As a larger-than-life figure on piano, guitar and vocals, he is held in the highest esteem from Rio across Europe to here in France. His new album "AOR" is inspired by 70s soul and Steely Dan. Eve Jackson speaks to Ed Motta.

***** I got Motta's and Fagen's albums. I listened to them. None rip-off found, unless you consider influences a rip-off.
***** Yeah, I agree the influence is profound. In previous albums, there were profound influences different from Fagen. I see music creativity as a flow, you take it from your teachers and pass it to your students. So for me rip-off is only when you use the same chords and melody... but this could also be called quotes!
***** AOR is too much like Steely Dan, with the exception of the track Wild Flowers, which is very Ed Motta sounding, dark and groovy. I enjoyed it, I have both versions, in PT and EN, however it's not my favourite record by Ed. I do understand that it helped project his music out there due to the AOR trend, I appreciate that and think that's justice! You should try Chapter 9, Dwitza, Aystelum & Poptical. In my opinion, those are masterpieces and indeed very authentic and original sounding.

Infelizmente Brasil ainda não entendeu o que é verdadeira música. Triste é a mídia tv no Brasil não dar espaço pra esses cantores acima da média. Prevalece sertanejo, nem os ROCK brasileiro tem espaço. Lamentável.
Ele fala do estereotipo da praia que colocaram na entrevista e no clipe dele tem o mesmo estereotipo. Achei funny. :)

Ed motta said in his interview recently about why he recommend just brazilians with a excellent english to go to in his tour (Europe) and he said that is impossible brazilians immigrants go to another country and don't speak a basic english... So but he doesn't know in the world has a lot of brazilians just go to another country to work and give a good life for own family in brazil these people they doesn't born in each family like him. This is my case i live in new zealand I came to here to work and help my family in brazil, I dont have a good english but I learn more than my first day here. I dont like anymore ed motta after this case and all the shits that he said. He uncle he is the big singer in brazil, ed motta just has his name in the "word" because is uncle Tim maia.

scorpizis meu inglês nao eh perfeito nao falo muito mais jamais vou desmerecer quem fala menos que eu. Pra um cara fazer as criticas que ele fez nao pode cometer esses erros que voce apontou.
