THE STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER - FIGHTING DOG TO CHAMPION?

  • Could this dog be the most courageous, athletic, intelligent and feisty dog on the planet? Described as pocket rockets who adore their owners and are as trainable as border collies. These once fighting dogs still have the gumption which meant they could endure any injury and do anything for their owner, but these days this passion and spirit is put to kinder more athletic purposes. Are they still dog aggressive? Well watch and find out....
We meet double Canicross champion Rachel Wilson and her Team Dark Heroes 'Marvel and Hulk', Jo-Ann Essex and her JavaWolf staffies and also Sporting with Staffords Marijke from the Netherlands who takes part in the Stafford Olympics. We witness agility, gymnastics, hanging from trees and canicross through one of the most beautiful parts of the UK, the Lake District.

We just lost our beautiful fawn staffie girl at almost 13 years old. The vet that had to put her to sleep was crying just as much as my wife and I, it was the absolute worst day. That gorgeous girl has left a massive hole in our lives, and although I’ve always loved bigger bullmastiff type breeds, I think we will only have staffies for the rest of our lives. I loved watching this episode, I saw so many of our girls characteristics in all these dogs, their personalities are just amazing!

I lost my Boxer who got ill really suddenly and although I love the breed, I don't think I could own another one, I don't want to replace my girl and they are not a very healthy breed anymore... but after a year we think it's time get another dog and we're leaning towards Staffies as although they are much smaller than what I'm used to, they seem to tick all of our boxes and just seem to have such beautiful characters.

After 15yrs with a staffy given to me past from home to home free of charge then I got him at 10mnth. I left him with my ex when he was 15.
I'll never want another staffy. The judgment factor when out from even bad dog owners. My staffy is good as gold its your dog being aggressive but you say its my dogs fault because he's a staffy and that's what they do isn't it. No. Your dog is doing it my dog is cowering behind me. True story.
I saw a big scary looking biker dude coverd in tattoos his staffy much bigger than mine. But he took one look at us and scooped up his staffy to carry it by us. His dog appeared to me just a relaxed as mine too. It was just his paranoia.
Then age 14 he watched my wifey meeting new guy with my dog and my dog getting cuddles too. Not my dog now. Dropped him like a fat chic who cheats.
I'll only accept a wolf type pup next if I ever do open my heart to anything else ever again lol. If I even have a heart left tbh.

They get better as they get older. Bond with nine year old Staffy is incredible now, not so much when she was a pup and adolescent. My temperament is not suited to younger dogs. She was looked after and always loved but I treasure her so much now more than I ever have and so does my family. She has improved with age exponentially. She is so well behaved on walks. She had a strong prey drive when she was a younger and was constantly incurring fines with council due to her behaviour. She never posed a risk to the family or to others dogs in the household, she has always been a loving dog but beyond our household we had to be careful. She was walked two to three hours per day and taken to a dog park for one hour per day to expend that extra energy.

The best breed ever. You can never get enough of them. These little rockets have a human soul in them. They are bored when they don't have anything to do but give them a task and they won't disappoint you. They may look small and really friendly but don't provoke them to a fight, cos they will do it with a passion to the very end. That is what those monsters take advantage of to do dog fights. If you get one for some time, you will never want any other breed. Got 3 of them and they are very aggressive towards unknown dogs but they can accept you in a day if you are introduced. When I had my son, my dog was really intrigued and won't allow anyone come near the baby. You don't know how strong they are until you get one. Mine would go on a walk for 4+ hrs under 37celcius.

I had a staffie/lab that I adopted from the rescue shelter I volunteered at. Elvis was an amazing defender and lovable family member. We had to put him down due to kidney problems etc due to his medications for his on going bad skin conditions that were not treatable and medications were the only way. He lived with us for 4years and still cry bucket loads thinking of him.

Absolutely love this breed especially when you get a true bloodline ect staffy! They're hilarious, smart, super athletic & with proper training, diet, exercise and a responsible owners/family make amazing dogs for competition, family ect. Have a female staffy as well as a male, plus a male/female American bully & a male boerboel.. the little female staffy runs the entire house LoL nothing is done, taken, eaten, played with ect unless she approves and when it's her nap time, play time, bathroom ect it's the same for rest of my fur babies LoL. Size definitely does not matter when it comes to these dogs, me my family & dog family really enjoy the breed.

@@carmenmartinez2882 I am so sorry, we lost our Pomeranian at the beginning of the pandemic. There’s always two kinds of people one that just cannot imagine getting another dog right away they need to let their hearts heal then there are people like me where I need a puppy immediately because it’s the only thing that makes my heart happy or I will continuously cry for months. We always have one big dog and one little dog well I shouldn’t say always this is our second Pomeranian and then we have a mix breed big dog. Our family has only had giant breeds my whole life so when I got our Pomeranian that was the first small dog in our family.

Simply the best breed. Had many. As long as they are socialised from young and well exercised they aren't aggressive. However we did have a rescue one who had been mistreated. No amount of training, exercise or visits to dog Psychologists helped. He would go for anything no matter the size and not let go. I had to put my hand in his mouth to release his bite multiple times. Amazing around people but a complete menace around other dogs. He died of a heart tumour aged 6 and although we were heartbroken it was a kind of relief for him and us. I rescued an 11 year old complete black Staffordshire from a rescue 4 years ago. She was the most well trained dog I've ever come across. How she ended up on the streets ill never know. I walked her off leash all the time as she never went further than 2 metres away, whenever another dog came up to her she just stood still and looked at me as if to say "not this palaver again" and just waited until I told her to walk on or the dog lost interest. She had zero interest in other dogs. Just amazing temperament. I only had her 2 years when she died of a tumour on her spleen. Our other am staff /ridge back mix which we had from a puppy outlived them all and died at 17. She was spoilt rotten. My mrs taught her the best thing you can teach a dog which is to look somewhere else. Great when your eating and she was eyeing up your food. 😂😂😂 We lost all 3 dogs within 12 months of each other and can't bring ourselves to get another. It's still too painful years later.

The boy was a big whimp who's only purpose in life was to play tug with you, he was super friendly and loved a cuddle pre workout. The girl was very motherly, fussed you when you werent feeling your best, loved playing fetch but would get involved if you are playing tug with the boy. Perfect companions between weight lifting sets or coffee on the couch with them. Always looked forward to seeing them, never heard a growl they are the best dogs.

Wow!! a breed enthusiast actually telling the truth, most people who own dogs capable of doing damage always push bad press & being misunderstood - I had a staff for 13.5 yrs and he was awesome - like the trainer says, they generally won't go looking for a fight if trained well, but it's amazing how many other dogs start stuff with them & they always finish the fight then get the blame - i adored my staffy, but once he'd been attacked once or twice, he wouldn't take nonsense from any dog -- best dogs in the world but you need to be able to read a staffy's body language, then you'll be fine.

I have one of the larger American versions of the Staffie. There are a TON of great things about them. They are clean, energetic, eager to learn and please. I love how they don't stink like a lot of dogs. I really like how the handler in the video has the commandeering tone with her dogs yet absolutely loves them. I have noticed that with Shmoo (my dog) that, like a lot of working breeds, if you are a lazy person or don't want to put the time into them, this is where they can go wrong. BUT...if you are there for them and are able to take command and gain the love and respect of your dog, it is really hard to find a better breed than a Staffie. As much as I prefer Labradors or Wolf Hybrids.....the Staffie is "da bomb" if you are willing to do your part.
