KRAKEN SOLUTION HERE!!
Matt, there is a simple solution to the Kraken death shake problem. There is no need for strut spamming, or turning off auto-strut or SAS, warping, etc Notice, the problem only happens with complex ships or when ships are combined/docked. Two docked ships effectively create one complex ship. What they all have in common are multiple possible control points. The problem appears to be the result of confusion/competition between those control parts (command pods, probe cores, docking ports, etc.) as to whom is in control of the ship.
SOLUTION: Simply right click on ANY part with the option "Control from here", and assign control to that part. It doesn't matter which one you choose, and the Kraken goes away. It's just that simple.
I discovered this solution years ago, and have not lost a single ship to it since.
Good luck!
Thank you Good Samaritan. I have lost to many ships to the Kraken, but no more. On to the nest reason for rapid unscheduled deconstruction.
@@justsomedude4547 You are most welcome, my friend. Please spread the word. I have been trying to bring this simple method to Matt Lowne's attention for years, but apparently he doesn't bother reading comments. He still needlessly loses craft to this issue regularly. It's a shame. If you find ways to improve it, please let me know. So far it has been 100% effective.

I build really large stuff, but once it goes beyond some point I need "kerbal joint reinforcement".
It’s kind of cheaty but actually calms the kraken a lot! try it.
What is the kraken
@@christianletzerich6523 a glitch that causes the big crafts in the game to be destroyed without reason.
Like this man so Matt can see!
Christian Letzerich The kraken is the animistic personification of ksp’s bugs and glitches. Like most games, KSP is held together with duct tape and elbow grease. It works fine for simpler craft, but, as things get more complicated, the game has a harder time keeping everything working properly. The more pieces you have interacting in a craft, the more places there are for something to go wrong. With massive craft, mods like Kerbal Joint Reinforcement help by making the craft much more rigid. This can prevent some of the more dangerous and destructive glitches and interactions.
@@TheArtikae that was unnecessary but ok
Even "gigantic" seems to be an understatement
I would think that gargantuan would be the most apt term. That could in itself be an understatement, though.

Matt, do you reckon it’s possible to create a single vessel which is just one large ring around a moon or something
oh hey look, its the red sparrows. hi!
Like Gilly or minimus?
It’s definitely possible however it would take lots of time and it might be tricky docking lots of parts together let alone one mistake and it all blows up
This was tested by someone a long time ago I'm pretty sure. May have been Scott Manley or Danny2462, I don't remember. Long story short, though: No.
The simplest reason is that the game puts the centre of a craft (and thus the point at which it calculates altitude) at the centre of mass or somewhere thereabouts. If you build a ring around a celestial body, the COM will be deep inside said body and the craft will likely explode. Realistically, though, you wouldn't be able to get that far before exceeding the physics range or encountering the Kraken, or a number of other issues.
what are you guys doing here lmao i'm in a red arrows crew on gta
Matt Lowne, I have the same problem with my massive Station here. I used physics range extender to increase the area in which the game precisely calculates physics from something like 100m to 300 or 400 and it solved most of the problems but this still happened but much less often.
I suggest you give it a try, but disable it once you stop using the craft
I was having problems with my super station and narrowed it down to the rotors in the gravity rings. My advice to Matt is to stop the rotors before he launches the refueler.
Try my Kraken fix I offered in my previous post. The monster is easy to slay, and it doesn't return.

Well he could use the Kraken attack as part of the cinematic.
Don't feel bad, seeing "even you" fail at something in ksp makes someone out there okay with failing a few times themselves.
The thing is, he didn't really fail, the game physics just couldn't handle it. His design was fine and technically, if the game wasn't so unstable when dealing with massive crafts, this would be completely possible. Hopefully ksp 2 improves on this.

Much love!

Something that occasionally helps keep my crafts from deciding to end themselves in that sort of situation is by turning off SAS, often (especially with probe cores) SAS makes craft tear themselves apart (for me at least)

thanks for this absolutely ludicrous video :)
There is a KSP-like free mobile game called Spaceflight Simulator. I highly recommend it as a “trainer” for KSP. It uses lots of the same physics as KSP, except it’s a 2D environment making it easier for the user, and it makes Kraken-like glitches very rare. I highly recommend it if you’re interested.

You literally pushed the game to its absolute limit. That is an amazing achievement man. Huzzah, and bravo.
THAT IS INSANITY!!! when you were building it i was very doubtful that it would go off the ground at all, then you literally got it in orbit. You are a true master.
This guy deserves much more subscribers! Matt your awsome!
Matt has built a massive space station and I can’t even remember to add radiators to mine. Awesome vid! Keep it up!
We appreciate your dehydrationated commitment to getting us good KSP videos.
I've had really good luck with the autostruts, but my rockets tend to be a bit more... sensible. Usually I just use it for things like SRBs for getting off the pad and it's great for keeping those from moving.
I've made stations this size before. I split the station into 3 smaller sections and assembled them in orbit. Also consider using solid rocket boosters as a structural part, like for the spokes of the rings. This will reduce part count.
steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1866851379
Same happened to me where the station imploded from "The kraken", I just wanted to test out the SOS probe but no my station wanted to go kablooey. You can add struts to the rings for support.
The way you said it just blowed uo.....absolutely had me in tears from laughing....Been a fan for multiple years on CZcams, love the vids...thank you
YES HE DID it I always wanted to seea base like that Epic
best one yet, this is exactly why I play kerbal space program, and this exactly is why I subscribe to this channel. If you haven't flown a giant exploding pile of struts all the way to Orbit at 0.08 fps, you haven't been playing the game properly
Sorry to hear about your difficulties Matt. Still a very enjoyable video!
Juste one word WOW
I found it tends to help if you make an extra stabilization ring attached to the existing rings. It helps reduce ring inclination and wobble
Love you matt!!
I love your videos man keep it up
so freaking epic!!
That absolute noodle of a space station is the coolest thing I've seen all week. 〰
Matt I ran into the same problems with my ring station. I was inspired by your previous designs a attached a ring station to a Star Trek space dock design. When I try to build ships modularly using the space dock the kraken attacks more frequently the modules I add. I was even trying to add fuel tank modules so the space station could also serve as a refueling station. But it can’t serve a practical purpose now cause of the kraken attacks. And the more I add to it, the worse my FPS gets. Watching you go through this Matt, I feel your pain.
I had one successful station where I used a large toroidal ring (mod) as a central anchor point for every other part. making the ring the one 'denominator' for movement/flexing etc
The Grian of KSP. Love the content!
I had to halt construction on my massive station for the same reasons, though I actually played through and reconfigured/ rescued kerbals. I even built a semi automated escape pod that would use SRBs to rocket away from the station in moments. Hoping KSP 2 fixes these issues
O M GOSH THAT SPACE STATION
Awesome!!!
Mods work! I’ve been waiting to see you with them lol.
A really enjoyable vid. I can't get a station a tenth this size off the ground, let alone into orbit. You are the Mozart of KSP. And yes, I'm sure this station will fly again. Oh, and good job in beating the Kraken to the end of the video!
I can’t believe you did it in a single launch. I know you did other ringed space stations in one launch but that is even larger!
Hi! I'm the guy who doesn't play KSP, but who enjoys watching you do it. I sub'd years ago, and hardly miss a video. My computer would never be able to run the game. It's still one of my favorite games, and you do more cool stuff with it than the other KSP 'tubers. Keep up the great work!
No need to give up hope! KSP is pretty easy to run, especially with non gigantic craft. It also goes on sale often for 15 dollars. It’s worth it to see your own engineering ideas and achievements!
i have never played ksp haha, but i love watching u'r videos, so relaxing ^^
Hey there dude.
This is a great channel, content and sense of humor.
For kraken attacks in space, I highly recommend raising your throttle gradually with shift instead of 0 -> 100% thrust.
This gives the structure time to react.
Best wishes.

Matt we bloody love you!! you hero !!!. You are a true NHS hero and the whole nation thanks you for what you do.
Great vid
When I was playing ksp (I don't now because life) I once did a build similar to this and i got tired of it constantly failing for no reason other than kraken so i broke it up into several different stages like the cor went up then the rest of the station then refueling was also the same result so the solution to said problem is really see how small big you can go with the kraken attacking (as well as restarting the game somewhat helped) and then just do several of those until its fully refueled plus if you want to I heard there is an actual refuel station under the bridge at KSC that if connected to it would allow you refuel the refueler and make one continuous mission otherwise its send up a refueler, refuel station, bring it back, recover vessel, go to wherever refueler is and rinse and repeat
