. Instead of starting out in the middle of the mud and transferring several times, could the project be started where the truck is loaded. Start loading out mud from the beginning. As you work your way into the pond interior the truck keeps backing up further each time. From what you have said, the more you ride on the bottom the mushier it gets. But if wooden mats could be laid down for the truck to ride on, would this prevent the truck from getting directly on the pond bottom? There's surely a reason this wouldn't work or you would have been doing it. I have always tried to find a better way to do something. Some people call it procrastination. To watch another person do a job proficiently and still looks for a better way to do it, is admirable. Thanks for taking us along.
Seeing the physical properties of this stuff ("like lava") I understand the concept of bronze-age communities who dumped their unsuccessful politicians in places like this to make sure they'd never return (yet they did, now in museums all over Europe).
I find it quite amusing that they had to put up a silt fence. I mean, you wouldn't want silt to run into the watercourse.....that you are removing silt from!🤣

When you have to level out the dumped mud , try dragging a couple of mats with the dozed. We use to pull a drag behonf a disk on new plowed sod gtround.. Try using the rake on front and let the drag fill in the holes. Just an idea to cover more ground on the first pass. We used a drag alot with a disk.
That last pull of mud back to the pot was a perfect example of how good or decent mud becomes slop by the time you get it moved to the removal location. Hey Chris, do you think it might be faster to use the dozer? Lol. JK.
conveyer might be faster but will cost $$ to go from pond to dump sight but have to wait 18 months for it to be shipped from the factory 2 too 3 weeks to put it together then the 3 or 4 days too clean it when done on the job then 3 weeks to take it apart to haul it , and may never get used again for 5 years .. then you got the dozer idea just fill the tracks with helium so it floats on the mud ,, LOL

De-mucking is alot simpler if you're filling the pond in. There's no super simple solution to dredging a pond that the owner wants to save.

Working in that mud takes its toll on all the moving parts , big job lots of clean up at the end of the day !

One thing for sure when you finish its going to look amazing.
The best I can describe it if you are in quicksand you are told the more you move around the more you sink as with chris driving over it is the same.

Chris those aren't mats they are Mud Squeegees. When the dump truck emptied it looked like flowing lava. You are the mud master. Have a great weekend.

I liked the clip of John dumping that load of mud. I still think it's funny how people don't understand how and why you do your job , I mean between You and John you have a year or decades doing what you do and some people won't take your word on how to cut costs, be efficient at your profession. Got that down to a science. Excellent job.
When you have to level out the dumped mud , try dragging a couple of mats with the dozed. We use to pull a drag behonf a disk on new plowed sod gtround.. Try using the rake on front and let the drag fill in the holes.
Just an idea to cover more ground on the first pass. We used a drag alot with a disk.
That last pull of mud back to the pot was a perfect example of how good or decent mud becomes slop by the time you get it moved to the removal location.

conveyer might be faster but will cost $$ to go from pond to dump sight but have to wait 18 months for it to be shipped from the factory 2 too 3 weeks to put it together then the 3 or 4 days too clean it when done on the job then 3 weeks to take it apart to haul it , and may never get used again for 5 years .. then you got the dozer idea just fill the tracks with helium so it floats on the mud ,, LOL
